A Once Free Nation

February 25, 2014 by Bob Livingston

A once free nation’s descent into tyranny occurs one of two ways: either through sudden violent revolution or gradually over decades in fits and starts. America’s has occurred gradually.
Government conquers its citizens with gradualism because few understand it. Gradualism is imperceptible force.

America has evolved into a lawless state. There has been a breakdown of law and order, but only a few can see it. There are many layers of deception and those few who have become alerted see and understand at different levels.

The first trigger of alert is when a few people come to understand that government is organized crime and that government is in all-out war with its own citizens. The central purpose of Personal Liberty Digest™ is to raise the awareness of the people.

The U.S. Congress has, gradually, ceded its authority to the President and to the alphabet soup agencies of government that it created or allowed the President to create. Now the President rewrites laws on a whim, or chooses to not enforce them on a whim. This is the stuff of third-world banana republics. The imperial presidency feared by the Founding Fathers is in full operation. Yet the feckless Congress hardly whimpers about it and the people do little more than shrug their collective shoulders.

NAPOLITANO: Congress’ unconscionable silence at president’s power grabs--Obama becomes imperial president without Republican resistance

Washington Times, by Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, February 19, 2014

The political philosopher Edmund Burke once remarked that all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good folks to do nothing.

A glaring example of the impending triumph of a constitutional evil that could be stopped by folks who have been largely silent is the tyranny coming from the White House. The folks who can stop this and are doing nothing about it are our elected representatives in Congress.
The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It established the three branches of government, and it delegated “all legislative powers” to Congress.

American law rarely uses the word “all.” Yet the Framers chose that word precisely to confine the writing of law to Congress and to prevent a president from altering federal law by the selective manner of law enforcement and thereby effectively rewriting it.

The Framers sought to guard against the same evils by compelling the president to swear at the commencement of his terms in office that he will “faithfully” enforce the laws.

The debt ceiling: We were tricked, y’all!

The Daily Haymaker, by Brant Clifton,
American Hustle is not just lighting up the movie screens.  It’s playing out on Capitol Hill as well.
Following last week’s disgraceful surrender by House Republicans on the debt ceiling, we got all kinds of stories about how Howard Coble was the only NCGOPer to vote for Boehner’s bill.  Actually, it appears that most Republicans voted to allow others to raise the debt limit, and then turned around and voted against the debt ceiling increase.  Like John Kerry, they were FOR it, before they were AGAINST it.

How did this all go down? Pull up a chair.  Class is in session.

Obama: Immigration reform will get done by end of presidency

The Hill, By Justin Sink, February 14, 2014

President Obama predicted that Congress would pass an immigration reform bill before the end of his presidency in a Univision Radio interview airing Friday.

“I believe it will get done before my presidency is over,” the president said. “I’d like to get it done this year.”

While the Senate passed a comprehensive immigration bill in a bipartisan vote last year, efforts in the House had faltered. Republican leaders earlier this year outlined a series of principles that appeared to indicate they were open to pursuing immigration reform.

We Are No Longer A Representative Republic

Tea Party Nation, by David DeGerolamo on February 12, 2014

Congress approved the elimination of the debt ceiling today and the pResident is expected to sign it quickly into law. The Republican "leadership" in both the House (John Boehner) and the Senate (Mitch McConnell) supported this measure to abandon their fiduciary responsibility to spend our money without any oversight or restraint.

If our elected officials are not representing their constituents, the Constitution or the rule of law, how can any believe that we are a representative Republic? And once we accept the reality, what is our course of action? The government has already labelled Constitutionalists, Christians and veterans as domestic terrorists. The IRS has targeted selected individuals and Tea Party groups without any repercussions. The NSA has implemented an illegal surveillance system that is the envy of every repressive regime in the world.

Obama moving on minimum wage hike

The Hill, Justin Sink, February 12, 2014

President Obama will sign an executive order formally raising the minimum wage for federal workers during an event Wednesday at the White House.

The move, first announced during the State of the Union address, will raise the minimum wage for federal workers hired under new contracts to $10.10 per hour. It will also raise the tipped minimum wage to $4.90 from $2.13 per year, with an escalator clause that will increase that amount in subsequent years.

