The Nation: A State of Non-existence

Tuesday, January 7, 2014, Christian Mercenary

It is my opinion that there is no way to vote one's way out of the current political situation. I make this statement recognizing that there are those who will continue to seek a political (peaceful) solution to the current political situation until the very moment they are dispatched at the edge of a large pit filled with their neighbors and loved ones.

One must understand the political situation as it exists. There is no reverence for the Constitution, the only thing that decides who does and who does not wield the power and authority the citizens have placed in the government. There is a means by which to elect representatives, but representatives and senators who refuse to obey their oaths of office, who turn a blind eye to abuses of power and outright usurpation of their own powers can not be functioning as representatives or senators and therefore, whether duly elected or not, are traitors and subversives.

There are no separation of powers, no equality of governmental branches. There is a president acting wholly outside the Constitution, usurping and abusing power without limit or consequence. Once the Supreme Court signed off on Obamacare, it effectively ruled that whatever the government wishes shall be done. The decision, in that case, was so sloppy and contradictory that it demonstrated an absolute disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, stare decisis and any number of other judicial instruments of justice.

The system is broken. It is no longer a system of government at all, but rather a system of power.

The Founders' Amazing System to Ensure Peaceful Elections

National Center for Constitutional Studies:
The Founders' Amazing System to Ensure Peaceful Elections

Every two years or so many Americans endure the frustration that comes with elections and the current election cycles that have evolved. Especially in highly contested elections, as some of us have just experienced in primary elections, the feeling is quite general that we just can't wait until all of this is over. It seems ironic that Americans, who value the freedom of the most prosperous nation in the world, have to endure a system that is becoming more and more repulsive.

What most Americans don't realize is that there is a better way—a way that would be much smoother, less costly, generate less contention, and produce more qualified public servants! It is a system developed by our Founding Fathers to avoid the very problems we have today. It is a system they spelled out for us to follow. It is a system we have stopped teaching and therefore stopped practicing. It is definitely a system worth restoring. Let's review this incredible wisdom.

The Founders' Guiding Principles about Public Service

1.  Political office is different than any other activity because it involves power over people and their money. This kind of power often leads to competition for the office and, once obtained, corruption of the office holder. Here is the way Benjamin Franklin explained it during the Constitutional Convention:

"Sir, there are two passions which have a powerful influence in the affairs of men. These are ambitions and avarice; the love of power and the love of money. Separately, each of these has great force in prompting men to action [in private pursuits]; but when united in view of the same object [in political office], they have in many minds the most violent effects. Place before the eyes of such men a post of honor, that shall at the same time be a place of profit, and they will move heaven and earth to obtain it.”

Franklin then went on to say that if such political offices carry high salaries and are seen to wield great power, the wrong people will contend for the job and, if they win the office, will have ongoing enemies trying to dislodge them from office. Said he:

"And of what kind are the men that will strive for this profitable preeminence, through all the bustle of cabal, the heat of contention, the infinite mutual abuse of parties, tearing to pieces the best of characters? It will not be the wise and moderate, the lovers of peace and good order, the men fittest for the trust. It will be the bold and the violent, the men of strong passions and indefatigable activity in their selfish pursuits. These will thrust themselves into your government, and be your rulers. And these, too, will be mistaken in the expected happiness of their situation; for their vanquished competitors, of the same spirit, and from the same motives, will perpetually be endeavoring to distress their administration, thwart their measures, and render them odious to the people."

2.  Public office should never be considered as a job or career but as a service or mission. Because political office involves power over people and money, it should never be looked upon as a long-term way of life or occupation for someone. Political office should only be held for a short period of time by someone who has already proven capable of handling the powers of government by developing a high degree of virtue and talents in his private life. In other words, he has been successful at something—building a successful business, raising a strong family, contributing to the betterment of the community, and living under the laws and regulations passed by others. He has been through the fire of life sufficiently to know how to serve in government to be a protector of individual freedoms. Thomas Jefferson said that our government needs to have a system whereby these people can be identified and asked to serve. He called this process the natural aristocracy:

"There is a natural aristocracy among men. The grounds of this are virtue and talents.... There is, also, an artificial aristocracy, founded on wealth and birth, without either virtue or talents; …May we not even say, that that form of government is the best, which provides the most effectually for a pure selection of these natural aristoi into the offices of government?"

3.  Ideally, to assure independence and the spirit of service, public officials should have a separate means of support . In the specific case of legislators, this will have a tendency to keep legislative sessions to the absolute minimum so they can return to their livelihood. This will insure the concept of a citizen-legislature. Of course, the Founders recognized that some full-time officials, such as executives, may have to be given a minimum salary to sustain them during their brief period of full-time service. The early constitution of Pennsylvania contained the following provision to emphasize this principle. Notice it also contained a suggestion of what action should be taken if too many people would apply for the job:

"As every freeman, to preserve his independence, (if he has not a sufficient estate) ought to have some profession, calling, trade, or farm, whereby he may honestly subsist, there can be no necessity for, nor use in, establishing offices of profit; the usual effects of which are dependence and servility, unbecoming freemen, in the possessors and expectants; faction, contention, corruption, and disorder among the people. Wherefore, whenever an office, through increase of fees or otherwise, becomes so profitable, as to occasion many to apply for it, the profits ought to be lessened by the legislature."

4.  Public service should be considered a call to serve, therefore necessitating no campaigning for the office. Listen to one of America 's most honored public servants, George Washington, who never campaigned for the office:

"I should unfeignedly rejoice in case the electors, by giving their votes in favor of some other person, would save me from the dreaded dilemma of being forced to accept or refuse."

"If I should receive the appointment and if I should be prevailed upon to accept it, the acceptance would be attended with more diffidence and reluctance than I ever experienced before in my life."

"It would be...with a fixed and sole determination of lending whatever assistance might be in my power to promote the public weal, in hopes that at a convenient and early period my services might be dispensed with, and that I might be permitted once more to retire, to pass an unclouded evening after the stormy day of life, in the bosom of domestic tranquility."

5.  With the welfare of the nation or state in mind rather than the power of the office, if another good candidate is willing to accept the request for temporary service, it is a mark of true patriotism and statesmanship to step aside and let the other serve. How many times have we seen candidates so forcibly aspire to office that they will participate in denigrating an otherwise good person during an election campaign. Such conduct finds no justification in Christian principles or Holy Writ. Washington expressed:

"The presidency...has no enticing charms and no fascinating allurements for me,....Let those follow the pursuits of ambition and fame who have a keener relish for them, or who may have more years in store for the enjoyment."

The Founders set an example of how to choose good and wise public officials

One of the most debated items in the Constitutional Convention was how to choose the president. Over 60 different suggestions and straw ballots were had among the delegates. They finally decided on a unique plan to ensure the best possible choice for president. Here is the way it was designed to work. It has come to be called the electoral college. It may also be called a council of electors.

Electors would be chosen every four years in each state according to the number of Senators and Representatives in each state. Note that less populated states would be weighted slightly more. This lessens the possibility of control by the vulnerable masses. Also, no government employee or office holder can be an elector. The electors would meet in their respective states and, by secret ballot, each would nominate two persons, one of which could not be in the same state. Note that there would be no national conventions to emotionalize the choices.

The ballots would then be tallied and a list of candidates with the number of votes for each would be transmitted to the President of the U. S. Senate. The lists would be opened in the presence of the Senate and House and the votes tallied and a list made according to the total number of votes from all the states. The one who received the most votes, if a majority of the total number of electors, would be president. The next highest would be the vice-president. Note that only on a rare occasion would this step produce the final decision, because there would likely be many candidates nominated, most probably being “favorite sons.”

If two or three received the same number more than the required majority, the House of Representatives would make the decision. If no one received a majority, the House would make the decision from the five names receiving the most votes. In either case, the voting in the House would be by state with each state having one vote. Note that under the Founders' plan, the House would probably make the decision most of the time. Also note that the president would not be a leader of the masses of people, as in a democracy, but instead would be the leader of a union of united, sovereign states, as in a republic. Hence each state, regardless of its population, would have one vote in the choice.

Notice how this system avoids the pitfalls of political parties, national conventions, emotional appeal to the masses, empty promises, charges and counter-charges between candidates, and the necessity of raising huge amounts of money for campaigning.

The Founders system of electors should be an example to the states for other offices

This unique thinking of the Founders introduces a “council” concept in choosing public office holders. Imagine how that could work on a state level. The states would each have an electoral council which would interview, investigate, and evaluate those whose names have been put forward by the respective counties. Then, on a certain day, they make their nominations by ballot and the results are sent to the state House of Representatives which follows the same procedure. Whoever has the most votes, if a majority, is chosen to that particular office. If no one has the majority then each county represented in the House has one vote in the final choice from the list of highest number of votes of the elector council.

The value of working through carefully selected councils

Notice that these councils, whether choosing national officers or choosing state officers, are composed of citizens chosen from “lower level” jurisdictions. This insures, insomuch as is humanly possible, that decisions made will be much wiser and more responsive to the real needs of the people in maintaining individual liberty and justice. These “lower jurisdictions” would also be sensitive to the possibility of factions forming, such as a clique or a political party. When this happens they can immediately dissolve the council and form a new one.

Some may wonder where the element of democracy is in this procedure. It is on the very grassroots level, where it should be, as people choose wise and honest citizens to serve on these councils. This is really democracy at its best!

Rejecting the example of the Founders has proven to be a serious mistake

The so-called progressive movement to reject the Founders' council system has nearly demolished the remnants of their marvelous formula for choosing wise leaders. For example:

•Instead of resisting the growth of political parties, state and national laws have given political parties actual political power in choosing our public officials.

•The Supreme Court decision of “one man, one vote” has destroyed the concept of the lower jurisdictions having a major influence on the direction of the higher jurisdictions. States were forced to divide into legislative districts rather than let the counties be represented in legislatures; hence, counties can no longer protect themselves from the intrusions of higher levels of government.

The Seventeenth Amendment ripped the states right out of the federal machinery by depriving state legislators of the right to send their representatives to the senate to preserve states' rights. States can no longer protect themselves from federal intrusion.

The movement to completely abolish what is left of the electoral system will make the nation one large democracy, reflecting the emotional will of only the swayable masses of the people.

•The concept of government by wise councils is severely damaged by initiative and recall measures in some states, where some laws and public officials are left to the decisions of the masses, which are usually influenced by money, media, emotion, and debauching tendencies of the people.

Hopefully, the reawakening that seems to be happening in America will lead the people to study and better appreciate the system the Founders gave us for choosing wise leaders. They set the example and hoped we would pick up where they left off to provide an even stronger and greater America.

Sincerely,
Earl Taylor, Jr.

Executive Orders Threaten Representative Government and Federalism

By Rebecca DiFede – Executive orders have become a common topic in the news recently ever since Obama announced his intention to issue one that will require businesses and individuals bidding on federal contracts to reveal their political donations to the civil servants who are making the contract letting decisions. Many stand in opposition to this potential rule, but because of this power granted only to the President, it will be very difficult for Congress to overturn.

An executive order (E.O.) is a direct mandate from the President that is implemented by the Executive branch. It has the full force of law and can be enacted immediately. If that thought scares you, congratulations, you have a functioning brain.

Though this seeming carte blanche authority is not an explicit power in the Constitution, it is considered implicitly granted as an “executive power” in Article III, Section 1. It can be traced back to 1789 when President Washington gave the first ever executive order, and President Lincoln is considered to have issued the first officially numbered executive order.

To date, there are 13,581 executive orders which are used to manage operations within administration agencies, extend diplomatic immunity for international dignitaries, designate public land, set up affirmative action requirements, etc. Basically, anything the President can issue an executive order about anything that he/she decides is important and it must be honored. If it is particularly egregious, Congress or the Supreme Court could strike it down. But absent action, the executive order stands with the full weight of law.

They're at it again! Dems are using a page from the Gephart playbook to demonize GOP Medicare plan.

Posted by Arthur Bruce Robertson on May 31, 2011
http://www.teapartynation.com/profiles/blog/show?id=3355873%3ABlogPost%3A942934

I first became aware of the cunning manner in which facts are distorted for political purposes back in the 1994 election cycle. Then Missouri Democratic Congressman Dick Gephart demonstrated a mastery for twisting the truth by mis-characterizing it altogether. When Newt Gingrich introduced his "Contract with America" concept for the GOP platform that year, Gephart craftily destroyed what could have been one of the best programs to improve America ever conceived. I found myself frustrated and enraged at the lies and mis-characterizations Gephart kept pounding to defeat Newt's excellent ideas.

I was further dismayed at the seeming lack of active 'defense' offfered by other Republicans, who should have stepped forward to defend against Gephart's oft-repeated lies. I was also amazed at the lack of accountability required by the 'media'. It seemed that regardless of the outrageous claims made by Gephart, no one in the media challenged him to back them up with fact or example. Watching all this political gamesmanship play out is what actually caused me to start paying attention to politics and government generally. The effectiveness of lying, fear mongering, and demogogery proved too much for Newt's Contract With America, especially given that virtually no one was making any effort to defend it or clearify its intentions and benefits.

Today, I am watching history repeat itself, as the Republican plan for an intelligent and necessary re-structuring of Medicare is being assaulted with lies, fear mongering, and demogogery just like the Contract With America was seventeen years ago. Congressman Paul Ryan has stepped forward to boldly address the crisis which looming bankruptcy of Medicare poses. He has offered a simple and effective solution to assure future generations of retiring Americans that healthcare will be available to them when those who are now 55 reach 65 in 2022.

The plan involves ending the fee for service arrangement of today, which has been proven to be horrendously inefficient and fraught with waste and fraud. In its place, the government would simply provide the money for seniors to purchase health insurance in the open market. This plan would utilize the competitive forces at work between the various insurance companies to create a better product at a lower cost. By moving seniors into the private market for their healthcare, the climate for waste, fraud and abuse would be eliminated, while giving Seniors more choices. A much better way of handling the healthcare needs of retiring Americans, while saving taxpayers billions. With the budget deficit and National debt under discussion, Ryan's plan, endorsed by most Republican members of Congress, offers one giant step toward fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget. A good thing for America, right? Of course it is, but the wicked Democrats can't stand it.

No, they must seize the opportunity to politicize Ryan's plan, painting it as 'doomsday' for Seniors and for one purpose: If they can scare Seniors and others approaching retirement into believing the Ryan plan is not in their best interest they hope to turn them against not only the plan, but against Republicans generally, and secure them as Democratic voters in 2012. By lies and mis-characterizations Democrats hope to frighten voters into believing Republicans are scoundrels and Democrats deserve their support. Even though Democrats have not offered any solutions of their own, other than "Obamacare", they want to destroy the Ryan plan before it gets traction in the Congress or with the public at large. Regardless of its merits, they would use lies and scare tactics to defeat it, simply to convince more voters to vote Democratic in 2012. That is not only dirty, it is patently unpatriotic!

Terms like, "kill Medicare", "destroy Medicare as we know it", "hand Seniors over to the evil Insurance industry", "deny Seniors that which they've spent their whole lives building" and other such gross misrepresentations are already having their effect on uninformed and gullible Seniors. Witness a recent State election in which the Democrat won in a formerly very Republican stronghold. If Republicans nationwide don't take action to properly define and frame the Ryan plan for Seniors, I fear for its success. If Democrats succeed with their scare tactics, based on lies and mis-representations, we may once again witness the counter-productive results of the Gephart stategy. Dems will do their best to make the 2012 election a referendum on Ryan's plan to reduce Federal spending, balance the budget and save Medicare from bankruptcy. And they will be using the Gephart playbook all the way to election day.

OPINION: Townhall.com--Dr. Mike Adams

January 22, 2011

Kermit the Dog By Mike Adams

1/21/2011 For decades, liberals have been playing upon people’s emotions by exploiting human tragedy for political gain. In recent months, that tendency has become more pronounced. Their attempt to use the suicides of eight confused young men to advance the homosexual agenda was disgraceful. Then there was the more recent attempt to use the Tucson shooting to advance a gun control agenda that will ultimately increase homicide and other crimes of violence. I think the time has come for conservatives to start making better use of tragedy for political gain.

There can be no better starting place for the exploitation of tragedy than the case of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Just Wednesday, he was charged with murder. He stands accused of delivering seven babies and then using scissors to kill each one of them. He was also charged with murder in the death of a woman who suffered an overdose of painkillers while awaiting an abortion.

The grand jury report in this case contains details that would make Margaret Sanger proud. The evidence indicates that numerous complaints about the conditions at Gosnell's clinic were ignored. His clinic catered to West Philadelphia’s poor minorities – the kind of people Sanger referred to as human weeds that should be removed from the population.

Darwin proclaimed “survival of the fittest.” Sanger promoted survival of the whitest and survival of the richest. She would have been proud to learn that white women from the suburbs were ushered into a separate, slightly cleaner area of his clinic. Prosecutors allege that this was because Gosnell believed they were more likely to file complaints.

Kermit Gosnell was not the only one arrested and charged with numerous counts of murder. His wife was a cosmetologist who was supposed to cut hair. The allegation is that she cut babies instead.

Every crime has a motive and prosecutors have a motive in this case. It was money. Gosnell made millions of dollars performing thousands of dangerous abortions, many of them illegal late-term procedures. He is alleged to have cut costs by refusing to hire nurses and trained medical staff.

The abortions are alleged to have been “unsafe.” Of course abortions are never safe. There is one killed and one wounded in every case of abortion. Now the court must decide whether the abortions were legal. Since it appears that at least two women died from the procedures, while others suffered perforated bowels, cervixes and uteruses, the case seems ripe for a plea bargain. But prosecutors should resist the temptation. They should seek the maximum penalty in a televised trial.

Prosecutors have noted that Gosnell induced labor, then forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, and eighth months of pregnancy. He then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord. According to prosecutors, Gosnell referred to it as "snipping.” One problem for prosecutors is that Gosnell seems to have destroyed many of his medical files. That is not surprising. Abortion doctors do not keep their Hippocratic oaths. Why should they be expected to keep their records?

There appears to be a certain Hannibal Lecter quality to this case. Authorities have found bags and bottles holding aborted fetuses scattered throughout the offices of Kermit Gosnell. There were jars found containing severed feet that were kept for no apparent purpose. They were the kinds of trophies which, had they not been human, would have aroused the ire of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). But these were not people’s pets. They were people’s mistakes. They deserved no ethical treatment in the eyes of some.

Prosecutors in the Gosnell case have also alleged that he falsified ultrasound examinations and taught his staff to hold the probe in such a way that the fetus would look smaller. He is alleged to have joked with his staff saying one (fetus) was so large he could "walk me to the bus stop.”

How did Kermit Gosnell pass the annual inspections of his clinic, which opened in 1979? It was actually pretty easy since there have only been five inspections since 1979 and none since 1993.

Some defenders of abortion will point out that – although he earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University – Gosnell started, but did not finish, a residency in obstetrics-gynecology. Some have already said that he does not know how to perform an abortion without risking killing someone. That trite observation ignores the obvious: No one has ever performed an abortion without actually killing someone.

In the wake of the Tucson shooting some have argued that we should limit semi-automatic handgun magazine capacity to ten. I think we should consider limiting abortion clinic waiting room capacity to ten. Or maybe we should have a seven-day cooling down period for those who have a passion for performing abortions.

However we decide to exploit this tragedy, the conservative slogan is fairly obvious: “Guns don’t kill people. Abortion doctors kill people.” We need to start printing tee shirts now.

BLOG FROM A LETTER TO THE EDITOR

ONE COMMUNITY IN EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA WANTS TO SHUT DOWN OPPOSING VIEWS--SOUNDS LIKE SOCIALISM TO ME!

"I am sending this to a few of you to perhaps reinforce something I have felt for a long time. This appeared on a blog regarding the letter below with the following statement:

"This is a guy that need a forum to spew his thoughts and cannot do it on the Riverbend email vehicle since he and others were admonished for creating political bias. The ditto's love this and add to the insane rhetoric and dare to call themselves true Americans by disrespecting the office of the President. You may not like the person but you should respect the office."

There were 6 replies to this comment all of which admonished the sender. My point is this; I believe that we have among us some real socialists sympathizers and I say this because the video of the Oct 2nd Socialist rally could not be misunderstood. Those that participated in that rally were true Obama supporters.

It is hard for me to believe that anyone who earned a living that enabled them to establish themselves as residents of RB, could support a political doctrine that would have made it almost impossible for them to achieve what they achieved.
Thanks for listening; I needed to vent."----Lou

Why We March & Vote

“The most crucial midterm elections in our nation's history are barely a month away. What's at stake? The future of the changes our country voted for in 2008 with the election of President Obama. The message then was clear: the voters had enough of the right-wing policies attacking working people, enough of endless war, racism, environmental destruction, hate and division.”

If you plan on voting the Democratic ticket November 2nd, the paragraph quoted above came from the CPUSA web site in reference to the Communist/Socialist rally in Washington DC on October 2nd. If you are not familiar with CPUSA it stands for Communist Party USA.

What more ringing endorsement of our sitting president then the support of CPUSA.

The question you must ask yourself is this: do they speak for me and is this the change I voted for? Every democrat I know has always fought against worldwide Communism yet here we stand. As Americans, do we still support a president who has been called a Socialist, a Marxist or do we put aside party politics and vote out those that support Obama’s agenda?

They’re right about one thing when they stated, “The most crucial midterm elections in our nation's history are barely a month away. What's at stake?”

I think we all know the answer to that one; God give us the courage to stand for the hard right against the easy wrong.

Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law -- when she engaged in political discussion at polling place!

