NAPOLITANO: Congress’ unconscionable silence at president’s power grabs--Obama becomes imperial president without Republican resistance

Washington Times, by Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, February 19, 2014

The political philosopher Edmund Burke once remarked that all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good folks to do nothing.

A glaring example of the impending triumph of a constitutional evil that could be stopped by folks who have been largely silent is the tyranny coming from the White House. The folks who can stop this and are doing nothing about it are our elected representatives in Congress.
The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It established the three branches of government, and it delegated “all legislative powers” to Congress.

American law rarely uses the word “all.” Yet the Framers chose that word precisely to confine the writing of law to Congress and to prevent a president from altering federal law by the selective manner of law enforcement and thereby effectively rewriting it.

The Framers sought to guard against the same evils by compelling the president to swear at the commencement of his terms in office that he will “faithfully” enforce the laws.

ZoNation: Conservative Blacks are Mouth-Pieces According to William Barber

William Barber, Director of the North Carolina Chapter of the NAACP, accuses conservatives of color of being mouth pieces for the GOP. He somehow over looks the big...really big, mouth piece he is, for the Democrat Party.

The Nation: A State of Non-existence

Tuesday, January 7, 2014, Christian Mercenary

It is my opinion that there is no way to vote one's way out of the current political situation. I make this statement recognizing that there are those who will continue to seek a political (peaceful) solution to the current political situation until the very moment they are dispatched at the edge of a large pit filled with their neighbors and loved ones.

One must understand the political situation as it exists. There is no reverence for the Constitution, the only thing that decides who does and who does not wield the power and authority the citizens have placed in the government. There is a means by which to elect representatives, but representatives and senators who refuse to obey their oaths of office, who turn a blind eye to abuses of power and outright usurpation of their own powers can not be functioning as representatives or senators and therefore, whether duly elected or not, are traitors and subversives.

There are no separation of powers, no equality of governmental branches. There is a president acting wholly outside the Constitution, usurping and abusing power without limit or consequence. Once the Supreme Court signed off on Obamacare, it effectively ruled that whatever the government wishes shall be done. The decision, in that case, was so sloppy and contradictory that it demonstrated an absolute disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, stare decisis and any number of other judicial instruments of justice.

The system is broken. It is no longer a system of government at all, but rather a system of power.

Defending Conservative Principles--Walter B. Jones

January 9, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) is pleased to announce that for 2013 he was ranked the most conservative member of the North Carolina congressional delegation by leading grassroots conservative organization FreedomWorks.

“Defending America’s principles of freedom is my greatest privilege and responsibility as a member of the House of Representatives,” said Congressman Jones.  “Moving into 2014, I will continue to oppose unconstitutional government overreach and infringement on our liberties.”

Congressman Jones earned a near-perfect score on 21 key votes in 2013 that FreedomWorks identified as displaying a commitment to “fighting for lower taxes, less government and more freedom.”

FreedomWorks recognized Congressman Jones for his votes to stop raising the debt limit, to cut wasteful government spending, to repeal and defund Obamacare, and to prevent the federal government from spying on U.S. citizens without a warrant, among other things.  You can view the entire 2013 scorecard for North Carolina members of the U.S. House of Representatives here.

Thank you for taking the time to read about some of Congressman Jones' work for the Third District.  For daily updates, please follow him on Facebook and Twitter. To contact him or learn more about the services provided by his office, please visit his web site.

2014: The Resurgence of the Tea Party

Posted by Lloyd Marcus on January 5, 2014

It is not looking good for the Tea Party and our efforts to restore America in 2014. The Obama Administration, mainstream media, major liberal advocacy groups and the GOP establishment have launched an extremely well-funded war against us.

So, how do we compete?

Answer: We do what we did in 2010. The Bible says one will put a thousand to flight, but two will put 10,000 to flight. (Deut. 32:30) In other words, when we are united our power and effectiveness increases exponentially. The 2010 Republican sweep of the elections driven by the Tea Party confirms this truth.

#NCSEN Brannon: Stop hijacking the term ‘conservative’

Note:  CCTA is a non partisan organization.  We do not endorse any particular candidate or political party.  News items are presented for you the reader to help you become informed and reach your own conclusions.

Cary physician Greg Brannon, Tea Party favorite and one of the leading contenders for the GOP nomination for US Senate, told a Moore County audience last night about one of his pet peeves:

”Boy, this word ‘conservative’ is quite popular.  Every election year, you see and hear it all over the place.  A lot of people on the campaign trail talk about how conservative they are. But after they get elected, they forget about all of that stuff.  Thom Tillis has the word ‘conservative’ all over his campaign literature and web site.  But he’s voted for and supported toll roads, government-funded light rail, mandates and common core.  If that’s what passes for conservative these days, count me out.  My view on conservatism is one of strict adherence to The Constitution as well as stripping power from the government and giving it back to the people.”

Brannon also showed some skepticism about Tillis’ claims of being a fighter against ObamaCare in the legislature:

“Sure, the general assembly blocked the establishment of a state exchange.  But due to a lack of familiarity with The Constitution, they left the door open for federal exchanges.  Legislatures in Alabama and South Carolina passed laws making it illegal for anyone to come into their states and try to implement ObamaCare. If those states could do that, why couldn’t our leaders here in North Carolina do the same? Stopping short in the fight against ObamaCare allowed the feds to come in here, get ObamaCare rolling, force average premiums to increase 300 percent, and cause a whole lot of people to lose their insurance. Our legislators owe the people of North Carolina a good explanation as to why they stopped short of finishing that fight.”

IL Common Core School Assignment Requires Parents to Self-Identify as Conservative or Liberal

A recent Common Core assignment sent home from an Oak Forest, Illinois high school requires parents to self-identify as conservative or liberal.

An assignment sent home from an Oak Forest, IL high school government class is raising eyebrows among parents who are shocked by the questionnaire they and their children are required to fill out. The questionnaire (below) has the parents identify their positions on a number of highly-charged issues, and then places them on a “political spectrum.”
The survey is part of Oak Forest High School’s Common Core curriculum, which according is to …”provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them.”

The Socialist Mind Game: A Brief Manual

We are being played; it's time we learned the game.

Conservatives have their Constitution. Progressives have their Narrative. The current battle for America is between these two concepts, and each side uses different rules to fight it.

One set of rules is consistent with an unchanging objective: limited government and individual freedoms. The other side's rules are as fickle as their goals, which are never fully disclosed beyond the equivocal references to fairness and hyphenated forms of justice. They will have to remain vague and deny their true allegiances until a time when American voters will no longer squirm at the word "socialism."

And yet spotting them isn't that hard. As a bird is known by his feathers, socialists are known by their Game.

First tried and mastered in the USSR, the Game has since been popularized around the world, assuming various forms, names, and colors -- from red to brown to green. It is now taking hold in the United States under the blue web banners of Obama's campaign infomercials.

The laws of society and human nature are such that socialism can only be achieved through a certain sequence of steps and manipulations. For instance, the only way to attain material equality is to confiscate someone's property and give it to others. That necessitates a centralized mechanism of coercion, redistribution, and control. Such a system gives extraordinary corrupting powers to a small centralized elite, while turning the rest of the citizenry into a compliant, obsequious herd.

Beaufort Observer, Letter to the Editor: CCTA Chairman, Nancy Murdoch

Beaufort Observer

A frequent liberal writer recently asked: "If not Obama, who?"

As a conservative, I often find myself voting for the lesser of two evils, and this election cycle proves to be no differently. How did a country founded on the idea of personal freedom allow the government to have more power than any individual? How did we lose the idea of personal responsibility and replace it with the Marxist ideas of the collective? How did we reach the place where almost half of the country relies on the government for their welfare? Why have we lost the pioneer spirit and replaced it with an entitlement mentality, and why do so many Americans find that acceptable?

Even though there are many contributing factors I believe the major one is education. Up until the early 1900's our citizens revered, studied and understood our Founding documents and our Founders. (Now even our elected officials have little knowledge about the Constitution, and most of our citizens believe all the Founders were rich, slave-owning white men.)

In 1905, Harry W. Laidler and Norman Thomas met with 100 people in NY and established the Intercollegiate Socialist Society (ISS), establishing chapters in colleges and universities. Laider stated the aim was "to throw light on the world-wide movement of industrial democracy known as socialism". Members of the government, press, radio and motion picture industry were among the early recruits.

The first president who openly reviled the Constitution was Woodrow Wilson. He also introduced the phrase "make the world safe for democracy". (Find the word democracy in the Constitution...it's not there, nor in our pledge of allegiance.) Soon the press and schoolbooks began referring to America as a democracy.

Due to the conflicts in Russia (USSR) the word socialism fell out of favor, so in typical fashion the name of the ISS was changed to The League for Industrial Democracy. Their slogan: "Production for use, not for profit". The use of the word democracy became so common that in 1928 the U.S. Army's Training Manual published a section explaining the difference between democracy and a republic. Apparently few read the manual or the people who needed to read it, did not.

The progressives and socialists have been working to dismantle our Founding documents for over 100 years. Many Americans are angry, and intend to fight the Federal propaganda network, known as the education system. We believe all Americans deserve the freedoms promised in the Declaration of Independence.

TEA PARTY NATION--The Tea Party is Dead! Long Live the Tea Party

Posted by J. Andrew Reid on January 13, 2012 at 11:09am

Many left wing rags, including the mainstream media which more and more fits that description, have been reporting the demise of the Tea Party while touting the rise of the 99% crowd otherwise known as Occupy ___________ (fill in the blank with any city in the US).

Before you waste one moment of your time worrying about the demise of the Tea Party or conservatism please take the source of these articles into account. When did we start taking The Huffington Post seriously? This is the crowd that only feels they are getting their point across when they can talk over you. They do not have a defensible platform on which to present their case so they cannot allow you to challenge them. When they are losing they respond by trying to convince folks that there is no point in listening to you because you represent a shrinking minority espousing stale ideas or that your crowd is full of bigots, homophobes, Islamophobes, racists, one percenters, Uncle Toms, or anything else they can think of. Some of the 99% are just out of work graduates who, when they figure out the extent to which they have been duped, will be in Washington protesting the real reason for their problems.

Has anyone noticed that a large portion of Ron Paul supporters are young people? Many are so fed up with the current state of affairs that they want the pendulum to swing to whomever is the opposite of Barack Obama. This election cycle Ron Paul is that person. I am not endorsing Ron Paul but I am saying this should tell us something.

Conservatism is not on the wane but is gaining in popularity with those who are truly educated about the current state of our country. Every day more and more people are coming to the conclusion that conservatism is the only answer. This is the reason that Democrat and Republican registrations are down and those declaring that they are Independents is on the rise. Truly educated people know that Democrats are more liberal than most Republicans but they also know that many Republicans are too liberal to be called conservatives and that this is the reason we are in our present deplorable condition.
This situation is why there is a Tea Party. Many of the folks who post comments here are trying to educate themselves so that they can do what is necessary to get the "Ship of State" back on the course set by this country's founders. The "Ship of State" is a huge vessel and cannot be turned on a dime. Many here find this to be frustrating because they want to make dramatic changes that will restore this country to the founders vision now.

I share in this frustration but we must not be discouraged and need to realize that the same thing that is preventing us from getting the real conservative candidate we want and correcting all of the things we know need fixing is what will ultimately save us from Barack Obama. He too is frustrated because, though he can inflict much damage, the Ship of State is too large for a one term president to scuttle or even to make a sharp left turn with. This being said, it is important to realize that Obama has managed to get us pretty far off course to the left and, given a second term, could do irreparable harm so we must do whatever is needed to be sure that he is not re-elected.

KEN BLACKWELL: A 2012 Conservative Case for America's Future

1/3/2012

Editors' note: this column was co-authored by Ken Klukowski

The United States is at a fork in the road regarding which way we will go as a people. The 2012 election could be the most important in our lifetime, and conservative leaders have reached a consensus on how to channel the energy and concerns of the American people to realize historic change this year.

The status quo will not survive the year. Our debt and spending have reached catastrophic proportions in the context of global financial difficulties and political upheaval. Consequently, by the end of 2012, America will either have taken a decisive step toward socialistic collectivism in the name of “equality” and “social justice,” where businesses and owners are punitively taxed to “pay their fair share,” or America will take a major step in the direction of returning to our Founders’ constitutional government, restoring the rule of law, federalism, free enterprise, and individual initiative and responsibility.

The American people will decide which path to take in the 2012 elections, not only in the general election on November 6 but also in the nominating process in primaries over the next several months for all major offices, including the presidency. Conservatives must act in a concerted and informed fashion in all of these contests to shape the public dialogue and thoroughly vet the candidates.

To achieve these ends, top conservative leaders acting under the umbrella of the Conservative Action Project have released “A Conservative Consensus for 2012” announcing agreement on major policies. These issues span all three wings of the conservative movement: economic, social, and national security.

The Conservative Consensus speaks to economic issues of fundamental tax reform, Obamacare, overhauling regulation, and energy production. It tackles social issues of strengthening families and advocating traditional values and religious liberty. And it covers defense issues of protecting the homeland, military superiority, and national sovereignty.

This document also advocates specific issues all conservatives must regard as essential. America needs a strong Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that caps federal spending. Immediate and drastic cuts to the federal budget. No corporate bailouts. The Second Amendment right to bear arms is a fundamental right, as is voting, so the ballot box must be protected from fraud and corruption. Because voting is also a citizen’s duty, reasonable conditions must be enacted to safeguard our democratic process. And none of these can succeed unless the right people are appointed as judges to our federal courts.

Achieving these goals is a tremendous challenge, and true constitutional conservatives must relentlessly pursue building a true coalition between the three wings of the conservative movement.

This means that true conservatives must not allow anyone to redefine conservatism as only about fiscal issues and the reach of government. Constitutional conservatives understand that strong families are the essential foundation for long-term economic prosperity. The demographic reality is that declining birth rates and rampant abortion creates a devastating loss of human capital that cannot sustain our entitlement systems or economic growth, and also result in millions of unfilled job positions that become a magnet for illegal immigration.

Fortunately most conservatives understand that national security is crucial to America’s success. But some wrongheaded individuals seek to silence or marginalize social issues, oblivious to the profound reality—proven throughout history—that where families crumble there is an unstoppable public outcry for government to fill the void with massive entitlements and programs. Government always grows when families fail.

Some economic leaders with libertarian or liberal beliefs fail to grasp this simple fact, and so pervert the concept of freedom to mean that individuals are free to do whatever they like, free of any concept of right-and-wrong or of personal responsibility or self-control. They willfully ignore our Founding Fathers, who believed that limited government only endures when individuals govern themselves.

Some social conservative leaders are making the same mistake. They were right to reject an unrealistic “truce” on social issues. But some are essentially calling for a truce on economic issues, supporting candidates who stand for traditional values but are not reliably conservative on limiting the size, scope, and cost of government.

While both social and economic issues are indispensable, and both move votes, the reality is that fiscal issues are moving more swing votes in this cycle than value issues. Social conservatives will overreach if they force voters to choose between the two by insisting on traditionalist candidates who are not also warriors for free markets, federalism, fundamental entitlement reform, and a strong Balanced Budget Amendment. Social conservatives must demand equal standing, not superior standing.

A perfect example where all three branches of conservatism can join forces is our national debt. America is now $15 trillion in debt, an unprecedented level exceeding 100% of our Gross Domestic Product. The only time we even approached such a proportion was the end of World War II, where we were in a global war that threatened our very survival as a nation. Instead of a temporary military emergency, our current debt is being fueled by deficits of over $1 trillion every year Barack Obama has been president.

In addition to an economic issue, this debt is a social issue. Our profligate spending is intergenerational theft, saddling each member of the next generation with over $120,000 in debt once they become taxpayers. That’s a mortgage on a house, with no house.

It is also a defense issue. The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said our national debt is the single greatest threat to national security. We are on track to be paying $600 billion per year just in interest on the national debt, more than our entire military and security budget. This hamstrings our ability to defend our nation today while developing weapons and systems to protect us tomorrow.

Another reality is that constitutional conservatism cannot become our national policy without all three branches of government. If conservatives retake both houses of Congress it can only block bad legislation. Without a two-thirds supermajority, conservatives in Congress cannot override presidential vetoes of good legislation or undo harmful administrative regulations through the Congressional Review Act.

We need a constitutional conservative in the White House. Not all Republicans are part of the solution, and some leading Republicans are even part of the problem. America needs a president who is reliable on fiscal issues, and social issues, and defense issues. Two out of three is not enough. Ronald Reagan was all three, and only a Republican solid on all three bases can pick up President Reagan’s mantle to lead this country through the daunting challenges we face.

THE MORNING BELL: New Year's Resolutions for Conservatives

The key to keeping your New Year's resolutions is to make them more realistic. Rather than try to drastically change the way you live, why not start with the more modest goal of changing the way you speak? And what better place to start for conservatives than with America's Founding principles?

As conservatives continue to rediscover the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, it is important to use words and embrace ideas that are consistent with our Founding principles.

If you're fond of the term "states' rights," have a soft spot for nullification, are tempted by isolationism or are wary of equality, here are four simple resolutions to begin getting right with America's principles. Once you have these down, you can start correcting your friends and move on to other core concepts.

THE BLAZE: Is Santorum Starting to ‘Catch Fire’ in Iowa?

In a presidential campaign marked by sharp rises and falls, Republican Rick Santorum has experienced neither.

“I’m counting on the people of Iowa to catch fire for me,” the former Pennsylvania senator, who described himself as a “strong conviction conservative,” said Thursday during a debate with his rivals. “Iowans are beginning to respond.”

His dogged courting of Iowans the old-fashioned way — campaigning in living rooms, coffee shops and town squares — may be starting to pay off and at just the right time, as Iowa’s Jan. 3 presidential caucuses approach.

“Rick Santorum is the best-kept secret in the campaign,” said Tom Clark, a West Des Moines Republican and one of about 150 people who came to hear the candidate at a suburban Des Moines restaurant this past week. Clark left the event as a Santorum supporter prepared to volunteer for him, despite this concern: “I just don’t know if he can win.”

That worry could be why Santorum remains near the back of the pack in national GOP surveys. He also trails former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul in Iowa even though he has been the most aggressive campaigner in the leadoff caucus state. He’s visited all 99 counties and held 350 campaign events.

Santorum acknowledges that not all gatherings have been as lively as the recent one at the Machine Shed restaurant in Urbandale.
