Letter to the Editor: Sunday Voting Craven County

I have just learned that the NC State Board of Elections (NCBOE) has agreed to allow citizens to vote on two Sundays during the month of October.

I was extremely disappointed at the ruling, especially after our county board by majority, had voted against the measure.

Sunday voting is just one more stab at Christianity period. As it now stands we have several voting options for those who find it difficult to vote on Election Day.

Option 1) For those who are unable to leave their home or place of residence, they can request an absentee ballot that can be filled out, signed by a witness and sent in. No travel necessary all done through our postal service from the comforts of home.

Option 2) For those that can travel but are handicapped, you can go to the drive up area for voting. A poll member will come to you in your vehicle bringing a ballot and then return your ballot in to the polling station.

Option 3) For those who can not vote on Election Day, early voting is done throughout the counties offering many different voting opportunities and times.

Option 4) Election Day itself, for those who don’t mind the lines and prefer to vote on the big day.

With that said there is NEVER a reason for an individual not to vote due to voting inability.

As I write this, we have men and women overseas literally fighting and dying so that those in other countries can have the right to a free country. Some of those countries, Iraq for example, have just allowed their citizen’s to vote for the first time in their lives. These people WALKED to polling locations in extreme weather, risking their own lives and the lives of their families, some were actually killed trying to exercise their new freedom. But the ones who survived were proudly showing their purple fingers to the cameras with enormous smiles on their faces professing freedom.

What is wrong with Americans who have so many opportunities yet take every one of them for granted!?

“And on the 7th day thou shalt rest”. “Remember the Sabbath, to keep it Holy”, “A Holy day, a Sabbath rest to the Lord”, “You shall keep My Sabbath’s and reverence My sanctuary; I am the Lord”,

I could go on for entire pages about what Scripture says about the Sabbath and the rest on it, the Holiness of it and the adherence to it. When we eat at restaurants on Sunday’s we promote business on that day, when we shop on Sunday’s we promote business on that day, when we do anything but rest and enjoy our families on Sunday’s we are going against what He told us, so now government entities are allowing political endeavors on Sunday’s. Is there any wonder why?

We, myself included, are to blame.  I pray not a single sole shows up to vote on Sunday’s. I pray individuals who claim the title of Christian will see the truth behind this as with the no prayer in Christ’s name at public meetings, no prayer at educational sports or other events, no public building displaying the 10 Commandments and so on. I also pray that Christian’s will read God’s word for themselves, not taking anyone’s word for it, including mine, seeing for themselves what He requires of us, “If you love me, keep my commandments…”
