NC Protests the Latest Showing of Big Labor's Push Into South

National Legal and Policy Center, by Paul Chesser, February 13, 2014

Saturday march in Raleigh, NC, that consisted of participants from dozens of left-wing groups – many bused in from more than 30 states – marked a new level of effort by national organized labor to assert itself in the South.

The recognized leader of the demonstration is the president of the North Carolina chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Rev. William Barber (in photo, on right), who recently received national media attention for his remark that black conservatives – such as South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott – are “ventriloquists’ dummies” for the Tea Party. Barber last year conducted a series of “Moral Mondays” protests in the state capital against changes in state law that lowered taxes and limited the growth of government.

But unions have provided extra forces in opposition to the newly Republican-controlled state legislature and governorship. North Carolina, the most ardent right-to-work state in the nation, has become a top target for Big Labor, which has a stated goal to “Organize the South or Die.”

Daily Journal: A Conservative View of Moral Monday

By John Hood, February 10, 2014

RALEIGH — Any political movement that can turn out tens of thousands of protesters on a chilly morning in February must be deemed impressive.

To this conservative, the 2014 edition of Historic Thousands on Jones Street — an annual march initiated by the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP and now associated with the Moral Monday movement — was a remarkable feat of organization, logistics, and marketing. The NAACP did err in claiming that as many as 100,000 people participated in the march through downtown Raleigh. An estimate of 15,000 to 20,000 is more realistic. But that’s still a huge turnout by Raleigh standards, even if some of the participants were bused in from other states.

If organization, logistics, and marketing were sufficient to produce favorable legislation or electoral victories, the Moral Monday movement would be destined for success. I don’t think that is what’s about to happen, however. While the movement has ample financial and human resources, its strategy is fundamentally flawed.

The conservatives now in charge of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of state government, and of most county governments across North Carolina, believe their policies are right. They don’t believe they are sacrificing morality on the altar of political expediency.

‘Hypocrisy Much?!’: What Leaders of N.C. Rally Against Stricter Voter I.D. Laws Tell Marchers to Carry Just Might Make Your Head Explode

The Blaze, Dave Urbanski, February 8, 2014

You have to wonder how many among the thousands who participated in Saturday’s “Moral March on Raleigh” in North Carolina, angry with GOP policies approved in 2013 — including a stricter voter I.D. law — heeded one peculiar warning from march organizers:
Bring a photo I.D. to the march.

A downloadable PDF explainingImportant Do’s and Don’t's for Marchers!!! includes this tidbit: ”DO bring photo identification (driver’s license, passport or other valid photo id) with you and keep it on your person at all times.”

#MoralMarch Recap

Excerpts from article by Lady Liberty 1885!

So, the NC NAACP held their ‘grassroots’ Moral March – which was really just the annual HK on J (Historic Thousands on Jones St) with a bunch of groups bused in to make more noise. The main protest point, among the laundry list presented, was voter ID........

“People were bused in from NY, VA, GA, and SC. Yes, as far away as NY. Possibly even DCand Chicago? Yep – DC too and TN: “Planned Parenthood says buses with their supporters came from Georgia, Tennessee and Washington, D.C. ............

ZoNation: Conservative Blacks are Mouth-Pieces According to William Barber

William Barber, Director of the North Carolina Chapter of the NAACP, accuses conservatives of color of being mouth pieces for the GOP. He somehow over looks the big...really big, mouth piece he is, for the Democrat Party.

Moral Mondays on the Move!

The Blueprint NC Left is exporting their Alinskyite tactics to other states...

The American Spectator, by Paul Chesser, January 30, 2014

Last week a Reverend — who resides in the same category of “Reverends” as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson — impugned the intellectual integrity of Sen. Tim Scott, alleging that the South Carolina Republican is literally a mindless mouthpiece for the Tea Party.

Within the constricted worldview of Rev. Dr. (dual honors of dubious worth) William Barber II, leader of North Carolina’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, behaving conservative while black is an offense deserving of discredit. Hence his Martin Luther King Day remarks in Columbia, S.C. condemned “right-wing extremists,” with the Palmetto State’s replacement for Jim DeMint singled out for special denunciation.

“A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy…,” Barber told a crowd of about 300 loyalists at Zion Baptist Church. “The extreme right wing down here finds a black guy to be senator and claims he’s the first black senator since Reconstruction and then he goes to Washington, D.C., and articulates the agenda of the Tea Party.”

Letter to the Editor: A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy

"A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy.   The extreme right wing down here finds a black guy to be senator and claims he's the first black senator since reconstruction and then he goes to Washington D.C., and articulates the agenda of the Tea Party."