FIRST LADY CAMPAIGNS INSIDE POLLING PLACE

(One set of rules for the Obama's and their cronies, another set for the American People!)

Thu Oct 14 2010 16:19:25 ET

First lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law -- when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place!

The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.

After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.

She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.

"She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband's agenda going," Campbell said.

According to a pool reporter from the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES at the scene, the conversation took place INSIDE the voting center, not far from the booths.

Illinois state law -- Sec. 17-29 (a) -- states: "No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place [or] within 100 feet of any polling place."

A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT that Mrs. Obama -- a Harvard-educated lawyer -- may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally.

"You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's pretty well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing."  (She should be held to a higher standard, I think!  She did it, because they think they can do whatever they want!)

WHITE HOUSE DEFENDS ELECTIONEERING

When questioned about the brazen nature of Mrs. Obama's campaigning, press secretary Robert Gibbs defended the action.

"I don't think it would be much to imagine, the First Lady might support her husband's agenda," Gibbs smiled.

DAVID HOGBERG, INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

America In Decline, Sowell Says, Citing Spending And Int'l Policy

By DAVID HOGBERG, INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

Posted 09/22/2010 07:17 PM ET

Early in his administration, President Reagan confidently asserted that "America's best days lie ahead." At the time it was true, but noted economist Thomas Sowell thinks it's no longer the case.

In his new book, "Dismantling America," Sowell argues that this nation is becoming one that many Americans no longer recognize as the country they grew up in or expected to pass on to their children and grandchildren. Rather, like Rome, America may be entering a prolonged period of decline.

Sowell sat down with IBD recently to discuss the political, social and economic forces that are leading to this decline and what, if anything, can reverse it.

IBD: What are the markers of national decline? What characteristics are different from a few decades ago that if they don't improve will lead to this country falling apart?

Sowell: One of the most serious current signs is the governing style of this administration, which is to impose as many things as possible on the public from the top down, without even letting them know what's going on.

Huge bills that fundamentally change the way the economy op erates have been rushed through Congress without hearings, without debate, and so fast that not even the members of Congress have a chance to read them. That's circumventing the notion of a constitutional government, and that's really at the heart of what the country is. The only analogy I can think of from history is when the Norman conquerors of England published their laws in French for an English-speaking nation. The utter arrogance — you're not even to know what the laws are until it is too late.

Reckless spending is another. The deficit and the national debt, as a percentage of GNP, is higher now than it was during any time except World War II. Moreover, once World War II was over we stopped the spending and started paying off the existing debt. We're going in exactly the opposite direction.

Of course, the one that trumps them all is on the international scene. That's where Iran is moving toward nuclear weapons. I'm just staggered at how little attention is being paid to that compared to frivolous things. If a nation with a record of sponsoring international terrorism gets nuclear weapons, that changes everything and it changes it forever.

Someday historians may wonder what were we thinking about when you look at the imbalance of power between the U.S. and Iran, and we sat there with folded hands and watched this happen, going through just enough motions at the United Nations to lull the public to sleep. That, I think, is the biggest threat.

IBD: Do you think the Israelis will take out Iran's nuclear program if they will be condemned by the "international community" and can't rely on backing from the Obama administration?

Sowell: If the choice is between condemnation or annihilation, I think they will go for condemnation. There may be reasons why it isn't feasible, but it's a tremendous choice to leave on them.

IBD: What has Obama done to hasten our decline?

Sowell: He has affronted our allies, but he's very clever about it. He's done it in ways that the general public is unlikely to notice. But it is in ways that people in other countries cannot mistake at all, such as the downgrading of the visits of the prime minister of Britain or Israel. At one time the visit of the prime minister of Great Britain meant a state dinner, a press conference and so on.

His first foreign policy gambit was to fly to Russia and offer to renege on the American commitment to put a missile shield in Eastern Europe, in hopes of getting Russian cooperation with the United States. All he really got out of that was a demonstration of his amateurishness and of his willingness to sell out allies in hopes of winning over enemies. That ploy was tried in the 1930s and didn't work all that well.

IBD: One big trend leading to America's decline that came through in the book was how politicians and activists use rhetoric.

Sowell: It's partly that, but it is also the education system has not taught people how to see through rhetoric. Somewhere Oliver Wendell Holmes says that the purpose of education is to create a mind that cannot be humbugged by words. Well, that is not the purpose of American education now. Much of the humbugging by words takes place inside the educational institutions themselves. Students are not generally taught to see both sides of an issue and learn how to analyze in such ways to see what the differences are and how you would sort it all out. Instead they're given one side and they're told that one side is it.

Schools all around the country have shown Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." But I doubt that one-tenth of students have seen the British Channel 4 production called "The Great Global Warming Swindle."

IBD: So if children are taught only one side as unquestioned truth, what's the value of experience and wisdom?

Sowell: At one time students were taught, "You're young, you're inexperienced, you have a lot to learn. It's not up to you to make sweeping conclusions about society." Today that is not the message. Today when I see young kids, sometimes elementary students, carrying banners for some crusade, someone ought to tell them that you don't even know anything. Or you hear they are writing letters to the president on nuclear policy and so on. Within the past week, I got a letter from a high school senior who was about to inform me about economics in general and about the reason why there was a Great Depression and why it is necessary that Obama does the things he does. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. But students are encouraged to think that way.

IBD: You note in your book that Americans take a lot of good things in this country for granted. How does that hasten our decline?

Sowell: You have to have a sense that freedom is always under siege, and not just by people who don't believe in freedom but by people who have their own agendas and either don't know or don't care that those agendas mean reducing other people's freedom. So if you don't have a sense of the danger from those sources, you're going to face a steady erosion of freedom, because people put their own agendas ahead of other people's freedom.

IBD: The "Vision of the Anointed" — the idea that there is an anointed elite qualified to run other people's lives — surely that must be playing a role in the dismantling of America.

Sowell: Oh, absolutely! And I think no one believes in that vision more so than Barack Obama, with the possible exception of Michelle Obama. They are the ones who know what we need. The very idea that anyone would take over someone else's medical care and think that it can be run from Washington by bureaucrats is just staggering. There needs to be a healthy fear of "making a difference" in areas where you have no expertise. Some years ago I was in a hotel, and the hotel clerk called me up and asked, "Is this Dr. Sowell?" I said yes. He said, "There is a pregnant woman downstairs in labor. Would you please come downstairs and help with the delivery?" I was absolutely appalled. That ought to be the reaction of most people when presented with an opportunity to "make a difference" in an area where they don't know what they are talking about.

IBD: How does the housing crisis embody some of the trends in the book?

Sowell: Everything that was done wrong in the past has been continued and escalated in the present. The recent so-called financial reform act left out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It's like Hamlet without the Prince of Denmark. Fannie and Freddie are two institutions that are in the production and distribution of moral hazard.

Nothing will increase risk more than by shifting it to somebody else. If I thought the government would back me up, I'd go into the commodities market and put a million dollars into soybean futures. Knowing that the government is not going to back me up, I won't go within 100 miles of the commodities market.

Politicians know that politically it pays to have the taxpayers pick up the bill (as with Fannie and Freddie). People ask me sometimes, "Why do politicians keep making the same mistakes? Don't they ever learn?" And I reply, "They do learn! They learn they can get away with it. That's what they learn."

IBD: What is the "fallacy of fairness"?

Sowell: Most people would say that the government should treat everybody alike, judge them by the same standards, reward or punish them according to the same rules. That we can pretty much agree on.

But there is a more esoteric notion of fairness. Is it fair if one person is born into the world in circumstances that virtually guarantee their failure and others are born into circumstances that virtually guarantee their success? That kind of fairness is not social injustice, because society doesn't create it and society can't do much about it.

In my case I can see it pretty vividly. I'm one of those people who was separated from my siblings in infancy, grew up not knowing they existed and learned about them later on. We were all raised by poor people with very little education. But the family in which I was raised was determined that, although they had no education, I should have an education. I remember what a fuss was made when I was promoted to the seventh grade. I was taken aback by it and someone said to me, "You've now gone further than any of us."

Now contrast that with my younger brother raised down in North Carolina. One day, as a teenager, someone noticed he had on his Sunday clothes in the middle of the week. When asked why, he said he was graduating from high school that day. No one came to see him graduate or thought much of it, even though none of the people in his family had ever gone to high school. So he had to do it all on his own .

I had a sister who was also raised hundreds of miles away. And when she went to Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., which was an elite school, there was resentment in her adoptive family. The reason was that the biological daughters in that family were nowhere near smart enough to go to that school.

Sociologists would come along and lump all three of these families together. But the kinds of things that matter are the things that politicians and bureaucrats can't do much about.

Now, you can create scholarships, tutoring programs and so on. But you have to recognize that the values that the kids have are the crucial things that will make or break them.

IBD: In your book you have two columns titled "Empathy Versus the Law," and you discuss the rule of law vs. the rule of lawyers and judges. Explain how that is leading to our decline.

Sowell: Empathy is one of the weasel words of our time. It is a prettier word than bias, but it means the same thing. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor with those firefighters in Connecticut gave a free demonstration what empathy and bias mean. And yet not only was she confirmed; there were Republicans who announced going in that they were going to confirm her.

One of the things that happens is that people have no sense of what the law is supposed to be. It's not a matter of righting wrongs.

In the days of the French Revolution, "representatives on missions" were sent around the country to right wrongs. They had the power to overrule any laws or local officials. They carried their own guillotines with them. That notion of law, that's the direction those who are pushing judicial activism are going.

There was a time when we understood the judge's job is not to have empathy; his job is to carry out the law as written. And if it was a bad law it was up to the legislature to change it.

IBD: What do you think of the Tea Party movement? Could it reverse our decline?

Sowell: I'm sure it's one of the elements. I think one of the things more important than the Tea Parties is that so many people who were not political activists before have been spurred into action by the kind of things that have been done and the dangers they see. The biggest danger is not to see the danger. There are increasing numbers of people who see the danger. There are increasing numbers of people according to the polls who have no confidence in the media. I was delighted that Newsweek magazine is having so much trouble because they richly deserve it. There was one time I wondered who they were going to put on the cover once the Obamas were gone. So there are those signs, and as the great philosopher Yogi Berra said, "It's not over till it's over."

WORLD NET DAILY: Pastors taken to task for political apathy

'What we have in America is a preacher problem'

"As the church goes, so goes the nation; as the pastor goes, so goes the church." Scarborough said, "What we have in America is a preacher problem."

Scarborough, himself a former Southern Baptist minister, told the audience his story of recognizing the need for pastors to snap out of political complacency and get involved in the cultural war for the soul of the nation.

CALL TO ACTION

URGENT: VOTE ON DISCLOSE ACT TODAY, September 23, 2010

Once again, we must fight for our basic rights that the liberals want to take away from us. Today, Harry Reid is going to try and shove the DISCLOSE act through the Senate. This must be stopped.

The DISCLOSE act is the response to the Citizens United case, where the Supreme Court ruled much of the McCain Feingold campaign finance law unconstitutional.

The Democrats don't have a problem with corporations spending money on political speech. They have a problem with anyone engaging in political speech that disagrees with them.

The DISCLOSE act puts restrictions on spending for political speech, but amazingly enough only for those who generally disagree with them. Certain groups, Democratic constituencies, like Unions, are exempted from the requirements of the DISCLOSE act.

The DISCLOSE act is another attack on free speech and must be stopped. Call your Senators this morning and tell them to vote against the DISCLOSE act.

Two Senators who seem to be on the fence on this one are Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine. Call their offices and tell them to vote against this bill.

Collins numbers are: 202-225-2523 or 207-945-0416.
Snowe's numbers are: 202-225-5344 or 207-874-0883.

Call today, while we still have a First Amendment to protect!

Op-Ed: Walter Williams

Liberal crackup

September 15, 2010

Charles Krauthammer, in his Washington Post column (Aug. 27), said, "Liberalism under siege is an ugly sight indeed," pointing out that overwhelming majorities of Americans have repudiated liberal agenda items such as: Obamacare, Obama’s stimulus, building an Islamic center and mosque near ground zero, redefinition of marriage to include same-sex marriage, lax immigration law enforcement and vast expansion of federal power that includes unprecedented debt and deficits.

The nation’s elite and the news media see being against the Obama-led agenda as being racist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, mean-spirited and insensitive. Paul Krugman, columnist for The New York Times, has a different twist expressed in "It’s Witch-Hunt Season" (Aug. 29). Krugman says that the last time a Democrat sat in the White House, Bill Clinton, he faced a witch-hunt by his political opponents. "Now," Krugman says, "it’s happening again — except that this time it’s even worse," asking, "So where is this rage coming from? Why is it flourishing? What will it do to America?"

Professor Krugman and others among America’s elite blame some of the rage on talk-show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. They are only partially correct. What talk shows have accomplished is they’ve ended the isolation of many ordinary Americans. When the liberal mainstream media dominated the airwaves, Americans who were against race and sex quotas were made to feel as though they were racists and sexists. Americans who were against big government were portrayed as mean-spirited and uncaring. What talk radio and the massive expansion in non-traditional media have done is not only end the isolation, but more important, the silence amongst ordinary Americans.

Krugman says that what we’re witnessing is "political craziness." Therefore, the overwhelming majority of Americans who think our borders ought to be secure and think we should have the right to determine who enters our country are politically crazy. Americans who can find nothing in the U.S. Constitution granting Congress the power to take over our health care system are politically crazy. Americans who think a mosque should not be built in the shadows of the Muslim-destroyed World Trade Center are simply religious bigots. By the way, those who oppose the building are not saying there’s no legal or constitutional right to do so any more than they would say a person has no legal or constitutional right to curse his parents, but neither is a good idea. In Thomas Sowell’s column on the topic (Aug. 31), he reminds us that "If we all did everything that we have a legal right to do, we could not even survive as individuals, much less as a society."

Krugman predicts that political craziness, and by inference crazy Americans, will result in a Republican takeover of the House of Representatives and play chicken with the federal budget. Chicken with the budget is precisely what Defundit.org has called for. Already they’ve obtained the pledges of 165 congressional candidates not to fund any part of Obamacare.

While America’s liberal elite have not reached the depths of tyrants such as Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Hitler, they share a common vision and, as such, differ only in degree but not kind. Both denounce free markets and voluntary exchange. They are for control and coercion by the state. They believe they have superior wisdom to the masses and they have been ordained to forcibly impose that wisdom on the rest of us. They, like any other tyrant, have what they see as good reasons for restricting the freedom of others.

Their agenda calls for the elimination or attenuation of the market. Why? Free markets imply voluntary exchange. Tyrants do not trust that people behaving voluntarily will do what the tyrants think they should do. Therefore, they seek to replace the market with economic planning control and regulation.

Why liberalism has become an ugly sight, as Krauthammer claims, is because more and more Americans have wised up to their agenda.

The Democrat Plantation

by Richard Bernstein
09/13/2010

When black Americans' ancestors were enslaved in pre-Civil War America, they were compelled to live lives shaped by their masters. Uniformity was required, and disobedience was punished. As a result of this ongoing powerlessness, slaves developed what has been described as a "plantation mentality."

So what's changed? For an overwhelming majority of black Americans, nothing much. They still embrace a plantation mentality, but they've changed "masters:" from slave-owners to the Democratic Party.

Perhaps blind loyalty to a political party they perceive as their "protectors" is an inevitable consequence of black Americans' unique history. That such loyalty is to a Democrat party whoseown history is a tattered tale of segregation and racism is mind-boggling.

How many black Americans know Martin Luther King's battle to desegregate the South had him fighting Democrats, such as Georgia Gov. Lester Maddox, who refused to serve blacks in his restaurant in defiance of the 1964 Civil rights Act; Alabama Gov. George Wallace, who ended his 1962 gubernatorial victory speech with the phrase, "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever;" or Alabama Public Safety Commissioner Eugene "Bull" Connor, who prevented integration using attack dogs and fire hoses against protesters?

How many black Americans know the Republican Party was formed in 1854 as the anti-slavery party—even as Democrats founded the Ku Klux Klan in 1866? How many know President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, (who voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1957) along with his brother Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, had Martin Luther King wire-tapped by the FBI in the hope they could prove he was a Communist?

How many Americans of any ethnic persuasion know Martin Luther King was a Republican? How many know it was Republicans who established the NAACP?

Most historians consider the Civil Rights Act of 1964 a defining moment in black America's fight for equality. Because it was passed during the administration of Democratic President Lyndon Johnson, Democrats became known as party of de-segregation—even though a higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats voted in favor of the bill. And despite the reality that 23 Democratic senators filibustered the bill, trying to prevent its passage.

The same historians note that Republican Barry Goldwater's opposition to the bill was the turning point for many black Americans. In reality, Goldwater's opposition to the bill had nothing to doing with race—and everything to do with what he considered an "unlawful expansion" of federal power.

As far as the unlawful expansion of federal power goes, Goldwater has been thoroughly vindicated.

If black Americans wish to be Democrats, that is their choice—or is it? Despite the fact that Democrats enjoy the support of over 90% of black America, the other 10%, those who dare to "stray from the plantation," have been routinely vilified—by other black Americans. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been depicted as a lawn jockey, and former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, as a monkey and a parrot. Both, along with countless other non-Democrat blacks, have been referred to as "house niggers" or "Uncle Toms" for embracing conservative values.

The not-so-subtle message? Support liberal dogma—or face social ostracism.

Why the need to vilify the non-conformists? Ironically, the political party which portrays itself as the "champion of tolerance and freedom" knows that free-thinking black Americans represent a mortal threat to its power base. Democrats know that a failure to maintain the modern-day version of the plantation mentality—eternal victimhood caused by a hopelessly racist society which can only be alleviated by government hand-outs—would force them to compete for a bloc of voters they currently take for granted.

It would also cost Democrats a ton of money. Few things are more profitable than keeping the "racial grievance" industry alive. Thousands of Americans employed in jobs such as "promoting diversity," teaching "race sensitivity" classes, or maintaining quotas in employment, government-sponsored minority set-asides, and university admissions—every one of which is an extension of the liberal worldview—would be forced to look elsewhere for work.

In short, people judged by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin is a bridge too far for a Democrat party which does quite well promoting exactly the opposite. Far better for Democrats to tell black Americans that racism is "as bad as it's ever been"—even as they side-step their own party's historical involvement in it.

Yet at some point, black Americans might want to ask themselves:

If you've hitched yourselves to the Democrat party for 50-plus years, and racism is as bad as it's ever been, at what point do you hold Democrats accountable?

At what point do you leave the Democrat plantation behind?

Reaping the Whirlwind

By Lance Fairchok
"They sow the wind, and they reap the whirlwind." - Hosea 8:7

"Sooner or later in life, we all sit down to a banquet of consequences." - Robert Louis Stevenson

There is a sense of foreboding rising in this country. It is not the usual pessimism fueled by a sensational press, nor is it surfacing because of the political crisis machine that generates one drama after another by which to manipulate the electorate. It is a feeling of imminent danger fueled by a realization based on evidence so obvious and so startling that the citizenry cannot help but take notice. Our prosperity, our security, and even our safety are fast fading away. Our own president and his party are facilitating our demise.

The signs are everywhere.

Every new piece of backroom congressional legislation chips away at a few more freedoms, undermining our republic by preventing open and honest debate. Behind the scenes, Obama's henchmen wield sledgehammers against free commerce, gun ownership, freedom of speech, and energy. The billions in taxpayer money going to leftist and socialist organizations cement their toxic influence into the very fabric of our government. The corruption and fraud of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are obvious examples, but there are thousands more. Unions, "community organizations," far-left causes, anti-American ideologues, socialist fifth columnists, environmental radicals, open borders fanatics, Mexican irredentist revolutionaries, Islamists, terror-supporters, and professed communists all prosper from Obama's destructive largesse.

The Mexican war with its drug cartels escalates. Brutal massacres and car bombings are killing innocents just miles from our southern states. Surpassing war-torn Iraq, 28,000 have died since 2006. The butchers responsible pass with impunity into our territory. In their own country, they murder police, the press, and innocent citizens. They torture, they behead, they kill the families of their enemies.

Our government stubbornly refuses to stop them and pretends to be working diligently on the problem. It is a lie. They persecute police officers who enforce the law and sue states that attempt to stem the crippling illegal immigrant tide. The jackals that tortured and killed 72 unarmed migrants are already here; the violence we see south of the border will soon follow. Americans will die. Obama does nothing.

Illegal immigrants cost border states billions -- in law enforcement, in social services, in education, and in emergency medical services. Arizona has asked for National Guard troops, the situation has become so untenable. There is little hope the problem will abate. Mexico is so corrupt; any effective countermeasures are undermined before they begin. NARCO dollars buy police, prosecutors, judges, and the army. The poison spreads.

Drug cartels control swaths of U.S. territory. Instead of action, Arizona got signs.

... the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has placed 15 signs along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 that links San Diego with Phoenix and Tucson warning travelers of drug cartels and human trafficking operations.

"DANGER - PUBLIC WARNING, TRAVEL NOT RECOMMENDED," read the signs placed along Interstate 8. "Visitors May Encounter Armed Criminals and Smuggling Vehicles Traveling at High Rates of Speed. Stay Away From Trash, Clothing, Backpacks, and Abandoned Vehicles."

A couple of weeks ago, thirty National Guard troops showed up for border duty; Arizona asked for three thousand. In a move designed to fail, administration talking heads can now claim there is Guard support for border enforcement. It is another trick, another betrayal of a beleaguered state, and normal operations for our anti-American president and his cabal of "progressive" academics.

Obama's exploding national deficits are sucking the lifeblood from our economy. In the name of "social justice," they deconstruct what has taken generations of sacrifice and toil to build. We spend what we do not have like a drunk on a binge. When that horrendous bill is due, our children and grandchildren will pay in a far less significant America than we know today.

