1. Federal Spending has MORE THAN TRIPLED since 1965 with LBJ's "Great Society"/"War on Poverty", and NEARLY DOUBLED since 1980 with Jim Wright's & Tip O'Neil's "We just wanna help ya' " DNC Congress.
2. There CURRENTLY are 342 SEPARATE Gov. programs "for" Economic Growth- yeah, I put for in ""...cuz that hasn't worked so good has it?!!
3. There CURRENTLY 130 SEPARATE Gov. programs to "help" the disabled- yeah, help in "" for the same reason.
4. There CURRENTLY 130 SEPARATE Gov. programs to "help" at-risk youth...(oh, & noticed that's the 3rd time I said CURRENTLY BECAUSE the way Obama, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid are going this will QUADRUPLE soon.)
5. Through Gov. Waste, Fraud & Incompotence, the Federal Gov. spent MORE THAN $25,000 PER HOUSEHOLD IN 2008!!! BLIMEY! If the Gov. had just GIVEN US the $25,000 we'd better off!!! Besides IT'S OUR MONEY ANYWAY!!! And that figure is UP $4,000 since 2001 when it was a "paltry" $21,000 PER HOUSEHOLD!
6. The Budget DEFICIT- SO FAR- this year IS $1.8 TRILLION!!! And the year isn't over yet! Just the "stimulus" bill (2009/2010) ALONE dumps $6,700 PER HOUSEHOLD of NEW DEBT into the laps of OUR Children and GRAND CHILDREN!
7. THIS YEAR ALONE in California the Gov. will "spend"/WASTE $200,000 on TATTOO REMOVAL, $870,000 on a Red Wolf Breeding Facility, oh and $1.7 MILLION on a SWINE ODOR "RESEARCH"!!! This is ONE State! ONE year!!!
8. The U.S. Gov. THIS YEAR has spent $4,545,000 for "WOOD UTILIZATION RESEARCH"!! Since 1985 we've WASTED $90 MILLION ON THIS "RESEARCH"!!! Crikey! Who's doing this "research?!! The Amish?!!! I think we KNOW HOW to "utilize WOOD"!!

A Message from NC Congressman Walter Jones

Dear Fellow Eastern North Carolinian,
This is a critical time for Eastern North Carolina, our nation, and our armed forces. As we begin this new session of the 112th Congress, I wanted to quickly brief you on what President Barack Obama is proposing, why I think he is badly off the mark, and ways that I believe we can responsibly address the deficit while still preserving and modernizing our military strength.
I don’t need to remind you that America is $15 trillion in debt and running annual deficits of over $1 trillion. Last week the Obama Administration rolled out a new budget proposal to cut military spending by $487 billion over 10 years. Meanwhile, last year’s compromise bill to raise the debt ceiling – which I strongly opposed and voted against – requires an additional $500 billion in military “sequestration” cuts over 10 years starting in 2013.
While there is no doubt that there are billions of dollars of wasteful spending in the Defense Department (DOD), and that taxpayers’ money must be spent much more efficiently, I oppose both the President’s defense cut proposal and the ‘military’ sequestration cuts, and I’d like you to know the reasons why.
I make no apologies for being a leader in the fight to cut wasteful federal spending and eliminate the debt. Among other things, I have been a champion of and always voted for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution; I voted against the President’s $1 trillion ‘stimulus’; I voted against the bailouts for Wall Street and Detroit; I voted against every foreign aid bill in the last 16 years; I was one of only 8 members to vote against the pork-filled Highway Bill that included the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere”; I voted against Obamacare; and I am proud to be the only member of the House of Representatives to have voted against every single increase in the debt limit in the past 8 years.
Going forward, I believe there are many steps we should be taking to eradicate deficit spending and the debt. Those steps include eliminating foreign aid, the Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the taxpayer bailouts of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and profligate European governments; repealing Obamacare; and downsizing many other federal agencies. But attempting to balance the budget through devastating, disproportionate cuts to our military is not the way to go.
Before the Obama Administration even thinks about proposing to take jobs, services and benefits away from our troops and veterans, or about slashing crucial programs like the F-35B fighter jet – two cost reduction proposals which I have strongly opposed throughout my career in Congress – they need to eliminate the waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars in the Pentagon.
For instance, did you know that DOD has never audited its own books even though it was statutorily required to do so over 20 years ago? As a result, a recent DOD Inspector General (IG) report demonstrated that wasteful spending at the Pentagon is out of control. In some cases taxpayers are paying nearly $1700 for items that cost $7. That’s ridiculous! Finalizing the audit of DOD and reforming the defense procurement process to cut wasteful spending and give taxpayers more bang for their buck should be this Administration’s top priority – reducing pay, benefits and services for our troops and veterans and making major cuts to the F-35B should be off the table.
I also oppose the Administration’s request for another round of domestic military base closures (BRAC). Amazingly, right now, President Obama is opening a new base in Australia and increasing our military presence in the Philippines – while at the same time threatening to close bases in the United States. The fact is that DOD already has 622 overseas sites. Before anyone talks about closing bases here at home, we need to evaluate and eliminate any overseas sites that are no longer in our national security interest.
Finally, it is no secret that I disagree with President Obama’s decision to keep our troops in Afghanistan through 2014. America is borrowing $10 billion a month from the Chinese and other foreigners – over $120 billion a year – and then sending that money back overseas to spend on that operation. At a time when this nation is over $15 trillion in debt, we simply can’t afford it. The reality is that if the President weren’t spending that money in Afghanistan, military spending reductions of any kind would be much, much less necessary.
Since being elected to Congress in 1994, I have taken my responsibility to represent Eastern North Carolina’s values seriously. As one of the most senior members of the House Armed Services Committee, I fully understand how critical our military facilities are to our economy and way of life. During the last BRAC round in 2005, I was able to use that seniority to successfully protect Camp Lejeune Marine Base, Cherry Point Marine Air Station, the Naval Air Depot at Cherry Point (NADEP) and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. And with this seniority I will have significant input into how the recent defense cut proposals play out. Please rest assured that I will use my position to continue to do everything in my power to fight for Eastern North Carolina’s military installations and for the courageous men and women – past, present and future – who protect our freedom.

Barack Obama's 32 Month Report Card by Rich Carroll

Mr. Hope and Change wants to create a nation humbled; humiliated, casting-aside capitalism and individual freedoms for one where we the people are government controlled. This would be a system that genuflects mediocrity, steals personal aspiration and opportunity, and punishes those who strive to succeed.
A gallon of regular gasoline the day Obama was inaugurated was $1.79 on average in the U.S. Today that price is $3.59, a 100.6% increase. The number of food stamp recipients has risen since Obama took office from 31,983,716 to 43,200,878, a 35.1% jump. Long term unemployment soared 146.2% during the same 32 month period from 2,600,000 to 6,400,000. Staggering hope and change isn't it?
American citizens living in poverty have risen 9.5% from 39,800,000 to 43,600,000, and the number of unemployed has jumped almost 25% from 11,616,000 to 14,485,000 as of August 31, 2011. The number of unemployed blacks has risen from 12.6% at the end of George Bush's term to 15.8% today, a 25.4% increase, and finally, our national debt is up 34.4% from 10.627 trillion to 14,278 trillion *
Keep these figures in mind as we recount the number of firsts for this presidency:
First President to refuse to show a valid birth certificate.
First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.
First President to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in.
First President to preside over a cut to the credit rating of the United States .
First President to violate the War Powers Act.
First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico .
First President to defy a Federal Judges court order to cease implementing the Health Care Reform Law.
First President to require all Americans to purchase a product from a third party.
First President to spend a trillion dollars on shovel-ready jobs and later admit there was no such thing as shovel-ready jobs.
First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters.
First President to by-pass Congress and implement the Dream Act through executive fiat.
First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants across the U.S. , including those with criminal convictions.
First President to demand a company hand-over $20 billion to one of his political appointees.
First President to terminate Americas ability to put a man in space.
First President to encourage racial discrimination and intimidation at polling places.
First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.
First President to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.
First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly speak-out on the reasons for their rate increases.
First President to tell a major manufacturing company in which state they are allowed to locate a factory.
