Obama Promised To Buy Solyndra's Solar Panels for Gov't Buildings

Less than three months after President Barack Obama's May 26, 2010 visit to the Solyndra plant in Fremont, Calif., a Solyndra investor claimed in an e-mail to the company's new CEO, Brian Harrison, that during Obama's visit he had personally witnessed the president "actually promise" the company's previous CEO, Chris Gronet, that he would "look into" having the federal government buy Solyndra's solar panels to place on federal buildings.

Americans for Prosperity: American Workers aren't Political Pawns!

In late 2010 the Obama Administration asked Solyndra to hold off announcing massive worker layoffs until after the November 2010 elections. Those 1,100 workers had no idea that they would be fired. Today 90% of those workers remain unemployed. Taxpayer dollars should never be used to subsidize political ideology, and this is a perfect example of what distorting the market place can do. As details of the green energy scam continue to come to light, we must tell President Obama: American workers aren't pawns in your political games.

Please take action now, and let the President know that American jobs and the economy are critical, and that you stand on the side of prosperity.

NC RENEGADE: 11 More Solyndras About to Crash – Obama Administration Says They “Expected” Failures (Video)

Posted: 13 Jan 2012

There are at least another 11 Solyndras in Obama’s backyard just ready to crash.
The Obama Administration said they knew that several of the companies would fail.
They built in $2.4 billion into the program for potential failures.
That’s criminal.

Solyndra was not an isolated incident. There are several green energy projects that are going to fail.

CBS reported:

Solar panel maker Solyndra received a $528 million Energy Department loan in 2009 – and went bankrupt last year. The government’s risky investment strategy didn’t stop there, as a CBS News investigation has uncovered a pattern of cases of the government pouring your tax dollars into clean energy.

Take Beacon Power — a green energy storage company. We were surprised to learn exactly what the Energy Department knew before committing $43 million of your tax dollars.

Documents obtained by CBS News show Standard and Poor’s had confidentially given the project a dismal outlook of “CCC-plus.”

Asked whether he’d put his personal money into Beacon, economist Peter Morici replied, “Not on purpose.”

“It’s, it is a junk bond,” Morici said. “But it’s not even a good junk bond. It’s well below investment grade.”

Was the Energy Department investing tax dollars in something that’s not even a good junk bond? Morici says yes.

“This level of bond has about a 70 percent chance of failing in the long term,” he said.

In fact, Beacon did go bankrupt two months ago and it’s unclear whether taxpayers will get all their money back. And the feds made other loans when public documents indicate they should have known they could be throwing good money after bad.

It’s been four months since the FBI raided bankrupt Solyndra. It received a half-billion in tax dollars and became a political lightning rod, with Republicans claiming it was a politically motivated investment.

CBS News counted 12 clean energy companies that are having trouble after collectively being approved for more than $6.5 billion in federal assistance. Five have filed for bankruptcy: The junk bond-rated Beacon, Evergreen Solar, SpectraWatt, AES’ subsidiary Eastern Energy and Solyndra.

Much more here.

For the record… Campaign contribution information from Open Secrets shows that Beacon Power’s CEO F. William Capp donated to both Barack Obama and two Massachusetts Democrats..

LIBERTY EXTRA: The Obama Energy Strangle-Hold on America

By Christopher G. Adamo

While the Obama Administration has worked tirelessly at minimizing the negative political fallout of its “green jobs” debacle (Solyndra being among the few that gained attention), the nation has yet to fully grasp just how devastating the Obama agenda has been to the overall condition of America’s energy resources and reserves. In a perverse sense, the ongoing economic downturn, persisting as it has for three years and with no end in sight, acts as something of a “safety valve” on the cost of gasoline and heating oil. The sole reason that the price at the pumps is not currently in the stratosphere is because the Obama economy has severely suppressed its use. Otherwise any rise in consumption would quickly exceed available supplies.

Thus, for those prices to remain low, the economic prognosis must remain grim. As soon as manufacturing activity heats up and traffic on the nation’s highways increases in response, the demand for fossil fuels will likewise increase, triggering an upswing in their cost. In a sane world, this rise would be shortly offset by an increased supply, thereby balancing out the situation. However, with Obama and his Democrat cohorts stifling every attempt at expanding production, and worse, placing entire regions such as the Gulf of Mexico off limits (at least to Americans), the lack of any new supply of crude oil to compensate for higher demand guarantees that even a tiny spark of resurgent economic life will immediately result in escalating fuel prices, which in turn chokes out the activity.

Obamacare = Obamajobkiller

With all the talk about Solyndra and Fast & Furious, it's easy to forget about the biggest Obama administration scandal of all: Obamacare. TheDC's Neil Munro reports on the latest unintended-yet-long-predicted consequence of the unpopular utopian legislation:

"President Barack Obama's health care reform law is already bleeding jobs from the nation's high-tech, high-wage medical device industry, but Senate Democrats aren't trying to close the wound, says Minnesota Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen. The 2010 law imposed a crippling 10-year, $20 billion tax on revenues — not on profits — earned by companies that make medical devices, such as catheters, artery-clearing stents, scalpels and pacemakers. The tax is prompting American companies to shed jobs, move factories overseas and reconsider niche-market research projects, said Paulson, whose district include medical device companies. No Senate Democrats are supporting his tax-repeal bill, even though many have medical devices companies in their districts, he said. 'They're the ones digging to protect Obamacare,' he told The Daily Caller. 'The administration will dig in and protect Obamacare at all costs, even if it looks like it is going to cause the layoff of 10 percent of the medical-device workforce, or 43,000 jobs,' said Paulson, who has gathered 218 House signatures for a bill to repeal the tax."

If those 43,000 people wanted to keep their jobs, they shouldn't have gone into an industry that helps the sick and saves lives. Besides, what good is creating jobs if it means some people have more money than other people?

Energy Department Caught Removing Energy Company’s Name From Old Press Releases

Thanks to CNBC, the Department of Energy has been caught removing references to “SunPower,” a solar energy company that was given $1.2 billion in loan guarantees, from old press releases (H/T Hotair).

“The changes occurred in two press releases from the Department of Energy’s loan guarantee program — the same program that has been the center of controversy surrounding the failed solar company Solyndra,” reports Eamon Javers of CNBC.

“Both were changed to remove the name of a company that has received negative press attention in recent days, SunPower, and replace it with the name of another company, NRG Energy,” he added.

BREAKING: White House Pressured OMB to Approve Solyndra Loan Before Due Diligence Complete

September 14, 2011

Things are going from bad to worse for the White House on the Solyndra collapse. It is embarrassing enough for the President that his highly touted “green jobs” stimulus success story folded like a cheap suit leaving 1100 people out of jobs and leaving the tax payers with a bill upwards of half a billion dollars. Now, the Washington Post is reporting that political officials in the White House pressured the OMB to approve the massive federal loan to Solyndra before the OMB’s due diligence was complete:

Massive Taxpayer-Backed Solar Panel Manufacturer Goes Bankrupt

Despite $535 million taxpayer dollars for loan guarantees and a speech from the President himself praising its success, the solar panel manufacturer Solyndra has gone bankrupt.

NBC reported the Chapter 11 filing is official, which means Solyndra‘s state-of-the-art, 300,000 square foot front-end manufacturing factory and a 500,000 square foot back-end facility are kaput for now.

Bloomberg News reported that the company’s reasons for the Chapter 11 Filing are “market and industry conditions.”

Apparently, the workers at Solyndra had no idea the company was in dire straits. As NBC wrote of their moment of recognition:
