Speciale Wins in NC District 3,



ELECTION 2012: House races: Speciale in District 3, District 10 too close to call

The third time was a charm for Craven County’s former GOP chairman Michael Speciale as he stumped to victory in the 2012 Republican Primary race for N.C. House District 3.


But the N.C. House District 10 race was too close to call by press time early Wednesday morning.

Speciale beat out two political newcomers, Wayne Langston of Chocowinity and Clayton Tripp of Vanceboro for the November ballot spot facing Democrat Robert Burns Cayton of Aurora, who did not have primary opposition.

Beaufort and Pamlico counties were final and Speciale was well ahead in Craven County and said, “I believe we’ve got it. It’s been a good night. Most of the candidates I was pulling for pulled through. It makes you proud to be a Republican.”

Speciale sought the District 3 seat in 2004 and upset the incumbent Republican House member in the primary but lost in the General Election, and made another unsuccessful run in 2006.

“This particular time is different from others,” Speciale said. “This whole campaign is about liberty.”

He complimented his opponents on “a clean campaign.”

Langston had spent most of Election Day campaigning in Craven County for the seat that formerly included just Pamlico and Craven but gained Beaufort County with redistricting. He was going to Vanceboro to watch his daughter’s softball game before stopping to hear returns
