Crystal Coast Tea Party Patriots Meeting Tonight!

Mr. Ed Goodwin, candidate for NC Secretary of State will speak to the Crystal Coast TEA Party Patriots, Tuesday Night, June 12 at the Golden Corral in Morehead City. Meeting starts at 6:00 pm. Come early if you would like to eat prior to the meeting.

Due to his schedule, Mr. Goodwin was unable to be in our area when the western Carteret group will be meeting, therefore those of you who attend the western meeting the first and third Tuesdays of each month are encouraged to come to the Morehead City meeting to meet Mr. Goodwin if you can.

Mr. Goodwin is in a runoff against Kenn Gardner for Secretary of State. Mr. Gardner spoke to us this past Tuesday night and we wanted our members to hear from the other candidate. Howard and I had heard Mr. Goodwin speak at a meeting in New Bern a few weeks ago and were very impressed. Mr. Gardner also did an excellent job this week and we decided it would behoove us to hear them both prior to the TEA Party making a decision on which one to support.

Please try to make arrangements to come to our meeting next week (June 12) and bring a friend. We would like to have a good turnout again at this meeting. We had 40 attendees, plus the three candidates who spoke, at that meeting.

It is especially important that we elect the very best candidates for all the offices this year. Our country is in dire need for only the best. If we don't educate ourselves about those wanting to represent us, then we are just voting blindly.

Hope to see you Tuesday.
Peggy Garner

Secretary CCTPP

Much in the news as the election gets closer, but remember on July 17 there is a run off Primary election. Probably the most important race to those of us in easter North Carolina is between Mike Causey and Richard Morgan for NC Insurance Commissioner. Mr. Morgan believes residents of eastern North Carolins need to pay more for homeowner's and renter's insurance. Mike Causey disagrees. Read about Richard Morgan here, www.crystalcoastteaparty.com/richard-morgan-disgraced-republican-for-nc-insurance-commissioner/ and here, www.crystalcoastteaparty.com/the-morgan-five-ten-years-later/

NEWPORT — “This Tea Party movement is what’s made this country wonderful,” said Rep. Pat McElraft, standing on a portable stage Saturday during the Crystal Coast Tea Party’s tax day rally.......

"Bob Cavanaugh, chairman of the Crystal Coast Tea Party who spoke briefly before introducing the next guest, told the audience that citizens have given up their freedoms as a result of promises from leaders. “We’ve allowed the government to get out of hand,” he said."

The Key To Unlocking Original Intent:  State Ratifying Conventions and the Debate for the U.S. Constitution

Many Americans are now expressing interest in the U.S. Constitution and original intent. On January 6 Congress even read the U.S. Constitution.

James Madison, the father of the Constitution, once remarked that the Constitution’s meaning "is not in the opinions or intentions of the body which planned and proposed it, but in those of the state conventions where it received all the authority which it possesses." Notice the last six words! And a leading Federalist from North Carolina and one of the first justices on the U.S. Supreme Court, James Iredell, remarked at the 1788 ratification convention that it would be pointless for future generations to discuss original intent without any references to state ratifying conventions.

That’s why the John Locke Foundation and North Carolina History Project started offering constitutional workshops in 2010 and are now offering several more in 2011. The next one is scheduled for January 15 in Morehead City.

In “A Citizens’ Constitutional Workshop: What The State Ratifying Convention Can Teach Us Today,” participants learn about the importance of state ratifying conventions and that they gave the Constitution its legitimacy. Attendees are also introduced to leading North Carolina Federalists and Anti-Federalists—men such as William Blount, William R. Davie, Timothy Bloodworth, Samuel Spencer, and Willie Jones, and many other important luminaries and founding documents.

The workshops are an effort to understand original intent and to remind North Carolinians that a search for original intent must include a study of state ratification conventions.

For more information about North Carolina History Project or the constitutional workshops, please contact Founding Director Troy Kickler at tkickler@northcarolinahistory.org.

A Citizens’ Constitutional Workshop sponsored by the Crystal Coast Tea Party Patriots and presented by The John Locke Foundation and The North Carolina History Project

Saturday, January 15 at 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, Joslyn Hall, Carteret Community College, 3505 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557. Cost is $5.00 (does not include lunch).
