SUN JOURNAL LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Liberal double standards by CCTA VICE CHAIRMAN, NANCY MURDOCH

2011-10-21

When members of the Tea Party voiced their concerns about the direction President Obama is taking the United States, we were called racist among other vile things. Now we have a black man, descendent of slaves, running for president as a GOP conservative and he is being attacked as not being a true black man, a traitor to his race, an Uncle Tom, and worse. Instead of being a race baiter the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, he has become a model of what hard work and education can achieve, regardless of your background or circumstances.

Paul Field, in a recent letter, criticized Mr. Cain because of his lack of political experience. Exactly what kind of experience did the current occupant of the White House have? A community organizer with close ties to unions and people of questionable character (the Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers) does not make for a great resume. Presumably he’s very smart, but no one seems to have any proof other than his adeptness with a teleprompter. Mr. Obama has never run as much as a lemonade stand, but the American people saw fit to elect him to head the largest economy in the world.

I would be careful stating every GOP front-runner has been betrayed by his/her own words. Obama made promises when he was running for election too, and most have fallen by the wayside: getting out of the wars (he’s added another), closing Gitmo (no), transparency (joke), no lobbyists (he hired many) and others too long to list. I will say he’s still working on that redistributing the wealth thing by fanning the fires of class envy.
lthe Civil Rights Act was a noble thing, and the Democrats love to take credit for it. However, limited knowledge of history does not change it. Eisenhower was instrumental in enforcing integration, and even though Johnson was president when the Civil Rights Act was passed, 80 percent of the GOP voted for it and only 63% of the Democrats. The 13th Amendment (ending slavery) had 100 percent support of the GOP; only 23% of Democrats. And the 15th Amendment (the right to vote) garnered 100 percent of the GOP vote with a big goose egg for the Democrats.

It makes perfect sense that Herman Cain is a Republican. As he said, perhaps some blacks have been “brainwashed”.
