Gingrich Says He'd Consider Santorum As VP:  NEW BERN -- During his trip to New Bern, Newt Gingrich said he would consider Rick Santorum, among others, as his vice presidential candidate. That comment came on the heels of Santorum's announcement that he's pulling out of the presidential race. Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich made a campaign stop Tuesday in New Bern. Gingrich stopped at the Pepsi Store first then had lunch at The Chelsea. It was $60 a plate to attend the speech and all of the proceeds went to the Craven County Republican Party. News Channel 12 was the first to ask Gingrich for his comment moments after Santorum announced he was suspending his race.

Gingrich campaigns in New Bern-- Newt Gingrich’s 2012 campaign gained visible momentum in New Bern on Tuesday as the third-ranking Republican presidential candidate received news of former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s decision to bow out of the race. Gingrich had spoken in Raleigh earlier and at a New Bern luncheon fundraiser for the Craven County Republican Party with remarks that indicated his efforts were less about winning the GOP nomination and more about keeping a strong conservative voice in the campaign to help shape the party platform.
