DOJ: Nuns have 'no legal basis' to contest birth control mandate

The Justice Department on Friday urged Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to stop blocking the Obamacare mandate forcing organizations to provide insurance plans that include contraceptives, arguing that a religious group contesting the law did not have a complaint.

Just before Jan. 1, Sotomayor issued an injunction on behalf of Catholic nuns in Colorado who objected to the birth control mandate in the Affordable Care Act, claiming it violates their religious beliefs.

Obama’s ‘catch-me-if-you-can’ government lands him on most corrupt list - Washington Times

The nonprofit government watchdog Judicial Watch released its most recent annual list of “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” this week, and both political parties take a hit: House Speaker John Boehner’s there, as well as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

But topping the list: President Obama — for his “catch-me-if-you-can” manner of governing, Judicial Watch said.

On its website, the watchdog group wrote: “House Speaker John Boehner has apparently become a master at what Government Accountability Institute president Peter Schweizer calls the ‘Tollbooth Strategy,’ ” or when politicians charge interested parties money to move a bill through the legislative process.

And Mr. Boehner has used that method to “collect more than $200,000 in political donations from executives just days before holding votes on bills critically important to their industries,” Mr. Schweizer wrote, in his new book, “Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes and Line Their Own Pockets,” as cited by Judicial Watch.  (THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK FOLKS! ~ Lynn)

Mrs. Clinton, meanwhile, made the list for her famous Benghazi testimony, during which she responded to a question about the source of the attack, “What difference does it make?” Judicial Watch also said that “in addition to Hillary Clinton’s apparent cover-up of the role she played in the Benghazi tragedy and its aftermath, she left office in another ethical cloud about conflicts of interest in the activities of her longtime top aide Huma Abedin.”

On election night, November 2, 2010, Rep. John Boehner said in his victory speech:

...While our new majority will serve as your voice in the people’s House, we must remember it is the president who sets the agenda for our government. ... [emphasis added]

Next morning, Ezra Klein commented in the Cult of the President lives on:

I’d like Boehner to show us where in the Constitution it says that the president sets the agenda for the government. (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/11/the_cult_of_the_president_live.html)

But Boehner is not as astute as Ezra Klein, and does not know that it is our Constitution which sets the “agenda” for the federal government. The agenda the Constitution sets restricts the federal government to war, international relations & commerce; and domestically, the establishment of an uniform commercial system: a monetary system based on gold & silver, weights & measures, patents & copyrights, a bankruptcy code, and mail delivery (Art. I, Sec. 8, cls.1-16). ¹

Irony Defined: NAACP Bullies VIP for Confidential Records

(Raleigh, NC)-JAN 2, 2014—Christmas was postponed indefinitely last month for the Voter Integrity Project after the NAACP served an expansive subpoena for the records of VIP on Friday, December 20, 2013.

“We won’t take this bullying lightly, but do marvel at their hypocrisy,” said Jay DeLancy, Chief Executive of the Voter Integrity Project-NC. “It looks like they’re employing the same tactics against us that bigoted Governors once used when trying to run the NAACP out of the South.”

During America’s civil rights era, several Governors and Attorney Generals attempted to destroy the NAACP by demanding their membership records and then punishing their supporters.

“The Supreme Court banned the practice in 1964’s NAACP v. Alabama decision,” he said, “but today, the NAACP are trying to use that tactic against us—private citizens who worry about election integrity.”

Civil rights groups like the NAACP rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, among other things, by fighting state and local laws in the South that were intended to prevent black people from voting.

“The entire spirit of the 1965 Voting Rights Act was to prevent stolen elections,” DeLancy said, “so we wonder how the NAACP twisted itself into opposing that principle today.”

The NAACP is suing NC Governor, Pat McCrory, over certain aspects of HB 589, the first election-reform law passed by North Carolina Republicans since Reconstruction.

Will 2014 Be the Year of Amnesty?

Republicans might want to reorder their own priorities. A viable opposition party is a terrible thing to waste

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) seems determined to undo the political advantage the GOP has gained from the disastrous implementation of ObamaCare.

According to the New York Times, Boehner “has signaled he may embrace a series of limited changes to the nation’s immigration laws in the coming months,” bringing up a series of bills to advance that agenda. Apparently Boehner is holding firm to the belief that the need for some kind of “reform” outweighs the risks of alienating his core constituency.

According to the Boehner’s aides, the Speaker is considering a “step by step” process, though they did not identify these steps in specificity. TheTimes, no doubt in an effort to be “helpful,” suggested that such an agenda might include fast-tracking legalization for agricultural workers, increasing the number of visas for high-tech workers, or embracing citizenship for young illegals whose parents brought them across the border.

Unsurprisingly, gaining control of the border failed to make the list.

Industry, not environmentalists, killed traditional bulbs

Say goodbye to the regular light bulb this New Year.  

(Can you say "can't compete with China, so GE and others lined the pockets of Bush and Obama?"

For more than a century, the traditional incandescent bulb was the symbol of American innovation. Starting Jan. 1, the famous bulb is illegal to manufacture in the U.S., and it has become a fitting symbol for the collusion of big business and big government.

The 2007 Energy Bill, a stew of regulations and subsidies, set mandatory efficiency standards for most light bulbs. Any bulbs that couldn't produce a given brightness at the specified energy input would be illegal. That meant the 25-cent bulbs most Americans used in nearly every socket of their home would be outlawed.

People often assume green regulations like this represent the triumph of environmental activists trying to save the plant. That’s rarely the case, and it wasn't here. Light bulb manufacturers whole-heartedly supported the efficiency standards. General Electric, Sylvania and Philips — the three companies that dominated the bulb industry — all backed the 2007 rule, while opposing proposals to explicitly outlaw incandescent technology (thus leaving the door open for high-efficiency incandescents).

This wasn't a case of an industry getting on board with an inevitable regulation in order to tweak it. The lighting industry was the main reason the legislation was moving. As the New York Times reported in 2011, “Philips formed a coalition with environmental groups including the Natural Resources Defense Council to push for higher standards.”