First President to file lawsuits against the states he swore an oath to protect (AZ, WI, OH, IN)
First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.
First President to fire an inspector general of Ameri-corps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case.
First President to appoint 45 Czars to replace elected officials in his office.
First President to golf over 90 separate times in his first three years in office.
First President to hide his medical, educational and travel records.
First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it.
First President to coddle American enemies while alienating Americas allies.
First President to publicly bow to Americas enemies while refusing to salute the U.S. Flag.
First President to go on multiple global apology tours.
First President to go on 17 lavish vacations, including date nights and Wednesday evening White House parties for his friends, paid for by the taxpayer.
First President to refuse to wear the U.S. Flag lapel pin.
First President to have 22 personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife.
First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000.00 a year at taxpayer expense.
First President to repeat the Holy Qur'an tells us, and openly admit the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth.
Remember that 32 months of Obama White House we the people have accumulated national debt at a rate more than 27 times as fast as during the rest of our nation's entire history, as the Obama's plan their next extravagant vacation to the Indonesian Island nation of Bali ..

DEBT
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our governments’ reckless fiscal policies.”
The above quote can be attributed to then-Sen. Barack Obama on March 16, 2006. It would appear that he is singing a different song these days.
Perhaps someone is celebrating a victory, but there’s no victory for the American people, especially for future generations. I figure it would be equivalent to a family earning $40,000 a year to make the decision to cut $400 from their annual budget in order to make ends meet. But it’s a moot point, as in the eight days that the budget was debated, $50 billion was borrowed — the cut was less than that.
The problem is not an income issue — it’s a spending issue. The poor and the wealthy are on the entitlement program. Tax cuts are given for raising vicuna and buying golf carts. Put in some solar panels and you get a tax break. Buy a hybrid vehicle and get a tax cut. The government subsidizes ethanol so we burn our food. The list seems never ending. Money is given to every special interest group able to gain access to an elected official. So much for having a government of and by the people; that’s a pipe dream now. And the sad part is that a number of our citizens refuse to see what is happening because so far their ox hasn’t been gored.
The problem didn’t originate in Washington, DC. Our states, counties and cities are playing the same game. The usual excuse is “if we don’t get it (the Federal money), then someone else will”. Do they think the money grows on the cherry trees in D.C.? For example, we have the Craven County “lottery.” Through some kind of unknown criteria, certain citizens get repairs made to their houses, and at times, even have said homes replaced — all on the taxpayers’ dime. The largesse of our elected officials is overwhelming. And I’m sure that this generosity with other people’s money is happening in every county in the United States.
There are no easy solutions, but if our country is to survive we better find one. Unfortunately, no political party has a monopoly on hypocrisy. Promises made while campaigning are soon forgotten, and reelection begins as soon as one enters office. We must diligently make our voices heard, and remember the words of Thomas Jefferson: “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”

OBAMA RELEASED BUDGET ON MONDAY (Includes 15 Tax Hikes)
President Barack Obama sent Congress a $3.73 trillion spending blueprint that pledges $1.1 trillion in deficit savings over the next decade through spending cuts and tax increases. The projected savings would be dwarfed by the $7.21 trillion in cumulative deficits over that 10-year period.
Obama’s new budget projects that the deficit for the current year will surge to an all-time high of $1.65 trillion. For 2012, the administration sees the imbalance declining to $1.1 trillion, giving the country a record four straight years of $1 trillion-plus deficits.
Obama would achieve two-thirds of his projected $1.1 trillion in deficit savings through spending cuts including a five-year freeze on many domestic programs. The other one-third of the savings would come from tax increases, including limiting tax deductions for high income taxpayers, a proposal Obama put forward last year only to have it rejected in Congress.
The Obama budget recommendation, which is certain to be changed by Congress, would spend $3.73 trillion in the 2012 budget year, which begins Oct. 1, a reduction of 2.4 percent from what Obama projects will be spent in the current budget year. The Obama plan would fall far short of the $4 trillion in deficit cuts recommended in a December report by his blue-ribbon deficit commission. Obama’s efforts are timid at best and include new increased spending in several areas including selected areas of education, biomedical research, energy efficiency, high-speed rail and other areas Obama judged to be important to the country’s future competitiveness in a global economy.
THE SPENDING DEBATE BEGINS IN CONGRESS THIS WEEK
This past week the Senate continued debating the Federal Aviation Admin. bill but mostly was in recess while Senate Democrats conducted their legislative agenda retreat in Charlottesville, VA. What emerged from their multiple-day retreat was a clear message that they intend to attack the GOP as they construct their budget cutting Omnibus appropriations bill which will continue the funding of our Federal Government through the end of this fiscal year. (Sept.30, 2011). This Continuing resolution or CR as it is commonly called will be the subject of debate on the House side and some talk on the Senate side this coming week. The Senate Majority Leader said on the Senate floor last week that the Congress needs to concentrate on the “quality of the cuts not the quantity.” He went on to say that the cuts should not “take teachers out of the classroom or police officers off the streets.” This theme will be echoed throughout the halls of Congress beginning this week as the Senate resumes the Federal Aviation administration bill, the House begins action on the Omnibus spending bill and the President submits his annual budget to Congress Monday, Feb. 14.

The House of Representatives will vote this week on a measure that will begin defunding ObamaCare! That initiative coupled with two proposed pro-life bills make this session of Congress one of the most promising pro-life sessions in many, many years.

Eroding Constitution
One of the most frustrating comments I hear goes something like this: “That couldn’t happen here … this is America” or “I trust the American people” or “I believe in the American people.”
Why do some Americans have this total disconnect from reality? The effects of a tyrannical government, unsustainable debt, and an entitlement society apply to the United States just like they do elsewhere around the globe. We are not immune from the consequences of an over-reaching government. In fact, a review of history shows that we have already suffered the plight of an all powerful government and its attempt to control or protect us from ourselves.
Woodrow Wilson (a Democrat) was active in changing the course of history through actions that were unconstitutional and downright despicable. Wilson, a Princeton elitist, thought the Constitution was a backward document, and ignored it as much as possible. A racist as well, he set back race relations decades by segregating the military and federal workers. During World War I he interred American citizens with German heritage because he considered them dangerous, completely ignoring the Fifth Amendment. And we can thank Wilson for the 16th and 17th amendments. Both gave more power to the federal government and ignored the intent of the Constitution. (The good American people did nothing.)
In an attempt to be the moral compass for the rest of us, the “Progressives” passed the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. The elites decided that alcohol was evil, and the nation would no longer produce, sell or import alcohol. That really worked out, didn’t it? Soon we had a new class of criminals, intent on subverting the law, and 14 years later the 18th Amendment was repealed.
Not to be outdone, Franklin Roosevelt (another Democrat and progressive) continued subverting the Constitution. He instituted all sorts of social agendas (Social Security), and programs that began the nanny state that we now presently have. To ensure his agenda, he loaded the Supreme Court with judges who shared his vision. Thankfully his Bill of Rights was not passed, but that’s about the only thing he didn’t get. (The good American people did nothing.)
Roosevelt was behind one of the most shameful historical events of the 20th century, the internment of the Japanese during World War II. Americans with Japanese ancestry, many of them natural born citizens, were ousted from their homes, leaving almost all of their possessions behind, and put in camps throughout the United States. There was no evidence that these people were working with the enemy; this terrible event was portrayed as “keeping us safe.” (The good American people did nothing.)
Years later, George Bush (a Republican and a progressive) passed the Patriot Act, attempting to “keep us safe.” Using a national tragedy, a law was passed that overstepped the bounds of the Constitution, and the good American people did nothing. Obama liked the Patriot Act so much that he kept it in place. And to keep us even safer, TSA now has the right to X-ray us and touch us in inappropriate ways. Since the Constitution doesn’t mean anything, we can ignore the Fourth Amendment as well. Still, the good American people did nothing.
Between the last two presidents, we have a legacy of debt that will cripple our children and grandchildren, even it does not completely collapse our economy, as many economists predict. Instead of being an exceptional country, we are now the world’s biggest debtor. Our future is jeopardized by our inability to meet our financial obligations.
It’s quite apparent to me that our liberty is under threat. In fact, liberty has been denied to certain American people when the will of the government declared it so. Does the loss of liberty have to come to each one of us as individuals before we can recognize the evil face of tyranny?
We must wake up, and demand that our elected leaders listen to us. As individuals we must get ourselves in a good economic place, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. We must stop being the good American people that did nothing.

In the letter “Disputing several claims,” the author wants us to believe “politically simplistic responses to complex issues” are inane. Friends, that’s exactly what an elitist attitude is all about. Our Constitution is not complex. The original intent of the Constitution is well thought out and based on common sense in order to protect our republic. Therefore, common sense must dictate the operation of our federal government. Doesn’t common sense tell you, for example, that you cannot responsibly place the country in debt to the tune of $14 trillion? Didn’t think so.
The author covered several topics erroneously.
First, only those with a financial interest in global warming and environmental issues push for more regulation. Their scare tactics are ludicrous, purposefully phrased for shock value and funding. Forget the fact that over-regulation has stymied the growth of and shut down businesses, or forced them out of the country. Power and greed are the motives behind these topics, not protection for the people or the planet.
Second, whether President Bush was right or wrong about the Iraq war doesn’t matter. The important issue is the terrorists. They threaten the stability of the East and our own interests. Bush did not attack the Twin Towers — terrorists did. We have terrorists and their leaders in the United States right now. They work through the Muslim Brotherhood, and although they are a seemingly benign nonpartisan group, they are a deadly, powerful, and a conniving force that we as citizens will have to deal with eventually.
Third, Sarah Palin stepped down as governor of Alaska for valid reasons. The media had raked her over the coals out of fear. She was demeaned and criticized beyond all truth and ended up with an insurmountable amount of debt. Fighting accusations and lies took her focus from her job. She had no choice. Palin is not some airhead to be dismissed lightly. At least she has a down-to-earth approach based on faith and common sense. I would prefer her as president over many of our past presidents.
Fourth, “Our future in the world’s pecking order is” not “dependent on the health of our children.” It is dependent on the education of our children. The Department of Education needs to be removed, the teachers’ unions need to be removed, and the states need to take over education. Money will not educate our children. It takes basics, parenting, disciplined schools, and good teachers. Everything the federal government touches it destroys.
Fifth, to answer the author’s question of “If women can fight side by side with men, why can’t homosexuals?” Women don’t need to be on the front lines. They are not as naturally strong as males. Lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) should never be allowed in the military. They are a minority group pushing a progressive lifestyle on society. Not only does it corrupt our culture, it places our military personnel in a very awkward position. After passage of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” Sen. Will bestiality and pedophilia be considered the next acceptable social fixes for a progressive society that believes anything and everything is OK? I’m sure that zoophiles and pedophiles are a minority who think that what they do is acceptable. Wake up America, our culture is at stake, not to mention our souls.
Sixth, with regard to death panels. It is a fact that the federal government cannot afford the cost of Obamacare even if it were constitutional. The unsustainable cost is a threat to our economy. Obamacare will lead to rationing of services just like the limits placed on patient care through Medicare. “No, you cannot have that particular test done. It is not covered under Medicare even though it would tell us exactly what is going on,” spoken to my husband last week.
Obamacare is very similar to the British health care system where end of life care is callously poor due to rationed health care. “The older and sicker people are, the less care they get,” according to a World Net Daily article, “Doctor’s Orders, Obamacare to be 1 big ‘death panel’ just as in U.K. – government system will lead to early demise of seniors,” available online at: http://www.wnd.com/?pageId107403. And your “politifacts” referred to in your article is not investigative journalism, but they do illustrate the media’s lack of credibility. It is the same media that leads unsuspecting Americans around by their noses.
Finally, truth will overcome propaganda in the end. The tea party revelers are a diverse group of Americans from all walks of life and professions. They are concerned citizens who are doing what needs to be done — participating in government. We have been complacent for too long. God bless them.

In the letter “Disputing several claims,” the author wants us to believe “politically simplistic responses to complex issues” are inane. Friends, that’s exactly what an elitist attitude is all about. Our Constitution is not complex. The original intent of the Constitution is well thought out and based on common sense in order to protect our republic. Therefore, common sense must dictate the operation of our federal government. Doesn’t common sense tell you, for example, that you cannot responsibly place the country in debt to the tune of $14 trillion? Didn’t think so.
