Daily Journal: A Conservative View of Moral Monday

By John Hood, February 10, 2014

RALEIGH — Any political movement that can turn out tens of thousands of protesters on a chilly morning in February must be deemed impressive.

To this conservative, the 2014 edition of Historic Thousands on Jones Street — an annual march initiated by the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP and now associated with the Moral Monday movement — was a remarkable feat of organization, logistics, and marketing. The NAACP did err in claiming that as many as 100,000 people participated in the march through downtown Raleigh. An estimate of 15,000 to 20,000 is more realistic. But that’s still a huge turnout by Raleigh standards, even if some of the participants were bused in from other states.

If organization, logistics, and marketing were sufficient to produce favorable legislation or electoral victories, the Moral Monday movement would be destined for success. I don’t think that is what’s about to happen, however. While the movement has ample financial and human resources, its strategy is fundamentally flawed.

The conservatives now in charge of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of state government, and of most county governments across North Carolina, believe their policies are right. They don’t believe they are sacrificing morality on the altar of political expediency.

Nullify Now! in Raleigh

October 19, 2013

Nullify Now! in Raleigh is THE event to learn about what Jefferson and Madison advised as the rightful remedy to unconstitutional federal acts.

Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting events around the country to educate and activate people on the topic of Nullification. At a Nullify Now! event, you learn nullification’s constitutional basis and when it has been used in history – plus much more.
AT NULLIFY NOW! YOU WILL LEARN:
1. The Constitutional history of Nullification. Jefferson and Madison’s basis for states rejecting, nullifying and interposing against unconstitutional federal acts.
2. How Nullification was used in early American history - against attacks on freedom of speech and more.
3. Nullification vs Slavery. The mainstream wants you to believe that Nullification was used to support slavery. This is either ignorance or a lie. Hear the heroic story of nullification being used to reject federal slave laws in the 1850s.
4. How Nullification is being used today. right now, across the country, dozens of states are implementing nullification bills. They’ve already been very successful pushing back against the feds and you can use this lesson as a blueprint in your own state, on issues important to you.
5. About Nullification as a Tool for Protecting Liberty. Nullification is a powerful tool to protect your right to keep and bear arms, stop “indefinite detention,” protect your health freedom – and more. You’ll learn about model legislation that can be used on a state OR local level – and effective methods to get nullification bills passed.
6. What YOU can do right now – you won’t leave Nullify Now! with just a bunch of great information. You’ll also be provided with a practical, actionable plan to do something today. The time to act is now, not next year and not next week. Today, not tomorrow, now.

If it's Monday, it must be another protest against tax-cutting Republicans.

Why Are North Carolina Liberals So @&%*! Angry?

The burning heart of liberal activism and indignation this summer can be found, of all places, in the charming capital city of the Tar Heel State. On Monday, for the 11th week in a row, thousands of protesters descended on the copper-domed Capitol denouncing the policies of a Republican Party that for the first time since Reconstruction controls North Carolina's governorship and legislature. Some 800 agitators have been arrested for disrupting the legislature. By all accounts, these "Moral Monday" rallies, though peaceful, are growing in size and volume.
The rallies have caught the eye of the national media, with some referring to Raleigh as the "Madison of the South." Madison, of course, is the famously liberal capital of Wisconsin that turned into a political frying pan in February 2011 when the state's Republican lawmakers reformed union collective-bargaining rules.
Thom Goolsby, an outspoken GOP state senator, has jokingly dismissed the protests in Raleigh as "Moron Mondays" and predicted that they would fade in the weeks ahead. Perhaps, but the stated goal of the organizers is that these rallies evolve into the same kind of political tour de force on the left that the tea party has become on the right. Moral Mondays may be coming soon to a state capital near you.
So what are liberals of all stripes so angry about in North Carolina? I put that question to the organizer of the Moral Monday movement, Rev. William Barber II, a loquacious, likable and politically shrewd preacher and leader of the North Carolina NAACP. (Think Jesse Jackson, but with charm and genuine conviction.) He preaches "civil disobedience" and trains peaceful demonstrators on how to get arrested. He is also a master at political theater.
After a near-five minute sermon about how Republicans have made the state a "crucible of extremism and injustice," it became clear the answer to my question is he and his followers are mad as hell about, well . . . everything. The list of grievances is long but includes unemployment-insurance cuts that took some 70,000 recipients in the state off the rolls, state lawmakers' refusal to sign up for ObamaCare's Medicaid expansion, a proposed voter-ID law, and of course "tax cuts for the rich."
This past Monday marchers were waving signs that read "Justice for Trayvon Martin," "Stop Fracking in North Carolina," and "Vouchers Destroy Public Schools." In recent weeks, demonstrators were out in force demanding abortion rights. On July 2, the state Senate passed a bill requiring health regulations and certified doctors at abortion clinics, a requirement that has been denounced by pro-choice activists as an assault on women. Gov. Pat McCrory has said he would veto that bill, and the state's House of Representatives has since passed a revised bill that will now head back to the Senate.
Mostly, however, these protests are about money. The Civitas Institute, a conservative think tank in North Carolina, recently published an analysis of the financial statements of the left-wing groups sponsoring these rallies, such as the Community Development Initiative and the Institute of Minority Economic Development. It found they have collected about $100 million in state grants, loans and contracts. No wonder they're enraged over GOP lawmakers' attempts to rein in spending.

RALEIGH: Hundreds rally for gun rights

AND CCTA WAS THERE!

Several hundred people rallied in downtown Raleigh Tuesday in an effort to halt proposed gun-control legislation on Capitol Hill and to call on state lawmakers to protect Second Amendment rights.

Grass Roots North Carolina, which was founded 20 years ago to protest a national assault weapons ban, organized the event on Halifax Mall outside the legislature as Congress once again takes up the idea of restricting access to automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Paul Valone, co-founder of the group, said no compromise is possible when discussing constitutional rights.

"Compromise in the gun debate denotes a process in which we lose just slightly less than we would have lost under our opposition's original proposal, but we still lose," Valone said. "We don't just lose one debate; we embolden those who would control us if they can. We don't just lose some nasty-looking, so-called assault weapons; we lose freedom."

North Carolina has had a concealed weapons law on the books for almost two decades, and it's time to expand gun rights rather than curtail them. He said concealed weapons should be allowed in schools and restaurants, among other locations.

"Concealed handgun permit holders have spent 18 years proving themselves sane, sober and law-abiding," he said.

Rep. Larry Pittman, R-Cabarrus, said he plans to introduce a constitutional amendment to allow people to carry concealed weapons everywhere aside from schools, courthouses and any private buildings where the owners have posted gun restrictions.

Pittman read the proposed amendment to the cheers of the crowd: "Any attempt to disarm the law-abiding citizens of the State of North Carolina shall be resisted by the full power of the State of North Carolina, and citizens who have committed no crime have the right personally to resist confiscation of their weapons."

(We Cannot guarantee time of departure from Raleigh.)

It looks like the state Senate is keeping its promise to defend the recent grassroots victory over forced municipal annexation. Now, it is the state House’s turn to take up annexation reform and AFP activists will be there to encourage them to do so.

The legislation being discussed is a pair of annexation reforms that would stop forced annexations in several areas including: Goldsboro , Kinston , Fayetteville , Wilson , Wilmington , Rocky Mount and Lexington . (House Bill 5-Local De-Annexations).

A second bill would subject ALL forced annexations to a direct vote of the people affected. (House Bill 925-Annexation Reform 2).

After years of abusing taxpayers, the cities that make up the North Carolina League of Municipalities lost this fight in the court of public opinion and the General Assembly in recent months. They should not be able to use taxpayer money to receive a third or fourth bite at the apple.

Catch a bus to Raleigh on Thursday and encourage the state House members to fight for property owners by supporting these bills!

Raleigh, NC – April 14th, 2012 --Triangle Conservatives Unite (TCU) is proud to host the 2012 Raleigh Tax Day Tea Party. The Tea Party will be held at the Halifax Mall this year, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Triangle Conservatives Unite is a conservative group made up of NC citizens who are tired of overspending, unbalanced budgets and government corruption. In 2009, when CNBC reporter Rick Santelli ranted about President Obama's housing bailout plan, he stated that Chicago was holding a Tea Party. He was referring to the 1773 Boston Tea Party where colonial protesters dumped tea into the harbor to protest British taxes. The idea hit home with Americans and people across the country responded to this “call to action”. The Tea Party movement has grown more popular each year.

The Raleigh Tax Day Tea Party is sponsored by 106.1 RUSH Radio, along with many of the conservative groups and businesses in our area. This is a great time to meet some of the people who are seeking office this year. Many of our clubs and groups will be set up to inform and meet the public.

Our keynote speaker is Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House. Other speakers include organizers, club leaders, politicians and community activists.

We would like to invite the public to our event. You do not have to be a member of the Tea Party or affiliated with any group to attend. This is a family friendly event where you can learn about fiscal conservatism, elected officials and volunteer opportunities in your community.

Government statistical agency helping NC Democrat

The Carolina Journal, published by the Raleigh-based John Locke Foundation (for which I’ve given paid speeches on occasion) reports that staffers in North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue’s office have been getting advance word on monthly unemployment statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is highly illegal under federal law and violates what I have understood to be a strong tradition in the BLS and other government statistics that no one—no one at all, not even in the White House—gets advanced word ahead of the public announcement of government statistics.

There’s obviously good reason for this: someone with advanced word could place bets in financial and community markets and make lots of money. That’s why Congress provided for penalties of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for early release of this data. And there’s another excellent reason: government statistical agencies should be free of political influence to insure the integrity of the numbers on which many people depend. My understanding is that an important part of the bureaucratic culture of federal statistical agencies is a pride in their independence and integrity; this is something not to be lightly squandered. Maintaining that culture is vital if the government wants to get highly competent people to dedicate their careers to this important work.

Rally at the Governor's Mansion on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00 AM

JOIN US FOR AN IMPORTANT

Rally at the Governor's Mansion on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00 AM

Governor Bev Perdue says, "I think we ought to suspend elections for Congress for two years."

She Wants to Flaunt Article 1, Sec. 2 of the Federal Constitution!!!

She is ignoring the NC State Constitution, which calls for her to support the Constitution and laws of the United States and of the State of North Carolina.

America is reacting - it's bigger than North Carolina. Link Here. And here is the audio - judge for yourself whether it was 'just a joke'. Link here for the audio of the Governor's remarks.

NO WAY, GOVERNOR. WE ARE NOT LIVING IN A DICTATORSHIP.

Patriot Rally, October 1, 2011, 11:00AM

Raleigh Governor's Mansion LET'S GO, TEA AND GRASSROOTS GROUPS.
PATRIOTS, UNITE!
Article 1, Sect. 2 of our US Constitution:

The House of Representatives shall be comprised of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the Several States....

Read the Constitution, Beverly!

We cannot allow this attack on our Constitution and our sacred rights to Vote for our Elected Representatives to go unchallenged! Only tyrannical dictators suspend elections when the will of the People has turned against them and their policies. Governor Perdue is behaving like a would-be dictator in proposing that Congressional Elections be "suspended" for two years!

Governor Perdue has shown her true colors. Frustrated by the will of the People and knowing that the Voters will punish her at the polls in 2012 for her policies and actions, she wishes to suspend those elections. She wishes for those who have flaunted power and ignored the electorate to be shielded from that electorate.

This is a serious attack on the Constitution. If this attack goes unchallenged, those who would trample on the Constitution and on our God-given rights will grow even bolder! The Tea Party stands for the U.S. Constitution and for full restoration of the limited government prescribed in that sacred document. This is a call to TEA Party patriots across the state of North Carolina to come to the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh on Saturday, October 1.

We must call out the Governor on her un-Constitutional proposal and her attack on the very foundation of U.S. governance. America must remain a Government Of the People and By the People. We the People must defend it and let Governor Perdue know she has crossed the line!

Her proposal is wrong. It is indefensible. It is abhorrent!

Stay On Message!

Governor Perdue spoke about suspending elections. Her public call for suspending elections specifically attacks the Constitution and the right of the People to Vote for their Elected Representatives.

We want lots of signs. But we need to be firmly on message. If there are signs on all kinds of issues as you might normally see at a general Tea Party rally, the message will be lost. The protest will be less effective.

So we encourage those who will make signs to keep them focused on protecting and preserving our U.S. Constitution, on protecting our Right to Vote, and on challenging Governor Perdue for stepping way over the line!

Bring a flag, signs if you wish, and plenty of patriotic strength. WE ARE RIGHT!

Here are a few slogans that might be appropriate for your signs:

US Constitution - Article 1, Section 2!
Resign Now, Perdue!
Hands Off our Right to Vote!
You Cannot Repeal Article 1!
We Demand Our Voting Rights!
Only Dictators Suspend Elections!
You Are Not Your Excellency, Premier Bev!
Are You Afraid of the Voters, Bev?
Accountability to Voters Counts!
The Voters Will Retain Their Rights!

Let's GO!
Rally in Raleigh!

Date: Saturday, October 1, 2011, Time: 11:00 A.M.
Place: The Governor's Mansion, 200 N Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27601

Calling all Patriot Groups!
We must stand together and call Governor Perdue out on this!

Moore Tea Citizens and TEA/Grassroots Patriots

Support the "Taxpayer Bill of Rights" -- Raleigh on Wednesday, May 25

I want to urge everyone to meet in Raleigh on Wednesday, May 25th at 10:00 am in Rm. 327 of the Legislative Bldg (across from Museum of Natural Science) to support House Bill, H.B. 188 - A Taxpayer Bill of Rights

House Bill, H.B. 188 - Taxpayer Bill of Rights - H.B. 188 would amend the state constitution to create a General Fund Expenditure Limit. This amendment would tie future increases in the general fund budget to inflation and population growth. If this bill passed, legislators would no longer be able to make reckless increases in the budget. If they wanted to increase the budget beyond inflation and population growth, it would take an affirmative vote of 2/3 of the legislators of each house of the General Assembly.

Dear Activists,

In the last email I left out the room # for the Legislature Building for Wednesday’s hearing at 10 am on the Taxpayers Bill of Rights. That room number is 1327 of the main building at the General Assembly. Please let me know if you are able to come. Hope to see you there.

A Taxpayer Bill of Rights would amend the state constitution to create a General Fund Expenditure Limit.

Would you be willing to come to Raleigh on Wednesday, May 25 to stand in support of this bill? Would you spread the word to others in your various organizations? You would not need to speak at the hearing but simply be there to support it.

House Bill 188 hearing 10 am Legislative Building Room 1327 (This is in the Main Bldg. of the GA).

Voter ID Hearing next Tuesday

Just wanted to let you know that the big government liberals all over the state are starting to activate to organize against the common-sense Voter ID bill!

Despite recent polling data that shows over 80% of North Carolinians support the Voter ID bill and restoring faith and confidence in our elections, the big government liberals and special interest groups are trying to keep this bill from passing!

These big government liberals and special interest groups are planning to stage a huge rally at a public hearing in Raleigh next Tuesday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 643 of the Legislative Office Building.

Our Republican leaders in the General Assembly are cutting spending, cutting regulations on businesses, passed a bill to challenge the job-crushing “Obamacare” legislation but their efforts have been met by Governor Perdue’s veto stamp.

We need to spread the message – the common-sense Voter ID bill will restore faith and confidence in our elections!

Let’s show Governor Perdue that we stand with 80% of our fellow North Carolinians and want Voter ID to pass because we want confidence in future elections.

Please send this to everyone you know and let’s have a big turnout next Tuesday!

Hello friends and patriots,

Today I went to Raleigh with Hal and Raynor James to stand with fellow patriots in opposition to the leftist rally sponsored by moveon.org, SEIU, and company...so name "taking back the American dream". I just learned about this rally on Friday, so it was really a last ditch effort.

We were outnumbered, however we made up with enthusiasm on our side...and of course, facts. Our group was somewhat older and better behaved. In typical liberal fashion a number crossed the street to inform us dummies of the facts and how wrong we all are. (no one from our side crossed the street...we know a wasted effort when we see it.) We also received the tall finger salute on a number of occasions. The left seemed very angry, and accused us of being selfish and not caring about middle America. They had signs declaring that unions are the future of America, and democracy. I'm sure they have no idea that we are not a democracy, but a Constitutional republic. They had a number of printed signs...all of ours were hand made.

I must admit that I somewhat "lost" it with one of those who crossed the street. She was under the perception that it's all the corporations that don't pay taxes that are the problem, and failed to understand that corporations are made up of people that do pay taxes. Then she proceeded to inform us that our grandfathers were all members of unions. Not true in my case...mine were farmers.

I talked to many folks on our side. Even though all were in good spirits, many expressed their fear that this is the beginning of some nasty stuff, and they had never seen American so divided. (And that's after electing a President that was going to end division and cause the rivers to stop their rise, blah, blah, blah.)

I'm not going to chastise anyone, but I must say that we need to get even better organized or we will lose our country. We must do all we can to educate others, as many of those today came from local universities, and are unfamiliar with our Constitution and what made America great. Schools are feeling our children's heads with a false face of the past, present and future. They fail to understand the basics of Economics or human nature. They fail to see that they are pawns of the Democratic (progressive) party, and just keep paying those union dues, and spouting the party line.

We must start making the hard choices...how important is my country? We need to be a force to be heard. Get informed, talk to people, and do everything you can to make a difference.

Lastly, I can't tell you what a great time the three of us had. It's always so wonderful to talk to real people that love this country enough to travel (on their own dime) and speak up for our freedom. I hope many more of you will join us the next time...and I promise there will be a next time.

Yours in freedom,

Nancy Murdoch

Alert if you live in the Raleigh-Durham vicinity

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

The Durham City Council is meeting this coming Monday evening, Nov. 15th at 7:00 pm at 101 City Hall Plaza in Durham, and they are planning to vote to accept the Mexican Matricula Consular ID card as a legal form of ID in the city of Durham.

We all know the Mexican Matricula Consular ID card is only used in the USA by illegal immigrants attempting to thwart our immigration laws. If they were here legally they would have a passport or valid visa or green card. I believe the "real reason" is to attempt to do what has been done in certain instances on the West Coast -- to allow illegal immigrants the right to vote in local elections.

Why is the City of Durham concerned with helping the Mexican government and illegal immigrants stay in North Carolina in violation of our immigration laws? One would think the City of Durham would be more interested in assisting OUR Government and to make sure all jobs go to legal residents.

I will be speaking against this proposal at the Durham City Council meeting. Illegal immigrant advocates will be at the meeting, so we need you to attend in support of America and the rule of law. We need you to attend this meeting. If we don't take action, the other side wins.

Regards,

Ron Woodard
