Krawiec sworn in as state senator

Winston-Salem Journal, by John Hinton, Friday, January 17, 2014.

Joyce Krawiec of Kernersville, R-Forsyth, was sworn in Friday to represent N.C. Senate District 31 in the General Assembly. She replaces Sen. Peter Brunstetter, R-Forsyth, who resigned in November to accept a job with Novant Health.

Lt. Gov. Dan Forest administered the oath of office to Krawiec in the old Senate chamber in the State Capitol in Raleigh. Republicans in Forsyth and Yadkin counties nominated Krawiec last week to fill the vacancy. Her term ends Dec. 31, 2014.

NC CAMPAIGN 2014

#NCSEN: NCGA helps Tesla, car firm’s lawyers give BIG to Thom Tillis Senate campaign

The Daily Haymaker, January 5, 2014

We’ve been doing a lot of campaign finance report reading lately.  We’ve found some interesting things about beer and movies on the Thom Tillis Committee’s financial reports.  Our latest find — some large donations from employees of a Massachusetts law firm — had us scratching our heads.

On June 27,  Massachusetts resident Jeanette Campbell, identified on Tillis campaign reports as an employee of the Campbell, Campbell, Edwards & Conroy law firm, gave Tillis $250.  On September 12, she gave $2350 to the North Carolina speaker’s senate campaign.  On September 30, it was reported that Ms. Campbell gave $2,600 to the Tillis campaign.

5 candidates in running as possible replacement for Brunstetter

Winston-Salem Journal, January 5, 2014

YADKINVILLE — In the maneuvering to replace former Republican state Sen. Pete Brunstetter, the Yadkin County GOP holds a kingmaker card.

The question, days before a group of about 140 Yadkin and Forsyth County Republicans will nominate the replacement, is how the Yadkin GOP members will play that card, if at all.