William Barber, president of the NAACP of North Carolina and Moral Monday fame recently made that remark concerning South Carolina senator, Tim Scott.  This is the kind of hateful rhetoric black conservatives get on a daily basis, specifically from other blacks.  The double standard and hypocrisy is astounding, as well as the fact that few are holding William Barber accountable for such a racist  comment.

Tim Scott’s story should be an inspiration to us all.  He grew up in less than ideal circumstances, but with the help of a mentor decided he would change the direction of his life.  After getting his education, he started his own business and got involved in his community to make a positive difference, eventually becoming a legislator and a senator.  He is no one’s dummy.

Beyond his personal efforts to become successful, Senator Scott has showed personal courage to stand for his beliefs, regardless of their popularity.  With humility and grace he has basically ignored the mean spirited attack from the “moral” Barber.

Apparently the “sin” of Tim Scott and other black conservatives is they have the audacity to refuse to participate in group think.  They see the policies of the Democrat party for what they are:  empty promises which undermine the character of the American psyche.  While it may help some people justify their behavior, their beat of the drum of racism does little to lift people out of dire situations.  Senator Scott’s mentor suggested that he “think” differently and base his choices on rational thought rather than emotional baggage.

Conservative ideals work for everyone, regardless of their skin color.  The benefits of individualism, limited government and liberty threaten the Democrats who wish to control what others do and think.  To insult someone because of a strange notion that the color of their skin must determine the way they think is the true definition of racism.

Black America: Stop The Insanity!

American Thinker, by Lloyd Marcus, January 30, 2014

Remember that spiky-haired blonde fitness guru all over TV years ago?  Her famous line was "Stop the insanity!"  As a commonsense-thinking black conservative, I offer the same clarion call to fellow black Americans: "Stop the insanity!"

Why do you continue sleeping with the enemy, voting for liberal Democrats whose policies imply that you are inferior, stupid, and culturally immoral?  When the NAACP and Democrats claim that requiring a photo ID disenfranchises blacks, such implies we are stupid.  For the life of me, I do not understand why millions of blacks are not highly insulted by this absurd claim.  Do blacks fly?  Do blacks drive cars?  Do blacks cash checks?

When Democrats and liberals accept over 70% out-of-wedlock births and fatherless households as a cultural norm in the black community, I am offended.  And yet, I am called a sellout.

Liberal Democrats' policies and programs have destroyed the black family and continue to devastate the black community.  Meanwhile, blacks vote monolithically for Democrats and politically beat up anyone, black or white, who offers commonsense solutions.  For crying out loud, stop the insanity!

God forbid that a black person dares to think outside the liberals 'we-be-simpleminded-blacks-in-need-of gov'ment-intervention-to-survive’ box.  Blacks becoming successful the old-fashioned way -- by earning it -- does not cut it with Democrats and liberals. Liberal media and Democrats grab such uppity blacks by their afros and politically drag their black derrières kicking and screaming back to the liberal Democrat plantation.

There, such blacks are strung up in the public square with their naked backs exposed, made an example for any other conservative-leaning blacks contemplating their escape.  Beaten, battered, and broken black conservatives are flogged within an inch of their political lives with countless articles and operative pundits calling them a stupid n*****, Uncle Tom, and traitor to their race.

A prime example of a black overlord of the Democrat liberal plantation attempting to rein in a black escapee is North Carolina NAACP Chapter President Rev. William Barber.  Black race-baiters typically use Black History Month and Martin Luther King Day to trash America for purposes of extortion.

In celebration of MLK Day, Rev. Barber called black conservative and Tea Party American Senator Tim Scott a puppet, saying, "A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy."
Senator Scott is about applying commonsense solutions to issues plaguing our country.  Thus, once again, any black who does not view him- or herself as a victim of an eternally racist white America, entitled and in need of lowered standards and expectations, is a dummy, a tool of white Republicans -- a stupid self-loathing n*****.  This is not an exaggeration.

I have been called these names and worse by Democrats and liberals for many years every time I suggest that blacks stop having babies out of wedlock, stop dropping out of schools, stopping killing each other, stop blaming whitey, and assume personal responsibility for their lives.  To me, this is true black empowerment.

I do not know what it is going to take for black America to see the light -- to understand the betrayal of a majority of the modern civil rights coalition.  If these so-called advocates truly gave a hoot about blacks, they would celebrate extraordinary black conservative achievers such as former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and businessman extraordinaire Herman Cain.  These blacks should be held high for black youths to see what can be achieved in the greatest land of opportunity on the planet via education, hard work, and good choices.

And yet, these blacks are despised by the white liberals and black civil rights leaders.  Why?  In a nutshell, these blacks nuke the Democrats' and liberals' entitlement and big-government narratives.