Obama will also press Congress to match the executive order with an equivalent hike to the federal minimum wage, the White House said Tuesday. According to a source familiar with the event, the president will appear alongside workers who are paid at or just above the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.

Thom and Bru: Mutual back-scratching at its best

The Daily Haymaker, by Brant Clifton • February 11, 2014

Thom Tillis and Harold Brubaker have quite a special political bond. They are the only two Republican speakers of the North Carolina House since Reconstruction.  The two became very close upon Tillis joining the House in 2006.  On the eve of Brubaker’s 2012 departure from the House to take up lobbying, Tillis publicly described Brubaker as “my mentor, a trusted colleague, and a dear friend.”

It’s 2014 and Harold Brubaker is going gangbusters in his lobbying business.  What’s intriguing is how much influence he appears to still have in the speaker’s office TWO YEARS after leaving office.

#NCSEN #NCGA: 2012 Tillis House campaign accepted $4K from wife of figure in federal bribery case

The Daily Haymaker, by Brant Clifton, February 10, 2014

North Carolina state House speaker Thom Tillis has established quite a reputation as a prolific fundraiser. He’s been credited with providing the ammo needed for the GOP to take over the legislature.  He’s tapping that skill to fuel his current campaign for the US Senate.

One particular contribution in 2012 to Tillis’ House campaign has ties to a North Carolina political scandal that broke in 2003 and ended in federal court in 2010.  Documents on file with the North Carolina State Board of Elections indicate Jane Wright of Wake Forest donated $4,000 to the Tillis House campaign in October 2012.   She is the wife of Thomas R. “Ricky” Wright, who made news in 2003:

Congressional Investigation: Treasury, IRS, HHS Conspired To Create An Unauthorized, Half-Trillion Dollar Entitlement

You really need to read the full article to get the details and the impact!

Forbes, Michael F. Cannon, February 10, 2014

Last week, two congressional committees issued a little-noticed report detailing how Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service, and Health and Human Services officials conspired to create a massive new entitlement not authorized anywhere in federal law.

In the summer of 2012, the House of Representatives’ Committee on Oversight & Government Reform and Committee on Ways & Means launched an investigation to determine “whether IRS and Treasury conducted an adequate review of the statute and legislative history prior to coming to [the] conclusion that [the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act's] premium subsidies would be allowed in federal exchanges.” Over the next 18 months, the committees held numerous hearings with senior Treasury and IRS officials, while investigative staff conducted interviews with key agency attorneys responsible for developing the regulations in question. Investigators also reviewed what few documents Treasury and IRS officials allowed them to see.

#NCSEN: Apparently, what was BAD for Liddy Dole is O-KAY for Kay

The Daily Haymaker, by Brant Clifton •

Democrats in DC and in Raleigh are working overtime to pull Senator Sock Puppet’s chestnuts out of the fire. They’ve put out this spin about Kay Hagan being one of the most moderate voices in DC — because she only votes with Barry Obama 96 percent of the time.  Over at The N&O, John Drescher’s shih-tzu ran with that spin like it was a little rubber ball.

My, how times change.  In 2008, when state senator and Democrat US Senate nominee Kay Hagan was running against incumbent Republican Elizabeth Dole,  ol’ Kay had this to say:

#NCSEN: If you pay him, he will come.

Sthomfoldtate House speaker and US Senate candidate Thom Tillis has been catching some flak from GOP activists — and finally from the mainstream media — for skipping out on candidate debates in the GOP primary race.  His people are promising that he will show up in the same room with his opponents some time before May.
In the meantime, he found a few minutes in his “busy” schedule —while the House is out of session — to appear at a press conferencefeaturing home health care interests seeking changes in ObamaCare. It’s interesting he is showing so much more passion for tinkering with the existing law than he did for the NCGA refusing health exchanges,or for Ted Cruz’s defund ObamaCare effort.
(O-Care doesn’t need to be tinkered with.  It needs to be completely trashed.  Before it finally trashes our economy and our country.)

Obama's Executive Order Tyranny

How dangerous is a president who wants to rule by pen and phone?

Judge Andrew Napolitano, Reason.com, February 6, 2014

Can the president legally bypass Congress and rule the government by decree?

