I got a lot of questions about Obama's "apology" and when Romney went public with his statements.
The US Embassy in Cairo released a statement early on apologizing for the short film ("We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others") as the protests were heating up there, but before the militant attacks in Libya. It re-affirmed that statement up until the time the Egytian embassy was taken and the American flag was taken down and burned and the terrorists were getting organized in Libya. Obama didn't issue a statement. The White House, just as the US embassy in Libya was being attacked, put out a statement saying that the embassy statement was not cleared by the White House and did not represent its policy. But it did not say anything else and did not condemn the attacks. Shortly after that, Romney offered his words.
The following day, after he chose to skip a State Department briefing and before sticking around to learn the fate of Chris Stevens and the others, he headed out to campaign in Vegas.
Obama never actually came out himself to apologize, but the words of those under him represent his official position. Plus he never spoke to the contrary. Only Romney stood up for America's freedom.
I've written up a summary which is attached and which I posted on my website --