So while black America believes that white conservative Republicans are burning the midnight oil plotting ways to keep blacks down, Democrats and liberals are the ones keeping blacks enslaved.

With the liberal mainstream media in the Democrats' back pocket as complicit liberal plantation gatekeepers, I will continue praying for divine intervention while pounding on the plantation masters' door.  Let my people go!  My fellow black Americans, it truly is time to stop the insanity.

NAACP Expands Election Law Challenge

Carolina Journal News Reports--Lawsuit now includes Hispanics, end of early registration

By Barry SmithJan. 10th, 2014

RALEIGH — The head of the state’s NAACP said the civil rights organization is broadening its lawsuit against North Carolina’s new voter ID law and election law changes.

The Rev. William Barber, North Carolina NAACP president, said the organization was making it clear in the lawsuit that the new law would have a disparate impact on Hispanics as well as African Americans. He also said that the state would add the elimination of pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-olds to the lawsuit. Meantime, a former member of the Federal Elections Commission said the expanded lawsuit still fails to prove that aspects of the state’s election reform laws are unconstitutional.

“We will take on the issue of Latinos, and how this bill is impacting the Latino community,” Barber said Thursday during a telephone press conference. He said Maria Palmer, a newly elected member of the Chapel Hill Town Council and the first Hispanic elected to that post, was being added to the lawsuit as a plaintiff.

Irony Defined: NAACP Bullies VIP for Confidential Records

(Raleigh, NC)-JAN 2, 2014—Christmas was postponed indefinitely last month for the Voter Integrity Project after the NAACP served an expansive subpoena for the records of VIP on Friday, December 20, 2013.
“We won’t take this bullying lightly, but do marvel at their hypocrisy,” said Jay DeLancy, Chief Executive of the Voter Integrity Project-NC. “It looks like they’re employing the same tactics against us that bigoted Governors once used when trying to run the NAACP out of the South.”
During America’s civil rights era, several Governors and Attorney Generals attempted to destroy the NAACP by demanding their membership records and then punishing their supporters.
“The Supreme Court banned the practice in 1964’s NAACP v. Alabama decision,” he said, “but today, the NAACP are trying to use that tactic against us—private citizens who worry about election integrity.”
Civil rights groups like the NAACP rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, among other things, by fighting state and local laws in the South that were intended to prevent black people from voting.

“The entire spirit of the 1965 Voting Rights Act was to prevent stolen elections,” DeLancy said, “so we wonder how the NAACP twisted itself into opposing that principle today.”
The NAACP is suing NC Governor, Pat McCrory, over certain aspects of HB 589, the first election-reform law passed by North Carolina Republicans since Reconstruction.

NAACP trying to bully Variety Wholesalers/Art Pope because they don't agree with his politics!

Beaufort Observer, December 9, 2013

NAACP trying to bully Variety Wholesalers/Art Pope because they don't agree with his politics!

This left-wing bullying is wrong and all people of good will should go out of their way to support Variety Wholesalers.

State Budget Director Art Pope responded Monday (12-9-13) to the announced boycott of his family's businesses the NC NAACP, Democracy NC and the Institute of Southern Studies (all left-wing groups). You can read his letter by clicking here. Mr. Pope's letter speaks for itself.

What we would like to offer is what Mr. Pope did not say, but only implied, and then modestly.  Variety Wholesalers, Inc. is a remarkable success story in honest person's view. It is a "homegrown" industry that has save thousands of jobs in towns and communities where the loss of those jobs would have been devastating to small communities. Variety Wholesalers fits a special niche in the retail store industry in this state. It not only locates its stores in rural and small communities, but it also markets merchandise that provides exceptional value to customers—yes, specifically low income people.

Pope responds to criticism from NAACP, other liberal groups

December 9, 2013

RALEIGH, N.C. — State Budget Director Art Pope responded to critics picketing stores owned by his family's company, Variety Wholesalers, with a three-page letter today.
The letter is addressed William Barber, president of the state conference of the NAACP, who has organized the "Forward Together Moral Movement," a network of liberal groups that has consistently criticized the actions of the Republican-lead General Assembly and Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.
Pope and Barber came face-to-face last week as the NAACP leader announced the picketing campaign, which Barber said will "shine a light on NC Budget Director Art Pope's support and influence on the extremist and regressive direction of North Carolina public policy."
Pope responded today saying that he was speaking on behalf of himself and his company, which runs stores such as Roses and Maxway.
"I am shocked that you and your allies would demand any public official to support your political positions, by threatening a business which is not part of state government," Pope wrote. "It would be wrong for me to respond to your demands as State Budget Director because you are carrying out your threats against my company and our employees."
