Republicans renew ObamaCare battle after latest mandate delay

“Administration officials dispute that this is happening on any large scale. Further, Treasury officials said Monday that businesses will be told to "certify" that they are not shedding full-time workers simply to avoid the mandate. Officials said employers will be told to sign a "self-attestation" on their tax forms affirming this, under penalty of perjury.”

Republicans renewed their calls to delay or repeal ObamaCare Monday after the Obama administration announced another delay in the requirement for businesses to provide health coverage to workers, giving some employers a reprieve next year while phasing in the mandate for others. 

The administration had already delayed the implementation of the so-called employer mandate by a year, initially pushing the requirements off until 2015 -- past the midterm elections. In a concession to business, though, Treasury Department officials announced Monday that the administration would not enforce the rules across the board next year. 

"Once again, the president is giving a break to corporations while individuals and families are still stuck under the mandates of his health care law. And, once again, the president is rewriting law on a whim," House Speaker John Boehner said in a statement. "If the administration doesn't believe employers can manage the burden of the law, how can struggling families be expected to?"

Sixteen GOP lawmakers warned President Obama in a letter delivered Thursday that they “reject” his call for the House to pass an immigration reform bill, which they say will displace tens of millions of American workers who are already struggling to keep a part time job, reduce wages and affect tens of millions more who are unemployed.

Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks spearheaded the letter, along with 15 other members, saying the Senate’s immigration overhaul will give permanent residency to over 30 million immigrants in the next decade, adding in the letter  that the “so-called comprehensive immigration reform may be a good deal for big businesses who want to reduce labor costs, and it may be a good deal for progressive labor unions seeking new workers from abroad, but it’s an awful deal for U.S. workers – including African-American and Hispanic communities enduring chronically high unemployment.”

President Obama on Saturday admonished Republicans who have threatened to shut down the government if the next federal budget does not strip funding for the president's signature healthcare law, saying in his weekly address that "health insurance isn't something to play politics with." 

"A lot of Republicans seem to believe that if they can gum up the works and make this law fail, they’ll somehow be sticking it to me," Obama said. "But they’d just be sticking it to you."

Last month, some 60 House Republicans sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) urging leadership to remove funding for the Affordable Care Act in its next continuing resolution, while Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has spearheaded a similar push in the Senate.

But some GOP leaders — including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) — have warned that Republicans won't be able to stop implementation of the law through the budgetary process. Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) told the Associated Press the threatened shutdown was the "dumbest idea" he'd ever heard of.

Obama also seized on a report in The Hill that some Republican lawmakers have said they will not assist constituents in navigating the law and obtaining benefits.

"Some even say that if you call their office with questions about the law, they’ll refuse to help," Obama said. "Call me old-fashioned – but that’s lousy constituent service. And it’s not what you deserve."

The insurance exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act are set to go online October 1, ahead of the 2014 requirement that all Americans purchase health insurance. But that looming deadline has put intensified focus on the upcoming budget process. Congress needs to strike a deal before the fiscal year runs out on Sept. 30, but will only have nine legislative days to do so after returning from its August recess.

How to Win, and Not to Win, in 2014

Lately there’s been a growing chorus of calls for the Tea Party and the Republican Party to unite and find a way of compromising over their differences in order to achieve their common goal of defeating Democrats.  This scares the heck out of me because many in the Tea Party may think it’s a good idea.

The Tea Party is NOT (yet?) formally a political party, but a group of people whoshare certain ideas about political philosophy.  True, for various reasons they tend to support Republicans more often than Democrats, but the basis for their support of any candidate is the extent to which his INDIVIDUAL political ideas meld with THEIRS. 

The party label is NEVER the essential point. It just HAPPENS to be Republican most of the time because INDIVIDUAL Republican candidates agree with the Tea Party’s ideas more often than individual Democrats or Independents do.  IE, the Tea Party is a movement based on a loyalty to PRINCIPLES, NOT to political parties.

“YOU come to US” is what the principled Tea Party says, “from ANY political party,” and “if you do share our IDEAS, then we’ll support you.”  The Tea Party is not “into” party loyalty.  What it is “into” is INTELLECTUAL, PHILOSOPHICAL, and MORAL & ETHICAL LOYALTY.

I responded to the latest organization which sent me an email pushing for the political compromise mentioned above.  A paraphrase of that response follows just below.  It provides the reasons whythis strategy is a great way for us NOT to win the political battle. Following it, I offer the positive side of the coin, a suggestion on how to win.

HOW NOT TO WIN

Here’s the essence of my response to those who advocate the Tea Party “compromise” with the Republican Party to “iron out their differences” and “find a way to unite” in achieving the defeat of Democrats:

“The RNC is loaded with Democrats in Republican clothing.  It makes no sense to unite against the content of a particular book with the authors of that very book simply because they’ve given it a different cover or a new title.

House passes 'No Budget, No Pay,' sends to the Senate

The House on Wednesday put new pressure on the Senate to pass its first budget in nearly four years, by approving a bill that threatens to withhold senators' pay until that work is done. The House approved the No Budget, No Pay Act in a 285-144 vote.

Among Republicans, 33 voted against it to protest the absence of specific spending cuts in a bill that essentially extends the debt ceiling. But they were more than offset by the 86 Democrats who voted for the measure. The bill suspends the debt ceiling until May 18, and requires each chamber to pass a budget by April 15 or have its members face a suspension of pay.

Republicans are hoping the bill gives Congress a few months to find a longer-term debt ceiling agreement that includes significant spending cuts.

I’m Not Sure What Republicans Stand For in Congress | RedState

I was once an elected Republican. There isn’t much that the Republican Party has to do with trash collection, but I was a Republican on the Macon, Georgia City Council and I supported trash collection privatization. It wasn’t the Republican thing to do. It was the conservative thing to do. It was the right thing to do. Multiple times it had been tried and multiple times it had saved taxpayer dollars.

There aren’t a lot of Republican positions at the local level. There aren’t a lot of Democrat positions at the local level. There are conservative and liberal positions. There are positions that believe the private sector can do better and positions that believe the public sector can do better.

In Congress, there used to be clear and distinct Republican and Democrat positions. But in the past decade, about the only thing separating the GOP from the Democrats is the rate of spending. Republicans spend less, but they still spend a lot. Oh, and they love babies in utero.

Republicans used to believe in free enterprise, the private sector, and low taxes. They believed in getting government the heck out of the way. They still talk like that, but they don’t seem to actually be operating like that. Senate and House Republicans seem to be in a bidding war to increase revenue in Washington. What’s worse, they are mendacious enough to call it “increasing revenue” instead of “tax increases,” when it amounts to the same thing. The Republican Party of John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have taken a party that once believed in starving the beast and transforming it into a party that believes in feeding the leviathan lest the leviathan consume them. They operate out of fear — fear of losing their remaining power, fear of blame, and fear of the unknown.

I am absolutely in favor of simplifying the tax code. I am absolutely in favor of getting rid of loopholes. But I am absolutely opposed to engaging in machinations of the tax code designed to increase spending through closed loopholes and the like. Increased revenue should come through simplifying Washington to spur economic growth. Get Washington out of our lives.

While the Republican Party in Washington says that, it sure seems not to be living up to that. Consider this so called fiscal cliff.

The fiscal cliff is actually a bipartisan compromise that congress critters and their friends in the press have now given a spooky name to scare the American people lest Washington have to take the medicine it prescribed itself. The Republicans were complicit in this arrangement.

Republicans and Democrats punted and punted on the Bush tax cuts and they arranged a debt ceiling increase that would, should a committee designed to fail actually fail, force draconian cuts that both sides could scream about and demand be rejected. So Washington would get a debt ceiling increase, but would not actually have to suffer the pain of cuts. Republicans and Democrats collaborated to design a medicine so vile they could ask the public’s forgiveness if they chose not to take it and design a more sugary medicine instead.

But one way or the other, the medicine must now be taken.

Raleigh – The North Carolina House of Representatives adjourned on Tuesday, ending a two-year session that saw Republicans in a majority for only the second time in more than a century.  After inheriting a multi-billion dollar budget deficit and a job-starved economy, House Republicans took positive steps to
balance the state budget, reduce taxes and regulations, and make North Carolina more business-friendly.


“Today, we concluded a historic session that saw our House majority work across the aisle to accomplish what many thought impossible,” said House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Mecklenburg). “We overrode eleven gubernatorial vetoes, worked to make our state more conducive for job creation, and took bold action toward long-term solutions for North Carolina’s critical problems.”

Republicans in the House highlight two bipartisan votes on the state budget as the crowning achievement of their first term in the majority. Despite vetoes from Gov. Perdue in both years, the House budget garnered enough bipartisan support to override the veto in 2011 and 2012. “We reversed a decades-long trend of increasing spending and raising taxes,” Tillis said. “With Democrat support, we passed a responsible two-year budget that cut taxes and reduced spending. We are already seeing positive effects from that action.”

In addition to the budget, the House passed several landmark reforms on issues that had gone without action for years: regulation, worker’s compensation, medical malpractice, and annexation. The House also helped provide solvency to the State Health Plan and took steps to address severe problems in Medicaid. Republicans oversaw an efficient and effective redistricting process, drawing fair and legal districts that have been pre-cleared by the Department of Justice.

While balancing budgets, cutting taxes, and reducing regulation, House Republicans took specific steps toward job creation. Just this week, an eleventh veto override measure passed the House to establish the framework for hydraulic fracturing, which could bring thousands of new jobs to the state. Millions of dollars were appropriated for job training and re-training through the community college system.

“This session was successful because we worked across the aisle, we listened to our constituents, and we kept our promises to the voters,” Tillis said. “We’ll continue to do so in the months to come, and I look forward to reconvening the House in January to build on the progress we have made during our first two years.”

Businessman Randy Ramsey (top) is running as a Republican. He has been a long-time Democratic donor and is connected to at least four campaign flights for Gov. Bev Perdue.

RALEIGH — Carteret County businessman Randy Ramsey, who has made substantial campaign contributions to Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue, former Democratic Gov. Mike Easley, and the N.C. Democratic Party, is running in a three-way Republican primary for the 2nd District state Senate seat.

Ramsey is the owner of Jarrett Bay Boatworks, a boat-building company located in Beaufort. He is a registered Republican, but his past support for Democrats, which includes air travel for Perdue and a $2,000 contribution to her campaign in July, has outraged several Republican Party activists.

Before this year, he has given $3,750 to Republican candidates, but more than 10 times that amount to Democratic campaigns and to the state Democratic Party.

Ramsey told Carolina Journal that he gave to Democrats from eastern North Carolina and thought they would help his part of the state, but that he has “been disappointed” in them.

Moreover, either Ramsey or Jarrett Bay is connected with at least four flights provided to the 2008 Perdue campaign, based on records from an investigation by the State Board of Elections. Ramsey says he recalls providing two of the flights, but the records — provided by the Perdue committee — are spotty and incomplete, making it difficult to connect payments with specific flights.

Two former Perdue fundraisers face felony charges related to unreported or improperly reported flights during Perdue’s campaign for governor.

Air travel for Perdue

Perdue was elected governor in November 2008. Investigations and news reports later would reveal that she made extensive use of private aircraft for campaign and official business without paying the owners. Perdue has attributed the initial nonpayments to sloppy work by her campaign staff. A Perdue spokeswoman characterized the free flying for official business as “gifts to the state.”


Through an investigation by the Board of Elections, the public eventually learned that Perdue’s campaign had accepted dozens of free flights. After a hearing in August 2010, the board fined the Perdue committee $30,000.

A spreadsheet listing Perdue’s air travel from 2001 through 2008 became public information during the election board’s August 2010 hearing. That document listed a total of 243 flights, but the details of many of the flights were missing.

The records appear complete for a Sept. 26, 2008, flight in a Beechcraft King Air provided by Crystal Aviation. May 11, 2009, the Perdue campaign committee sent Jarrett Bay Boatworks Inc. a check for $629.34, listing it as a debt payment for air travel related to that flight.

Crystal Aviation is involved in airplane leasing, according to corporation records from the N.C. Secretary of State’s office. Randy Ramsey of Jarrett Bay Boatworks was listed as a managing member in 2004 and as a member in other years.

A Carolina Journal review of Perdue’s campaign reports could not match reimbursements for three other flights involving Crystal Aviation:

• A Feb. 21, 2008, flight listed as New Bern/Charlotte/Chapel Hill/ New Bern was attributed to Crystal Aviation Partnership and Trawick “Buzzy” Stubbs. No cost or payment information was listed. CJ could find no record of payment to Stubbs, Crystal Aviation, Jarrett Bay, or Ramsey.

Stubbs, a longtime friend of Perdue and the law partner of Perdue’s late first husband, recently pleaded not guilty to two felony charges related to the governor’s campaign funding. Stubbs was identified in the Board of Elections’ report on Perdue’s campaign flights as an architect of an “aircraft provider” program, along with Peter Reichard, the campaign’s former finance director. Reichard took a felony Alford plea in February in the state probe of the governor’s campaign.


• A May 4, 2008, flight listed as Beaufort/New Bern/Chapel Hill/Beaufort/New Bern also was attributed to Crystal Aviation and Buddy Stallings. The cost column reads, “cost sheet not completed.” CJ could find no record of payment to Stubbs, Crystal Aviation, Jarrett Bay, or Ramsey.

• A March 8, 2007, flight listed as New Bern/Chapel Hill/Charlotte/Chapel Hill/New Bern was attributed to Crystal Aviation and Buzzy Stubbs. Notes indicate the trip was part official business and part campaign. The total cost was listed as $1,260.60. CJ could find no record of payment to Stubbs, Crystal Aviation, Jarrett Bay, or Ramsey.

Ramsey told CJ the Perdue committee reimbursed him for two flights, but he didn’t remember the details. When asked who asked him to make his aircraft available to Perdue, he said, “I don’t remember — don’t know who asked.”

NCSU board appointment

In June 2009, Perdue appointed Ramsey to the N.C. State University Board of Trustees. Ramsey filled the vacancy left by board chairman D. McQueen Campbell, who resigned at the request of UNC System President Erskine Bowles.


At the time, Campbell was the subject of news stories and investigations involving free campaign-related flights he had provided to Gov. Mike Easley, for his role in helping Mary Easley obtain a job at N.C. State, and for helping the Easleys purchase a lot in the Cannonsgate development in Carteret County.

In November 2010, Mike Easley entered an Alford plea to a felony charge of failure to report campaign expenditures. Under an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that the evidence against him may lead to conviction from a jury. Easley, the first North Carolina governor with a felony conviction, paid a $1,000 fine.

Party loyalty

The 2nd Senate District is made up of Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico Counties.

The other two candidates are current GOP state Rep. Norm Sanderson of Arapahoe and Pine Knoll Shores Mayor Ken Jones. Incumbent Republican Jean Preston decided not to seek another term.

Some local conservative and Republican activists can’t stomach Ramsey as a Republican candidate.

“Randy Ramsey has been a major player in liberal Democratic ‘pay-to-play’ politics and is not representative of the conservative values of the Tea Party, or what we expect of the Republican Party,” wrote Ken Lang of Stella on the Crystal Coast Tea Party’s website.

The Republican Party has gone insane.

For the better part of the last three years the Republican Party has exercised itself into a frenzy over the need to repeal Obamacare. For the two years leading up to November of 2010, mostly middle aged working white people took to the streets in sizes rivaling a NASCAR race to protest the socialization of the American health care system.

The individual mandate and TARP draw the ire of scores of primary voters.

And our two front runners for President? They both support an individual mandate and they both supported TARP. Not only that, just last year Mitt Romney was saying he’d keep parts of Obamacare. Like supporting amnesty, he has changed his position just in time for an election cycle. Are we really going to do this? I just want everyone to make sure they understand this and remind them that Perry, Bachmann, Huntsman, and yes, even Rick Santorum are still in the race.

House Passes Payroll Tax Cut Extension With Keystone Pipeline Provision

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — Defiant Republicans pushed legislation through the House Tuesday night that would keep alive Social Security payroll tax cuts for some 160 million Americans at President Barack Obama’s request – but also would require construction of a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline that has sparked a White House veto threat.


Passage, on a largely party-line vote of 234-193, sent the measure toward its certain demise in the Democratic-controlled Senate, triggering the final partisan showdown of a remarkably quarrelsome year of divided government.

The legislation “extends the payroll tax relief, extends and reforms unemployment insurance and protects Social Security – without job-killing tax hikes,” Republican House Speaker John Boehner declared after the measure had cleared.


Referring to the controversy over the Keystone XL pipeline, he added, “Our bill includes sensible, bipartisan measures to help the private sector create jobs.”

On a long day of finger pointing, however, House Democrats accused Republicans of protecting “millionaires and billionaires, `’ and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., derided the GOP-backed pipeline provision as “ideological candy” for the tea party-set.

THE DAILY RANT: It’s about to get very dirty

A full week before before the baseless allegations against Herman came out, I tweeted to be prepared for something like it to happen. Well, let me share with you how I believe the next round of attacks will play out.


First of all, I have been saying since March of 2009, that as unbelievable as it may sound, the Republican hierarchy does not want to win this election. That’s right, they do not. We have seen acts of betrayal, and sabotaging in local races across the country, and that is why they’re going to do everything possible to tear down Herman Cain.

It is no accident that these accusations happened when they did. The argument that you are going to hear, that these things aren’t being said about the other candidates, is bogus and the talking heads know it. There is dirt on Newt that is wheeled out everytime he even approaches a political position and it will be brought up again. Perry has already been damaged and there is no chance under the sun that they would let him beat Romney, and Obama will slice, dice, and fillet Romney. The very same reasons that make Romney unacceptable to true conservatives and Tea Party people are what makes him dead meat against Obama. And you can bet if Ron Paul and Rick Santorum had even a remotely distant chance of winning the primary, there would be dirt out on them, including allegations of sexual impropriety. Or do people not remember the ugliness about Rick’s one staff member? Funny how that found it’s way into the topic of campaign conversation the year Planned Parenthood, et al, determined he had to loose.

But back to my point. Very soon you are going to see the heads of groups, that people think are conservative, but are in fact nothing more than corrals to keep votes in, under the guise of being conservative, until the GOP needs them. The heads of said groups will give all pretense of being objective, when in fact they are apparatchiks, doing the bidding of Republican hierarchy. The leadership of said groups have for a very long time enjoyed a level of access, that allows them to believe they are part of the inner circle.

They will go on Fox News and select radio programming making statements about Herman that are intended to keep the buzz going, so that the talk of impropriety is constantly swirling around him – when in reality it isn’t the people, it is the talking heads. The same talking heads who predicted he would be gone by now, who said he had no money, and who said he had no organization. They will set themselves as the arbiters of justice, determined to bring him down, while making it look like they have nothing to do with it.

Lloyd Marcus: Blacks Still “Played” and Controlled by Tired Old Democrat Paradigms

A black website published one of my articles. The black publisher asked his readers to forgive me for being a black member of the GOP and review my article with an open mind.


In response, a subscriber wrote, "You can ask us to look past him being a GOP, but you can't ask us to look past his claim to be a tea party Christian."

Grateful for an opportunity to enlighten indoctrinated blacks, I asked the website publisher to publicly post my reply to the ill-informed subscriber's comment.

Please do not think me rude or mean by stating the following truth. The subscriber's comment reflects an ignorance of the facts and history prevalent in the black community.

Many blacks erroneously believe the GOP consists of rich racist white people. In reality, the GOP was founded to free blacks. Only five years after slavery, there were black congressmen, all Republicans. The KKK, Jim Crow laws, segregation, and denying blacks the right to vote where all birthed by Democrats.

Even today, Democrats are still "keeping blacks in their place" -- telling them they need lowered standards, affirmative action, special programs, and freebies to succeed. Democrats constantly send blacks the message they are not as smart was whites. For example, Democrats say having to show ID when voting disenfranchises blacks. This is merely a tactic by which the Democrats implement voter fraud. However, in the process, they are saying blacks are too stupid to find their way to the DMV or other places to acquire proper ID. This is just one example of numerous ways Democrats tell blacks they are inferior and need Democrats' help to succeed.

Republicans deal with blacks respectfully, as equals. Democrats thrive on blacks believing themselves to be victims, despite being blessed to be born in the greatest land of opportunity on the planet. Foreigners are trying to get to America in cardboard boats held together with duct tape. Democrats punish and hate blacks who compete with whites and succeed without Democrat lowered standards and involvement.

While sold as compassion and "fairness," Democrat programs are always about making as many people as possible dependent on government to secure/buy votes. In the long run, all Democrat policies and programs hurt people!

There are black idiot knucklehead racists who want to believe a lie rather than the truth. Yes, I said black racists. I reject and resent the satanic notion that because of slavery, blacks have a right to be racist. Racism is evil, period, whether it comes from blacks or whites. The following is a statement from Richard Viguerie, chairman of Conservative HQ.com, regarding President Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress regarding employment:


"Congressional Republican leaders alienated most tea party and grass-roots conservatives when they made a debt ceiling deal with President Obama, instead of sticking with their own conservative allies to cut, cap, and balance the federal budget.

"Now, a little over a month after congressional Republicans made their deal with Obama, he suckered them into giving him a taxpayer-financed re-election speech to announce a more than $400 billion stimulus plan, effectively reneging on the debt ceiling deal he made back in August.

"If there was ever proof that the tea party and conservatives were right about the debt ceiling deal and that making spending deals with Obama is folly, this is it.

"Tea party and conservative activists are asking one question: Will congressional Republicans cave in to Obama's demands for more taxes and spending or will they redeem themselves partially by standing fast against another raid on the treasury by Obama and his Big Labor allies?"


Don't bet on it! Obama obviously has the GOP in his pocket! What a 'weak sister'!

Many of us never thought that the Republicans would hold tough long enough to get President Obama and the Democrats to agree to a budget deal that does not include raising income tax rates. But they did — and Speaker of the House John Boehner no doubt desires much of the credit for that.


Despite the widespread notion that raising tax rates automatically means collecting more revenue for the government, history says otherwise. As far back as the 1920s, Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon pointed out that the government received a very similar amount of revenue from high-income earners at low tax rates as it did at tax rates several times as high.

The art of Jiu-Jitsu is to use an opponent's weight and strength to your advantage. I believe this is what the conservatives must do in the coming 2012 presidential election.

Obama's "weight and strength" is that by next year he will have a surplus of $1 billion in campaign money and the mainstream media supporting him. He also has ACORN (or whatever they call themselves now) and other community organizers rallying the liberal troops to make sure he gets re-elected. Add to that his slick-willy youth charm and pseudo-charisma with which he has bamboozled a large part of the American public, who neither follow politics nor understand how he has unraveled the very fabrics of our republic. And tailor that with Obama's unique ability to make one believe he means what he says from a teleprompter, and you have a formidable foe.

But as Rickson Gracie, retired mixed martial artist, an eighth-degree black and red belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and a member of the renowned martial arts family – the Gracie family, once said, "If size mattered, the elephant would be the king of the jungle."


How true that is. But it's also true that the elephant here (Obama), despite the shape of the economy, is still leading every single Republican presidential candidate by double-digit margins. A brand new Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that Obama is even "ahead of his closest Republican rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, by 13 percentage points – 51 percent to 38 percent."

To be effective, the conservative organizations, independents, libertarians, Republicans, tea partiers, and other grass-root groups across our country must make the people aware that it is time we unite as one voice and, if you will, one Jiu-Jitsu force. And that includes the Republican candidates running for president. If they don't, we will proceed through the presidential primary with politics as usual and get swallowed up in the partisan muck and mire.

As my friend, Mike Huckabee, recently stated on June 3 during a speech at the Clinton School of Public Service: "It's not going to be an easy path for whoever the Republican [nominee] is. Whoever it is is going to come out of a bloody primary, broke and battered, because I anticipate the Republicans will do what they typically do and they'll have a demolition derby, a circular firing squad and load up with bullets and start shooting and then by the time somebody comes out of this thing in let's say April or May, they have very little, little time to recover, they'll never be able to come up with the amount of cash that the incumbent is going to have, and plus he's an incumbent president which means the advantages of flying in on Air Force One and being presidential is very different than being the challenger."

If that is the case, Obama will cruise in and be re-elected.

And if a bloody primary and insufficient campaign funds doesn't dash to the wind the Republican nominee’s chances, then third-party candidates (who will be hailed as constitutionalists or some other unique quality) will split the conservative votes and we won't stand a chance to prevent the majority from re-electing Obama. Did we learn nothing from the 1992 Ross Perot and 1996 Bob Dole political fiascoes and divides?


With no clear frontrunner who has the "weight and strength" of Obama, isn't it relatively easy to see the outcome if we engage now in political business as usual? As Huckabee again noted during his speech, "[T]he fact [is] that, since 1868, only once – in 1980 after Jimmy Carter's first term – has a party been turned out after only one term." (Do we really believe 2012 will see the second time, with President Obama versus one of the present Republican candidates?)

Radical times call for new and radical measures. Formidable opponents require us to abandon business as usual strategies. Do fighters fight the same way in every competition? No, they examine their opponents, their strengths and weaknesses, and adapt accordingly to win. Are all wars won the same way? No, generals and combat strategists examine every variable of their foes and implement a plan on the battlefields that will bring victory. It is going to be the same way in this next presidential race.

So let's try this on for size! What if the Republican candidates got together and in all honesty (and all egos aside) decided to unify and create a collective force that could annihilate the Obama machine because they offered a team (cabinet) of experts and leaders? What if we all require our preferred candidates to lead the way by joining together and working out that team? Since they purport to be able to be the leaders of our divided political landscape, let's see if they have the leadership to rally us together before they are elected.

I'm fully aware of the sizable step of humility they all must make, but, if we all demanded they create a team rather than a solo fighting force, would they not harken to the cries of those who support them? Is the tea party not a good example of what "We the People" can do, when we come together and require something of our leaders? We should demand that the candidates humble themselves, realize the perilous plight of anyone's solo efforts (as Huckabee defined) unify, chart a new course and team strategy, create a prospective presidential cabinet, etc. Then they would recommend to us who is best suited among them to out debate and defeat Obama and Biden. Maybe it would be someone not even among them yet. The others would all have significant positions in the presidential cabinet, so as to help lead our country back on the right path. That would sure test their willingness to serve our country: Are they willing to serve in a presidential cabinet rather than the supreme position?

As the acrostic TEAM explains, "Together Everyone Achieves More." Again, I realize the obstacles for these candidates to overcome their egos and unify as "team leaders," but what other alternatives do we have?

This is the way we can use our conservative Jiu-Jitsu to overpower our opponents, Obama and Biden, and prevail in our political combat.