The answer to the question above is: No. But you wouldn't know that by listening to President Obama. In the past three weeks, the president has made it clear how he plans to run the executive branch of the federal government in the next three years: with a pen and a phone.
In a menacing statement at a cabinet meeting last month, as well as during his recent State of the Union address and in a pre-Superbowl interview with my Fox News colleague Bill O'Reilly, the president has referred to his pen and his phone as a way of suggesting that he will use his power to issue executive orders, promulgate regulations and use his influence with his appointees in the government's administrative agencies to continue the march to transform fundamentally the relationship of the federal government and individuals to his egalitarian vision when he is unable to accomplish that with legislation from Congress.
He has carried out that threat already. In June 2012, facing a presidential election campaign that he feared he might lose and wishing to keep socially conservative Hispanics from voting for Mitt Romney, the president directed the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) -- the same folks who failed miserably at rolling out Obamacare -- to establish standards of behavior for millions of illegal immigrants, which, if followed to the government's satisfaction, would get them off of government deportation lists.

The pork Congress approves is just the tip of the spending iceberg

THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER
BY  | JANUARY 30, 2014

Not sure what to buy the millionaire golfer who has everything? For Sen. Rob Portman, Ohio Republican, the answer was a $30,000 gold medal for Jack Nicklaus, at taxpayer expense.
Or what's behind an obscure bill to funnel federal funds to chiropractors?

Perhaps that's answered by the seven contributions from the American Chiropractic Association to the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Gene Green, D-Texas, in the months before the legislation was introduced. Three more contributions came afterwards.

Congress may be deadlocked and unproductive, but that doesn't mean lawmakers aren’t trying to spend tax dollars. In fact, the dysfunction is what keeps them from spending far more of it.
Most of the public's attention focuses on bills that are are about to become law and that enact significant changes.

Obama Says, "It's Redistribution, Stupid"

TPN—Marcia Wood, January 11, 2014

Redistribution - Stealing from the Taxpayer's

The big question for Americans – how do we stop the bloody spending by Obama, Democrats and Republicans?  Here’s a brief preview of the past five years and a glimpse of the future.

So much for our daily dose of lies from Obama, his administration and the Liberal News media – as a Nation we the people deserve some respect, honesty and solutions for major problems.  While we sit here suffering the headlines today tout that half of Congressional Lawmakers are millionaires, some actually acquired their money legitimately via investments or personal businesses.

There are many, in Congress who use their position merely to pad their pockets, enjoy the Government perks and live high on the hog off of taxpayer’s money and draw a sizable lifetime retirement.  They’re not worth their salt and definitely are a detriment to Americans and America. I refer to them as “Leeches,” the ones who just go along for a free ride on taxpayer’s money.

Look at Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the Liberals – they’re the perfect “Stereotypes of Socialism” for a Government gone bad.  They don’t give a “d---“about their Country – in fact they don’t give a “damn” about the poverty stricken, African Americans who are struggling or the Hispanics.

They all have one and only one goal in mind – they want to dominate, control and dictate via “Big Government.”  They manipulate the news, prepare the canned speeches for the Liberal News Media and give us a dose of the poison tonic called Socialism every day since 2009.
Here are a few examples of their devious techniques and lies that have harmed our children, grandchildren, adult children and all Americans.

IRS to get 'license to kill' groups that oppose Obama agenda

The Washington Times, January 7, 2014 — The Internal Revenue Service is getting a special new power: a “license to kill” group that oppose the Obama agenda. James Bond’s license to kill isn’t nearly as broad.

The power to tax is the power to destroy. Its new powers will let the IRS destroy certain groups, especially those connected to the Tea Party, by imposing a tax on their work and messages during campaign seasons. Even the value of volunteer work could be taxed.

Suspicion traces the plan directly to President Barack Obama, since he personally met with IRS chief counsel William Wilkins — an Obama political appointee and long-time supporter — in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on April 23, 2012, two days before the IRS issued its key internal directives to target Tea Party and other conservative groups.

Now, unless Congress acts quickly to block them, new IRS regulations will deliver a death penalty to many of almost 100,000 grass-roots non-profits known as 501(c)(4) groups. They often provide information to the public about political issues, befitting their tax requirement to benefit social welfare.

The IRS wants to create a new bureaucratic definition that re-labels those common voter information activities by re-naming them “candidate-related political activity.” For short, IRS calls it CRPA, but CRAP would fit better.

This is actually a gag rule. But the IRS’s new speech restrictions do not apply to labor unions, trade associations, political parties, or other non-profit groups such as 501(c)(3)’s. The impact is limited to the 501(c)(4)’s, which are the favorite vehicle for Tea Party groups.

The Left also has 501(c)(4) non-profits which could be muzzled by the new rules. But the Obama Administration is notorious for selective enforcement, meaning it could choose to give a pass to friendly groups while it puts conservatives out of business. They could use this in efforts to shut down groups like the Faith and Freedom Coalition, Club for Growth, Americans for Prosperity and the National Rifle Association, while ignoring People for the American Way, American Civil Liberties Union, USAction and the Democratic Leadership Council.

Time to pull out of LBJ’s War On Poverty

The Daily Haymaker, by Brant Clifton •
I think it was Albert Einstein who once said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

Statists in Congress are arguing — in the current unemployment insurance debate — that the government needs to spend even more money we don’t have to “help” those in economic distress.  Democrats in Raleigh’s General Assembly — aided by their media allies and The Round Rev’s Moral Monday rabble — are attacking Republicans for trying to get the state’s fiscal House in order and not turning the welfare spigot on full-throttle.

Liberals almost immediately protest any conventional military action by the United States. Yet, they have stuck with this so-called “War on Poverty” for 50 years.

The Heritage Foundation: The National Debt in One Picture

01/06/2014

Congress is beginning its new year with a budget deal that busts right through "caps" it was supposed to have on spending. At Heritage, we want to hold Congress accountable for its tax-and-spend ways, even as Members claim there's no room to cut.

A good place to start is understanding the mountain of debt Americans are already under. Check out and share our infographic that puts it in perspective.

Coming up in the U.S.House of Representatives

Cantor Lays Out January Legislative Agenda

Roll Call, by Emma Dumain, January 3, 2014

The House will have a busy January judging by the lengthy legislative agenda Majority Leader Eric Cantor circulated among his colleagues on Friday.

The Virginia Republican’s memo, obtained by 218, lays out the obvious items of business: passing conference reports for the farm bill and for legislation funding the nation’s water programs, plus an appropriations bill for the remainder of fiscal 2014.

The GOP-run House will also continue to assail the president’s health care law, starting next week with a measure to address potential security breaches on HealthCare.gov. Cantor released a memo on that specific priority on Thursday.

Cantor also told lawmakers to familiarize themselves with other initiatives that could come to the floor in the weeks ahead, such as a possible Iran sanctions resolution that has been on the back-burner since late last year.

You want your tax break (or credit) extended? Better give to the right congress people

Folks, this is how it works!  This is our elected representatives prosper.  They create, manipulate and change laws to suit who ever has the money to contribute to their Campaigns and PACs.

By Nick Sorrentino on

This is a nice little game (and revenue stream) for Congress. Tax breaks and tax credits come up for renewal every year and the beneficiaries of these favors queue up to throw campaign dollars and other gifts at the feet of Washington politicians – every year.

It’s crony capitalist genius. Why write something permanently into the code and only get paid once when Congress can turn political favors into a subscription service?
Remember the old adage. Never kill a sheep. Shear it over and over.

OBAMA´S VIOLATIONS OF OUR CONSTITUTION AND ELECTION FRAUD

December 25, 2013 by Frank de Varona

Barack Obama is a rogue president who has used tyrannical executive orders and government regulations to bypass Congress. He has no respect of our Constitution. In 2001 Obama said that “the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties full of constrains imposed upon us by our Founding Fathers.” Obama hates those “constraints” since he wants to govern in a dictatorial manner.

Obama has made our Constitution and Congress irrelevant. Obama announced his “We Can´t Wait” campaign in 2011 by stating the following: “We can´t wait for an increasingly dysfunctional Congress to do its job. Where they won´t act, I will.” Obama has virtually declared himself a dictator by announcing that he intends to govern by executive fiat. He has destroyed the Constitution separation and balance of powers  provisions by naming 45 radical White House czars with enormous powers, who are not subject to congressional oversight or approval of the Senate.
