Carolina Rising Releases Statewide Robo-Call Alerting The Public
About Roy Cooper’s Power Grab
Cooper Abuses Power to Keep Power, Punish Opponents
(Raleigh)  Carolina Rising is today calling hundreds of thousands of North Carolina voters informing them of Roy Cooper’s abuse of power by using an ongoing State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) investigation to smear political opponents.
“Roy Cooper is the most political Attorney General in modern North Carolina politics,” said Carolina Rising President Dallas Woodhouse. “He is now playing politics with our SBI, to  damage his political opponents and to hold on to political power after overseeing a lousy crime  lab that put hundreds of criminal cases at risk.   “Cooper may be an ambitious politician but overseeing an incompetent crime lab puts us all at risk, and manipulating our top police agency to play politics, is just wrong and the voters need to know about it. “
After the SBI crime lab scandal and the outrageous appointing of Roy Cooper’s lobbyist, a person with no law enforcement experience to head the SBI, the General Assembly is considering moving the SBI to the Department of Public Safety, a move considered for years by Republicans and Democrats.
Cooper apparently released information about an investigation into a political donor who may have broken campaign finance laws.   Cooper’s staff seemed  leave the impression that some of Coopers political opponents may have done something wrong, although there is no apparent factual basis for that allegation and little likelihood under existing campaign finance law.

N.C. Attorney General Will Not Oppose ACLU Motion Expanding Case to Challenge State’s Marriage Amendment

THIS IS WHAT WE GET FOR LETTING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL SPOT GO UNCHALLENGED!

RALEIGH — A suit initially challenging the state's adoption laws is on the verge of becoming a full-fledged legal attack on North Carolina's one-man/one-woman definition of marriage, as Attorney General Roy Cooper's office has announced that it will not oppose a motion filed by the American Civil Liberties Union to expand the case.

Noelle Talley, a Department of Justice information officer, told the media late last week that because litigation was expected on both issues, combining them into one case would be more efficient.

But Tami Fitzgerald, chairwoman for Vote for Marriage NC, pointed out that the people of North Carolina passed the marriage amendment by 61 percent, and said "they deserve better from their Attorney General."

"The case has been before the judge now for nine months on a motion to dismiss," Fitzgerald said. "Roy Cooper is making a misguided decision for the people of North Carolina."

She further explained that the constitutionality of the amendment is outside the scope of a lawsuit regarding adoption by gay couples.

NC attorney says local voter ID laws have problems

Our attorney general is full of crap!  You need ID to access social services, to see doctors in the Carolina East system, to pick up prescriptions at drug stores, to cash a check, to pick up a package at the post office.  My local computer shop requires photo ID to pick up your repaired computer!  I am sure you can think of even more!!!!!  The only reason to prevent voter photo ID -- is to perpetuate the voter fraud that North Carolina Democrats are know for!  Read more and comment please!  ~Lynn

RALEIGH, N.C. — Any effort by state legislators to make citizens show photo identification before voting by passing legislation that applies to some counties but not others likely would be unconstitutional, according to the top deputy of Attorney General Roy Cooper.

The legal opinion by Chief Deputy Attorney General Grayson Kelley addresses a potential way that lawmakers could attempt to get around Gov. Beverly Perdue's veto of a statewide photo ID bill in June that Republican lawmakers were unable to override in July. They haven't ruled out trying to override her veto again.

Bills that apply to local matters generally can't be vetoed by the governor. Over the past several weeks, commissioners in a few counties — such as Rowan, Davidson, Gaston and Craven — have requested such legislation, although GOP leaders in the General Assembly haven't acted on those requests.

From the liberal ‘Progressive Pulse’: We had this piece earlier today about the N.C. Attorney General’s office finding that an apparent political strategy to try to push voter identification rules through local bills in the legislature unconstitutional. Now, Gov. Bev Perdue has weighed in, and she too finds it unconstitutional. Perdue, the Democratic governor, vetoed the bill in June that the GOP-led legislature passed and would have required that voters show picture ID at the polls. Here’s a written statement, released this afternoon by Perdue’s press office:
