You Can’t Trust Washington on Immigration

Obama has “already circumvented immigration law with respect to large numbers of unlawful immigrants already in the country.”

Heritage Foundation,  Amy Payne, February 7, 2014

President Obama can’t be trusted to enforce U.S. laws—and that makes many lawmakers hesitant to pass new immigration laws.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said yesterday that this was proving to be a roadblock:

Listen, there’s widespread doubt about whether this administration can be trusted to enforce our laws. And it’s going to be difficult to move any immigration legislation until that changes.

Just How Many Illegal Aliens Are Here, and Who the Hell Are They?

Before considering amnesty, Government needs to determine how many illegals are here, what medical, criminal, financial, social questions must be answered before anyone is allowed to bypass the rule of law

Canada Free Press, By John Lillpop, February 1, 2014

As the Republican party continues to abandon the American people by morphing into a far-left wing of the Democrat Party on issues like immigration, many important questions about illegals are not being asked, to the potential detriment of American citizens.

For example, conventional wisdom(?) is that there are 11 million illegals in America.  That number has been bandied about for years, with little or no substantiation.

However, if the government’s ability to estimate is anything as pathetic as we have seen with ObamaCare, one can reasonably expect that there are many, many more illegals here than the Democrats are claiming.

Then, the question not being asked is: Who in the hell are these people?

Boehner sets immigration debate, but polls show growing public opposition

GOP leaders are finalizing plans for an open debate on immigration to be held by legislators at their late January closed-door strategy session in Cambridge, Md.

The debate will include a panel of legislators, an outside expert, and an open mic, allowing members to comment on a one-page set of “principles” that likely will be released at the event, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The format will put Speaker of the House John Boehner and immigration advocate Rep. Paul Ryan in the driver’s seat. But a new poll that shows increased voter hostility to an amnesty is highlighting the difficulty that they face in trying to satisfy both their November voters and their business donors.

SEE THE SCATHING LETTER GOP LAWMAKERS SENT TO OBAMA ON IMMIGRATION

(Walter B. Jones IS among the signors.)

Sixteen GOP lawmakers warned President Obama in a letter delivered Thursday that they “reject” his call for the House to pass an immigration reform bill, which they say will displace tens of millions of American workers who are already struggling to keep a part time job, reduce wages and affect tens of millions more who are unemployed.

Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks spearheaded the letter, along with 15 other members, saying the Senate’s immigration overhaul will give permanent residency to over 30 million immigrants in the next decade, adding in the letter  that the “so-called comprehensive immigration reform may be a good deal for big businesses who want to reduce labor costs, and it may be a good deal for progressive labor unions seeking new workers from abroad, but it’s an awful deal for U.S. workers – including African-American and Hispanic communities enduring chronically high unemployment.”

Immigration Activists and Concerned Citizens,

A number of big donors, large cheap labor industry groups, and some conservative groups masquerading as truly being concerned for the USA have been running ads in the media and want an amnesty for illegal immigrants, a doubling of current legal immigration from one million persons per year to two million plus, and pretend this is going to be a wonderful thing for the USA.

The high-tech industry, the United Nations Chamber of Commerce (formerly the US Chamber of Commerce), the Koch Brothers affiliates, Americans for a Conservative Direction (funded in large part by Mark Zuckerburg of Facebook who funneled big bucks to Obama) and other groups have been paying for media spots on radio and TV to support mass immigration and amnesty.  Ask yourself whey these groups would spend big bucks on radio and TV spots unless they had something to gain from mass immigration?
I suppose they forgot to explain to the over twenty million citizens in the USA who are either unemployed or are working part-time but want and cannot find a full-time job how large numbers of legal immigrants (also needing jobs) and giving legal work permits and an amnesty to illegal immigrants will lower the unemployment rate (note the Congressional Budget Office has already said increases in immigration will increase unemployment and drive down wages in the U.S.

We also are being told how mass immigration to the U.S. and an amnesty will grow our economy.  It is true that people buy “stuff”, but we can sell them stuff where they are —- we don’t have to move everyone physically to the USA.  Actually it’s very inefficient to do so —- sell them stuff where they now live overseas and we won’t have to raise taxes to build more new schools and roads and bridges in the U.S. just for large numbers of immigrants (by the way our existing roads and bridges are crumbling from lack of attention).  With high unemployment how is it taxpayer efficient to have mass immigration while we provide unemployed citizens with public benefits longer and the unemployed have little to spend in the ecnomy? The “grow the economy with mass immigration” mantra is just voodoo economics, as it benefits companies who want cheap labor and those who want to drive down wages in the USA in general.  I could rob a bank and buy my wife a fur coat and a Lincoln and claim I was growing the economy, but that would be unlawful and not be good policy, just like the bad public policy of amnesty along with more mass immigration.

House Immigration Bill Just as Bad

Phyllis Schlafly | Jul 30, 2013

The Gang of Eight pro-amnesty Senators are trying to con the House of Representatives into passing parts of an anti-American amnesty bill so they can get a Chuck Schumer-dominated conference committee and bamboozle Representatives into going along with their sellout plans. The few pro-amnesty Republican Senators had Marco Rubio as the salesman for the unpopular amnesty bill, and the few pro-amnesty Republicans in the House have Paul Ryan to play the same un-Republican role.

The Gang of Eight patted itself on the back for successfully passing their bill in the Senate, but, funny thing, the bill was never forwarded to the House for action. The explanation for this irregular omission is fear that the House would "blue slip" the bill.

Article 1, Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution gives the sole power to the House to originate all bills for raising revenue, known as the Origination Clause. If the Senate oversteps and includes a provision to raise some revenue (which it did in the Gang's amnesty bill), the House can reject the bill and send it back to the Senate for correction in what is known as a "blue slip" procedure.

The devious Ryan plan to circumvent this rule is for the House to pass five or six bills on various aspects of amnesty and then use that bunch of bills to call for a conference committee with the Senate. Ryan let the cat out of the bag when he told a constituent audience in Racine, Wis. on July 26 that his revised plan now calls for a House vote, not before the August recess as originally expected but in October.

Senator Cruz: Gang of Eight “Penalizes Businesses” that hire U.S. Citizens

Senator Cruz: Gang of Eight “Penalizes Businesses” that hire U.S. Citizens

Speaking at the Black American Leadership Alliance’s March for Jobs in Washington, D.C. yesterday, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz spoke against the Senate’s recently-passed Gang of Eight immigration bill. Sen. Cruz highlighted the fact that the bill, if it passes the House and is signed into law, would impose penalties on U.S. employers for hiring American citizens and permanent residents.
“One of the most egregious aspects of the gang of eight bill is its intersection with Obamacare, which penalizes businesses that hire a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident over an illegal immigrant,” Sen. Cruz said. “This is utterly and completely indefensible. If this bill passes it will increase unemployment: it will increase African American unemployment, Hispanic unemployment, youth unemployment and even legal immigrant unemployment.”

Secrets Buried In The Immigration Reform Bill

Western Center for Journalism

July 19, 2013

Why exactly are RINO Republicans, supposedly on the Right, like Marco Rubio appearing in anational multimillion dollar ad campaign to push so-called “Immigration Reform”? And who exactly is paying for these 60-second infomercials that are literally being broadcast from coast to coast? We would expect that it is RINO Neocons like Karl Rove or radical leftist groups that want open borders. On the contrary, it is mega-corporations who are primarily funding the ad blitz, with Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg topping the donation list.

Zuckerberg, a bleeding heart liberal in bed with the Obama administration sharing an agenda with the Neocons?

You betcha!

And here’s why: We often think of illegal aliens hunched over, picking crops; but the real cash crop for the big tech companies are those in online tech support or those hunched over circuit boards,  soldering components twelve hours a day in sweltering conditions, or zombies putting widgets together. It’s not about bringing low-wage agricultural workers, lawn care workers, etc. out of the shadows as we are led to believe, but giving the mega tech companies and Neocon military-industrial complex industries access to low-wage employees.

But that is only the secondary reason. The primary reason they’re bankrolling the so-called Immigration Reform Bill is to let Obama’s corporate cronies off the hook for millions of dollars in fines and a get-out-of-jail-free card for knowingly hiring illegal aliens.

According to the just-released Government Accountability Project report, entitled “Corporate Amnesty in S.744 Immigration Bill”:

A little-discussed provision buried in the immigration bill which passed out of the Senate on June 27, 2013 (S. 744) would let employers off the hook for previously hiring illegal immigrants—a Get Out of Jail Free card that could help companies dodge millions of dollars in fines and penalties, legal fees, and evade prosecution or imprisonment for guilty executives.

CCTA Program on May 21, 2013: Islam and Immigration

Public Service Announcement

May 14, 2013

Two topics, Islam and Immigration, will be the focus of Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association's meeting Tuesday, May 21, at 7 PM at the Bridgepointe Hotel.

"The Truth About Islam" will be presented by Ralph Scott. Mr. Scott will explain Islam's beginnings, how terrorism became associated with it, what Islamic leaders are saying today, and the strange alliance of members of the radical left with Islamic fundamentalists. For those who find they want to know more, this talk will serve as an introduction to a four night class which Mr. Scott will teach for CCTA.

"Immigration Legislative Maneuvers" is Mary Delaney's topic. Mrs. Delaney recently traveled to D.C. and met with Senator Jeff Sessions, Senator Lamar Smith, and Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation. Their meetings went into legislative moves being considered by Congress, what they would cost to implement, and what unintended consequences would follow.

When it comes to "hot topics," the "I's" have it. There will be no business conducted; the entire meeting will be devoted to informational content.

Is There a Scary Biometric ‘National ID System’ Tucked into the Immigration Bill?

A more than 800-page bill for immigration reform, which the Senate has begun debating, carries a measure privacy advocates worry could lead to the creation of a biometric database of every adult in the United States.

The section in the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act called “Identity Authentication Mechanism,” which describes a “photo tool,” is what has some on alert.

The section states that an employer hoping to hire an individual would need to verify the identity of the said person “using the photo tool.” Such a tool would be developed and maintained by the Secretary of State allowing employers to “match the photo on a covered identity document provided to the employer to a photo maintained by a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services database.”

Wired has the perspective of privacy advocates regarding this measure:

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE APRIL 30, 2013

FROM THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION!

Senate:

Internet Sales Tax--Last Thursday cloture was invoked to end debate on the mis-titled Market Place Fairness Act (S. 743) by a vote of 63-30. Vote on final passage will happen on Monday, May 6, which will send the bill over to the House. The final vote will require only a majority to pass the bill, so 14 supporters would have to flip to stop it. We have identified 10 awful things about the Internet Sales Tax to keep in mind as well as issued a Key Vote” against the Senate bill. Remember the House will be a key firewall to the legislation being stopped. Therefore, please click here to see whether or not your House Member is on the co-sponsor list for the Internet Sales Tax.

Immigration:  The Senate Judiciary Committee will begin marking up the so-called Gang of Eight’s comprehensive immigration reform legislation on May 9th. It will most likely be considered for a vote before July 4th. It’s important to know that this piece of legislation provides amnesty and does so within 6 months for all current 11 million here illegally. The “Path to citizenship” is a problem but it is vitally important to focus on the bills’ amnesty within six months. Senator Rubio has defended the bill by saying there are triggers, but there is nothing binding in the law. We need to kill this bill in the Senate, but the House is our firewall. For additional reference please see the attached one pager.

Senator Cruz video:  Senator Ted Cruz recently spoke to a group of activists in Texas about the effectiveness of your persistence in Congressional accountability during the recent gun control debate. It is worth watching.

House:

Immigration:  The House immigration working group “Gang of 10” is considering a plan that would require illegal immigrants to appear in federal court and admit to breaking immigration law, before being granted amnesty. We need their immigration plan to go through regular order and through the Judiciary Committee in order for the conservatives to help provide an open and transparent process. House Leadership has not really said which way they are going to go, but they have encouraged Members in the House “Gang of 10” to come up with the bill. When asking our Representatives if they oppose the bill, we need to make sure we are asking them if they oppose amnesty, meaning any legalized states (and not just path to citizenship).

Farm Bill:  The Farm Bill in the House was nearly a $1 trillion dollar bill in 2012 ($957 billion over 10 years). The farm bill in 2008 was $604 billion over ten years—a 63% increase. 80% of the bill was federal food stamp funding. This is because there are now 46 million individuals on food stamps, compared with 17 million in 2000 and 30 million in 2008 respectively. 1 out of every 7 Americans are now on food stamps. Farm Bill supporters marry food stamps and farm subsidies in order to create the dynamic to generate support and pass it. Our Representatives need to answer why they support hundreds of billions in food stamps and then convince them to split the bill. The House is expected to unveil their new bill soon and consider it in May. It is expected to be similar to the bill that we helped block last year. However, we need to start educating the Congress on the bill’s expected problems now.
