PRESS RELEASE:
February 9, 2014
A long-time Republican, Mattie Lawson has
just announced she will file to run for NC House District 6 to strengthen the
conservative base in the NC General Assembly. The district is currently
represented by a Democrat in a Republican led General Assembly causing the
district to struggle to achieve a voice.
The District consists of Dare County ,
Washington County, Hyde
County and the northern portion of Beaufort County .
A Dare
County home-owner for 11
years, Mattie Lawson is a principled activist known for working hard for common
sense, non-partisan conservative causes at the local, state and federal levels.
One of her passions is opposition to the over-regulation of the seafood
production industry that adversely affects the livelihoods of local seafood
producers and relegates consumers to sickly, uninspected seafood imported here
too often from third world countries. Another issue is the rising cost of
living that limits job growth and burdens young families. She was an early
proponent of stopping the Briggert-Waters Act of 2012 that greatly raises flood
insurance costs on coastal property owners and yet fails to reform the poorly
managed Federal Flood Insurance Program. She supports the Oregon Inlet
Waterways Commission and the Oregon Inlet Task Force as a concerned citizen and
occasionally as Senator Bill Cook’s representative.
Lawson ran for NC House District 6 in 2012. She won the
primary against two challengers, including a seasoned Democrat politician who
had just recently turned Republican to run in the race, Arthur Williams of Beaufort County . She won the run-off election,
also, but lost the General Election to insurance businessman Democrat Paul Tine
by a bit over 1% of the votes cast. In the General Election it is notable that
she won both hers and Tine’s home county, Dare, the most populous county of the
four county District. She won by a large margin in Beaufort County ,
the second most populous county. This race was characterized by the media as
the most carefully watched election in North
Carolina in 2012.
Lawson is the Vice-Chair for the Dare County Republican
Party. She is a voting member of the Republican Third Congressional District
and a voting member of the NC State Republican Party Executive Committee.
Lawson has extensive leadership experience with numerous committees. She leads
the OBX TEA Party. She has participated in taxpayer and TEA Party activities
across the country since 2009 when the TEA Party movement rebelled against
out-of-control spending and taxing by Washington ,
DC , bureaucrats.
Lawson retired from a corporate position with Raytheon as a
Principal Systems Engineer for the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency
(NGA) where she served as the Process Engineering Department Head. Her lean
processes and defect reduction skills as a Six Sigma expert serves as the basis
for the small business consulting service she operates out of her Kill Devils
Hills residence. Her college years were spent at Radford
University and Rollins
College at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida . She is married
with 3 children and 11 grandchildren. Her home church is Liberty Christian
Fellowship in Colington.
Lawson said she is confident her training and experience in
helping make organizations efficient and effective will be an asset when she
serves in the General Assembly.
It is vital that our law-abiding citizens stop being held
hostage to the whims of the anti-American federal administration. Together,
Lawson believes, we can help North
Carolina can RECLAIM THE DREAM. That dream is that America is the
greatest nation on earth because of the founding principles that served our
nation so well. She works constantly to help our nation return to its Founding
Principles of smaller government with lower taxes, less abusive regulations,
less intrusion into our private lives and stronger protections of our
liberties. We can create jobs and build the economy back to where it should be.
We can encourage a free market system with freedom of religion, the freedom to
defend ourselves and our private property and the freedom to pursue integrity
(what John Adams meant by "the pursuit of happiness").