Every jobs report is a "surprise" of increasing unemployment, the real level of which is around 22 percent, not the 9.5-percent fiction the Obama administration touts. Great-Depression levels of unemployment do not support the "recovery summer" propaganda. Teen unemployment is at levels above 25 percent as adults take jobs traditionally filled by teens. Americans are not fooled by the government spin; they see the evidence every day.

They see empty stores, shuttered gas stations, small businesses closing shop. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "... 4.3 million businesses with 19 or fewer employees closed during the fourth quarter of 2007 through the fourth quarter of 2008." The numbers are now much higher, though exact numbers have become strangely difficult to find. If bank closures are any indicator, Mom & Pop businesses are in deep trouble. Loans to small businesses have dropped by 40 billion dollars. The lifeblood of American commerce, small business employs half of all workers in the country. They are the source of the innovative energy that once made our economy so exceptional. Once Obama's and the Democrats' new taxes and hidden "fees" kick in after 2011, the problem will explode. Ideology never runs an economy well, but it does blind its true believers to the consequences of their actions.

But it gets much, much worse.

Iran now has a viable nuclear program. With the support of Russia and North Korea, they claim their reactors are for purely peaceful purposes. The Obama administration has tried to convince Israel it will be at least a year until a nuclear weapon can be produced. Obama's Nuclear Proliferation Czar, Gary Samore, tells us, "We think that they have roughly a year dash time" and "[a] year is a very long period of time," kicking the problem down the road -- a road that grows shorter each passing day.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad frequently talks of wiping Israel off the map. He is a fanatic who takes the Quran's injunction to kill Jews very seriously. If we are to believe his own words, he plans to do just that, through Hezbollah, through Syria, and eventually with a nuclear weapon. Whether Israel or the United States will be the first target is a coin toss. We will be attacked. It is just a matter of time.

D.C. Democrats: Clueless, Condescending & Costly

NEW YORK — Why are Americans enraged? As this moribund economy limps through the third year of doldrums, Americans are sick of having their hard-earned money swiped by Washington, D.C.’s Democrat-dominated political class, which is clueless, condescending, and invariably costly.

Why "Blacks" and "Latinos" Would Want To Vote Conservative

By:  Dennis Marcellino

(I put “Blacks” and “Latinos” in quotes because it feels disrespectful … and it’s actually racist, divisive and un-American … to identify people by the color of their skin. But for the purpose of statistical analysis and identifying a racist problem in our country, I’ll use those terms here.)

How is it possible that two groups who have historical legacies of being religious could vote in elections overwhelmingly for the political party that promotes and legalizes “sin” (homosexuality, abortion, taking God out of the mainstream, etc.) – the Democrats? Blacks have consistently voted in the 90% range for Democrats, and Latinos have voted in the 60-70% range.

The answer to this question can be found in a great statement made recently by Glenn Beck. He said, When somebody has an agenda, they don’t want to hear the truth.” That is, they let their dominant agenda trump any other agenda they might have. In this case, blacks and Latinos are letting their racial identity trump their religious identity. He also said that when this is the case, the more radical are even sometimes given to “lying, stealing and cheating” to advance their agenda. (More “sins”.) And if someone isn’t representing the truth, they automatically are in lies (untruths).

Some of the groups that have at least some agendas and ideologies not based on truth would be: liberals, racists, feminists, hedonists, homosexuals, environmentalists, political parties, various religions/denominations, secularists, various addictions – including blind addiction to happiness and pleasure, and various personal agendas that aren’t in harmony with nature as designed by its Creator.

A problem with people who have agendas (as the Glenn Beck quote stated) is that they are hard to reason with because based on the tenets of their agenda, they allow a blind, knee-jerk, lock step loyalty to those tenets to overrule their ability to reason, as they just parrot the sound bites of those tenets. And the fact that they often use name-calling and emotion to push those sound bites and silence their opponents implicitly says that they don’t have enough confidence in the tenets of the agenda or ideology that they are aligning with to be able to calmly and intelligently present and defend them.

The particular focus here in this writing is a focus on two groups (“blacks” and “Latinos”) whose self-proclaimed leaders and people who find their primary identity in them have generally statistically adhered to certain agendas, one of which is: voting for Democrats. Also included in this focus are the liberals (and especially the radical ones) who have used these groups to promote the liberal agenda.

By the way, as a side note, if the “racist” accusation is going to be loosely thrown around (as is being done these days), it needs to be recognized that the groups who are most guilty of doing this are the finger pointers of racism: liberals and blacks. And that conclusion is based on the very definition of racism … which is a violation of Dr. Martin Luther King’s definition, which is: noticing the color of a person’s skin instead of noticing their individual character. And in a truly color blind society, a person’s race never needs to be mentioned or addressed, (unless it is done in a positive way … that is, mentioning the positive contributions to humankind in general that have come out of various cultures …for example, I love Mexican food and some of the music that has come out of black religious traditions).

So, if the above-mentioned groups have agendas that have tenets that are not within THE truth … what is THE truth? The basic truth behind this life and its mysteries is that there is a Creator of it and that Creator gave us the Bible as a direct communication to let us know what the mysteries behind this life are, what the optimum ways to approach life are, and what determines our destinies (both eternal and here on Earth). That conclusion has been proven to be true in the book THE PROOF that God exists and the Bible is true.

In that book are cited many examples of how following the Bible to the letter has proven to be the most effective, rewarding and harmonious way to approach a society or a personal life.

An example of the good that can happen when changing a society's rules to be more in line with the Bible is the remarkable transformation of the city of Shimabuku, Japan. Shimabuku was rediscovered by American GIs during WWII, 30 years after the Bible was presented to them by an American missionary, who convinced them to adopt the Ten Commandments as Shimabuku’s legal code and the Sermon on the Mount as their guide to social conduct. Nurtured on the Bible, a whole generation of Shimabukans had drawn from it their ideas of human dignity and of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. The result was remarkable. Shimabuku for years had no jail, no brothel, no drunkenness, no divorce; and there was a high level of health and happiness. The Bible was referred to to solve any problem that came up. (That is what I did/do in my life too, which has been the exact thing that changed my life for the better).

The bottom line here … and an appeal to any open-minded or religious liberals, blacks and Latinos in this important election year … is to recognize that liberalism is a bad choice for two reasons: (1) It has never worked, but instead has created chaos and grief, both spiritually/experientially and economically (and the current administration is severely hurting the economy by mounting great debts and causing jobs to be lost), and (2) It is against what is in the Bible.

On a more ominous note here is what the Bible says about those who vote for people who promote and legalize sin. (And the Bible says that wisdom begins with a fear of God.)

People are offending God by voting for the proponents of sin (liberals). They also are putting themselves in jeopardy with God. Romans 1:32, “Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them” (for one, by how they vote). And the “things” being spoken of in that verse are spelled out right before that verse and are common tenets in liberalism and secularism. Romans 1:25//31, “Who changed the truth of God into a lie; and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator. For this reason God gave them up to vile lusts; for both their females changed the natural use of their bodies into that which is unnatural; likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.” (e.g. AIDS.) “Unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, void of understanding, faithless.” And 2Thessalonians 2:12 says, “that all who have not believed the truth but have approved wrongdoing” (by how they vote) “may be condemned.”

Some might view some of these statements by God and some of my statements as harsh. And if they are in one of the liberal agenda groups I mentioned they might even feel attacked. But then again, others might see these statements in the Bible and by me as giving them an opportunity to finally and completely identify with goodness and righteousness. I know for me, a key Bible revelation that got me to convert from being a wimpy liberal who overlooked most sin, into becoming a Christian, was the reality that the Bible says that God “hates” sin and it makes Him very angry. It made me see that deep down I too hated sin and it made me angry, but was too intimidated by my liberal peers to allow myself to see that. I really hated the fact that I and nearly all of my liberal friends were having broken relationships, addictions and lack of deep fulfillment and peace because of liberal ways. It was very liberating for me to see that though my feelings weren’t in line with my liberal friends, they were with an almighty and all good Creator of the universe and me … and who would have the final say over my eternal destiny and my peace on Earth. And it was exhilarating to discover that God had given perfect instructions in the Bible on how I should conduct my life so it would be sinless and in good harmony with my mind/heart/body/spirit, others and God. And I tried them and they worked. I didn’t want to just be “loved” or “understood” as to why I was taking a dysfunctional approach … I just wanted to get on with knowing THE truth and the optimum ways to approach inner and outer life. Taking that new approach allowed a long lost strength in me to emerge. And I became much happier and energized because of it. So basically, I was converted by truth and righteousness, not love or sympathy. The love came later, both from God and the community that I could now feel a part of because we were seeing the same thing: that the optimum way to approach life is to submit our lives to obedience to a holy God, whose rules we had a strong hunger to continually come to know (and still do) through study of the Bible He gave us.

THE ENEMY WITHIN

July 29, 2010

The Sun Journal

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:The Enemy within

In last Sundays Letter to the Editor, a resident liberal walked us through the Tea Party connection to GOP contributors. What we need to do is take a closer look at is who supports the left wing of the Democratic Party. Allow me to introduce you to MoveOn.org.

MoveOn was launched on September 22, 1998 as a web-based, grassroots political network that organizes “electronic advocacy groups” of online activists around specific issues, generates political ads and works to win young recruits through its appeal to the Net-savvy, MTV subculture. Today, MoveOn boasts an email list of more than 3.2 million members. So where does the money come from to run an organization this size?

MoveOn has received financial support from numerous leftist organizations, including George Soros’s Open Society, the Tides Foundation and the Shefa Fund, to name just a few. Another supporter, Wesley Boyd and his wife Joan Blades, who had earned a fortune with their software company Berkeley Systems joined with George Soros after a meeting in September of 2003 and gave MoveOn 6.2 million over a six month period. The contributions included $2.5 million from George Soros personally; an avowed Socialist.

Shefa's areas of funding included social and economic justice; community and economic development; feminism and gender issues, which included Jewish feminist educational curricula; minority rights and entitlements; Middle East peace and economic development; the transformation of Jewish life, including youth funding and projects relating to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues. Shefa also funded and promoted voting rights for all immigrants regardless of citizenship status.

"Social Justice" is a code phrase of the left, which believes that such justice can only be achieved by the recognition that capitalism and the economic inequality it produces must be replaced by a "classless" society wherein all differences in wealth and property have been eliminated. For me the choice is simple; I am a Tea Party supporter as most of you have been all our lives. I say this because in your heart, like me, you carry a love for this great Country that has achieved great things through freedom. Like me, you believe in our Constitution and the protections it provides. But make no mistake; our Constitution is under attack, not by some foreign power but by the enemies within our own borders.

In order to insure a future for our children and grandchildren, in this freedom living Country we call home, we must stand for the hard right against the easy wrong. That stand starts in November, 2010.

Nowicki: Jim Deakin may play spoiler in GOP Senate race

by Dan Nowicki, columnist - Jul. 18, 2010 12:00 AM

The Arizona Republic

Supporters of Hayworth, a former Arizona congressman and radio talk-show host, have long clamored for Deakin to step aside so as not to split the anti-McCain vote. On Thursday,William Gheen, president of the national group Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee, or ALIPAC, stepped up the pressure, publicly calling on Deakin to drop out or else risk becoming known as the "political spoiler" who helped McCain win the Aug. 24 primary. ALIPAC, which opposes illegal immigration, has endorsed Hayworth and donated money to his campaign.  (Read more)

How Obama Bungled the Oil Spill: An Inside Story -- UNBELIEVABLE!

by Dick Morris, 06/30/2010
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=37796

It's one thing to say that President Obama's administration showed its ineptitude and mismanagement in its handling of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. It is quite another to grasp the situation up close, as I did during a recent visit to Alabama.

According to state disaster relief officials, Alabama conceived a plan -- early on -- to erect huge booms offshore to shield the approximately 200 miles of its coastline from oil. Rather than install the relatively light and shallow booms in use elsewhere, the state (with assistance from the Coast Guard) canvassed the world and located enough huge, heavy booms -- some weighing tons and seven meters high -- to guard its coast.

But ... no sooner were the booms in place than the Coast Guard, perhaps under pressure from the public comments of James Carville, uprooted them and moved them to guard the Louisiana coastline, instead.

So, Alabama decided on a backup plan. It would buy snare booms to catch the oil as it began to wash up on the beaches.

But ... the Fish and Wildlife Administration vetoed the plan saying it would endanger sea turtles that nest on the beaches.

So, Alabama -- ever resourceful -- decided to hire 400 workers to patrol the beaches in person scooping up oil that had washed ashore.

But ... OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Agency) refused to allow them to work more than 20 minutes out of every hour and required an hour-long break after 40 minutes of work, so the cleanup proceeded at a very slow pace.

The short answer is that every agency -- each with its own particular bureaucratic agenda -- was able to veto each aspect of any plan to fight the spill with the unintended consequence that nothing stopped the oil from destroying hundreds of miles of wetlands, habitats, beaches, fisheries and recreational facilities.

Where was the president? Why did he not intervene in these and countless other bureaucratic controversies to force a focus on the oil, not on the turtles and other incidental concerns.

According to Alabama Gov. Bob Reilly, the administration's "lack of ability has become transparent" in its handling of the oil spill. He notes that one stellar exception has been Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, without whom, he says, nothing whatever would have gotten done.

Eventually, the state stopped listening to federal agencies and just has gone ahead and given funds directly to the local folks fighting the spill rather than paying attention to the directives of the Unified Command. Apparently, there is a world of difference between the competence of the Coast Guard and the superb and efficient regular Navy and military.

Now, the greatest crisis of all looms on the horizon, as hurricanes sweep into the gulf. Should one hit offshore, it will destroy all the booms that have been placed to stop the oil from reaching shore. And there are no more booms anywhere in the world, according to Alabama disaster relief officials.

The political impact of this incompetence has only just begun to be felt. While administration operatives are flying high after a week in which the president's ratings rebounded to 49 percent in Rasmussen after his firing of Gen. McChrystal, the oil is still gushing and the situation is about to worsen.

The obvious fact is that Obama has no executive experience, and neither do any of his top advisors. Without a clear mandate from the top, needed efforts to salvage the situation are repeatedly stymied by well meaning bureaucrats strictly following the letter of their agency policy and federal law. The result, ironically, of their determined efforts to protect the environment has been the greatest environmental disaster in history. But some turtles are OK!
