NC Protests the Latest Showing of Big Labor's Push Into South

National Legal and Policy Center, by Paul Chesser, February 13, 2014

A Saturday march in Raleigh, NC, that consisted of participants from dozens of left-wing groups – many bused in from more than 30 states – marked a new level of effort by national organized labor to assert itself in the South.

The recognized leader of the demonstration is the president of the North Carolina chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Rev. William Barber (in photo, on right), who recently received national media attention for his remark that black conservatives – such as South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott – are “ventriloquists’ dummies” for the Tea Party. Barber last year conducted a series of “Moral Mondays” protests in the state capital against changes in state law that lowered taxes and limited the growth of government.

But unions have provided extra forces in opposition to the newly Republican-controlled state legislature and governorship. North Carolina, the most ardent right-to-work state in the nation, has become a top target for Big Labor, which has a stated goal to “Organize the South or Die.”

Moral Mondays on the Move!

The Blueprint NC Left is exporting their Alinskyite tactics to other states...

The American Spectator, by Paul Chesser, January 30, 2014

Last week a Reverend — who resides in the same category of “Reverends” as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson — impugned the intellectual integrity of Sen. Tim Scott, alleging that the South Carolina Republican is literally a mindless mouthpiece for the Tea Party.

Within the constricted worldview of Rev. Dr. (dual honors of dubious worth) William Barber II, leader of North Carolina’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, behaving conservative while black is an offense deserving of discredit. Hence his Martin Luther King Day remarks in Columbia, S.C. condemned “right-wing extremists,” with the Palmetto State’s replacement for Jim DeMint singled out for special denunciation.

“A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy…,” Barber told a crowd of about 300 loyalists at Zion Baptist Church. “The extreme right wing down here finds a black guy to be senator and claims he’s the first black senator since Reconstruction and then he goes to Washington, D.C., and articulates the agenda of the Tea Party.”

Immoral Mondays through Sundays

Robin Hood’s philosophy of “taking from the rich and giving to the poor” is alive and well, fostered by a government hell bent on taking what folks have legitimately made or earned and redistributing it as they see fit. The problem is in this scenario the concept of rich has bled over into the diminishing middle class who bothered to invest in Social Security so that they might have adequate funds when they retired; those who purchased health insurance without government support only to now face losing that which they have; those who believed in entrepreneurship enough to purchase stocks or start to fund industries vital to society’s welfare; or those who put in the time in jobs which allowed them to set aside monies for a retired future.

Present new age philosophy says work only if you make what you think you are worth via a livable wage not what the market bears; don’t bother to save for education or houses for the government will bail you out making your debts go away; and indulge your fantasies of self-oriented pleasure or decadence because others should be willing to come to your rescue.   We are fast moving away from a democratic republic based on individual responsibility with personal initiative and going warp speed in creating a time when everything is relative though not all that are relative are kin.

Moral Monday & McClatchy: Preachers in Court. (What’s this about F.I.S.T?)

The Daily Haymaker, October 28, 2013

For months, we’ve been subjected to stories from our state’s dwindling, money-bleeding mainstream media fawning over Big Bill Barber’s Traveling Circus & Freak Show.  We’ve been told that Moral Monday is simply a bunch of average-joe mainstream North Carolinians upset with those dastardly Republicans running the show in Raleigh.  Some of our reporting — as well as that by our friend Lady Liberty — has poked hole after hole in that ridiculous spin.

We were scanning a story on the McClatchy-Raleigh web site this weekend about Moral Monday-ers in court, when we stumbled across this gem:

Petition Angers Protesters - WLOS News13 - Top Stories

Updated: Monday, August 12 2013, 09:29 AM EDT

Some Mountain Moral Monday protesters were duped into signing a fake petition. It was all caught on video by the Buncombe County Young Republicans.

The group created a fake petition that asked people to support putting education spending back to 2009 levels; that is when democrats controlled the legislature and education spending was less then it is right now.

The BCYR says people voluntarily signed the petition and agreed to go on-camera doing so. The video was pulled from YouTube citing a privacy violation.  The BCYR has since reposted it. Watch the video here- http://vimeo.com/72047830

(ILL)MORAL MONDAY GOES ON THE ROAD!

 ==========================
NAACP, others seek sit-down with McCrory-- Liberal Laura Leslie amplifies (as if he needs it) Rev. Barber's phony call to 'sit down' with governor to discuss voter ID bill (or else)... The 'Pat McCrory Promise Trackers' at WRAL leave unchallenged Barber's lie that 80 percent of citizens think voter ID 'attacks' minorities...

RALEIGH, N.C. — The group behind the so-called "Moral Monday" protests has requested a meeting with Gov. Pat McCrory about the elections changes bill.
State NAACP President Rev. William Barber asked McCrory in a letter last Thursday to veto House Bill 589, the elections omnibus that includes voter identification requirements and host of other major changes to state voting and campaign laws.
"We understand you are presently considering the bill, to make what will be a historic decision to sign or veto it," Barber writes in the letter "As you know, we and perhaps 80 percent of North Carolina voters believe it to be one of the most restrictive and regressive attacks on minority, elderly and young people's voting rights seen in this nation since the end of Reconstruction and the implementation of Jim Crow at the turn

Protest packs Asheville

Moral Monday rally draws at least 5,000

ASHEVILLE — The Rev. William J. Barber II brought Moral Monday to the mountains, and the grass-roots political protest turned into one of the largest demonstrations here in recent memory.
Carrying signs, singing songs and cheering for speakers, thousands of protesters rallied downtown Monday for the first Moral Monday outside Raleigh, where Barber, president of the state chapter of the NAACP, has led 13 weeks of protests over Republican-backed legislation.
Asheville police Sgt. Dave Romick estimated well more than 5,000 people attended the rally, which crowded Roger McGuire Green in Pack Square Park in front of City Hall.
==========================
Moral Mondays have vacated the NC General Assembly grounds in search of a new venue to whine to and whine they did – or rather sing. Singing, I use that term loosely here, is what took up the bulk of the rally. Perhaps they were lacking in the speaker department. They did manage to dig up a gentleman named Bacilio Castro who spoke only Spanish and had to have his speech translated. Funny thing, I think I’ve seen him before at another event and he spoke English then.

‘Moral Mondays’ Getting Murkier

CIVITAS INSTITUTE

June 12, 2013

Let’s say you’re an ordinary citizen and you trespass on someone’s property. You come back the next day anyway. You get arrested again, and this time you’re charged with contempt. Wait – what’s that? You’re the Rev. William Barber? Never mind. Please, come inside.

The legal situation surrounding weekly protests at the Legislative Building in Raleigh is growing murkier. If you’ve been following the coverage of “Moral Mondays,” you may have heard the term “civil disobedience” being tossed around. It’s an evocative word: it hearkens to mind the courage of Henry David Thoreau, who willingly consigned himself to prison rather than support a war of aggression in Mexico. It summons images of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., braving the fire hoses and police dogs in Alabama. You might think that the protesters arrested these past weeks at “Moral Mondays” have been braving some of the same hardships.

Nope.

Protesters who are arrested do not spend any time in incarceration. Most of them are cuffed with plastic flexi-cuffs instead of metal handcuffs. They get supportive hugs from General Assembly police officers. The NAACP provides free lawyers to anyone arrested, and the protesters are home by midnight. Oh, and they get souvenirs, too.

Apparently some people in the criminal justice system think that this is still too onerous a process. Colin Willoughby, the Wake County District Attorney, told Civitas that he suggested to police that it “might be appropriate to issue citations” to demonstrators instead of arresting them. In other words, protesters could get a ticket and a fine instead of being charged with a misdemeanor. And Sam Higdon, the assistant director of the Wake County detention center, told us that it was recently “agreed that the CCBI [City-County Bureau of Identification] would not process them.” This, despite the fact that the CCBI has processed all of the demonstrators previously arrested. According to General Assembly Police Chief Jeff Weaver: “The CCBI director, Sam Pennica, stated his budget would not allow him to have additional personnel on site for any more of these arrests.”

Now that the CCBI is out of the loop, arrest reports are no longer readily accessible to the public through the online Wake County Police to Citizen (P2C) portal. Farewell, transparency.

But hey, at least we can take comfort in the fact that the police and District Attorney’s Office are enforcing the law. Or are they?