The author covered several topics erroneously.
First, only those with a financial interest in global warming and environmental issues push for more regulation. Their scare tactics are ludicrous, purposefully phrased for shock value and funding. Forget the fact that over-regulation has stymied the growth of and shut down businesses, or forced them out of the country. Power and greed are the motives behind these topics, not protection for the people or the planet.
Second, whether President Bush was right or wrong about the Iraq war doesn’t matter. The important issue is the terrorists. They threaten the stability of the East and our own interests. Bush did not attack the Twin Towers — terrorists did. We have terrorists and their leaders in the United States right now. They work through the Muslim Brotherhood, and although they are a seemingly benign nonpartisan group, they are a deadly, powerful, and a conniving force that we as citizens will have to deal with eventually.
Third, Sarah Palin stepped down as governor of Alaska for valid reasons. The media had raked her over the coals out of fear. She was demeaned and criticized beyond all truth and ended up with an insurmountable amount of debt. Fighting accusations and lies took her focus from her job. She had no choice. Palin is not some airhead to be dismissed lightly. At least she has a down-to-earth approach based on faith and common sense. I would prefer her as president over many of our past presidents.
Fourth, “Our future in the world’s pecking order is” not “dependent on the health of our children.” It is dependent on the education of our children. The Department of Education needs to be removed, the teachers’ unions need to be removed, and the states need to take over education. Money will not educate our children. It takes basics, parenting, disciplined schools, and good teachers. Everything the federal government touches it destroys.
Fifth, to answer the author’s question of “If women can fight side by side with men, why can’t homosexuals?” Women don’t need to be on the front lines. They are not as naturally strong as males. Lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) should never be allowed in the military. They are a minority group pushing a progressive lifestyle on society. Not only does it corrupt our culture, it places our military personnel in a very awkward position. After passage of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” Sen. Although the United States is $13 trillion in debt, mandatory spending alone exceeds tax revenues, and the Congressional Budget Office is warning of a coming U.S. “fiscal crisis,” Congress felt no need to trim spending. The just-adjourned 111th Congress headed by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi added more to the national debt than the first 100 U.S. Congresses combined. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-OK, has published his collection of the 100 most wasteful projects his colleagues deemed worthy of your hard-earned tax dollars this year. Among the most offensive, ridiculous, and startling examples of pork in the Year of our Lord 2010, he found:
■Nearly $5,000 of stimulus money to hire goats to graze the weeds at Idaho’s Heyburn State Park;
■$6 billion for ethanol subsidies, which raise food costs;
■$177,000 for Ohio teachers to travel to China to learn about the Chinese “education” system;
■$137,530 for a Dartmouth professor to develop “Layoff,” a video game that encourages its players to fire as many people as quickly as possible;
■$700,000 for New Hampshire researchers to examine “greenhouse gas emission from organic dairies,” which are cause by “cow burps, among other things”;
■$442,340 to study male prostitutes in Vietnam;
■$823,000 to teach South African men how to wash their genitals after sex. (We reported this one earlier this year);
■$55,000 to celebrate HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. Of course, there is no anti-AIDS vaccine, but the “observance is a day to recognize and thank” the professionals “who are working together to find” a cure;
■$571 million — more than half-a-billion dollars — diverted from building roads and infrastructure to plant flowers on the roadsides;
■$2.9 million to study how players of the online game World of Warcraft collaborate;
■$5,000 for the Murfreesboro, Tennessee public library to host video game nights, featuring Rock Band, Wii Bowling, and Mario Kart;
■$609,160 to develop a video game based on the life of a wolf;
■$615,000 for the University of California-Santa Cruz to digitize Grateful Dead memorabilia;
■$10,000 for the Woodstock Film Festival, attended by such elites as Kevin Bacon, Tim Robbins, and Uma Thurman;
■$150,000 for signs alerting drivers of crossing salamanders in Monkton, Vermont;
■Nearly $1 million to post snippets of poetry at zoos;
■$175 million for unused buildings, including an octagonal monkey house in Dayton, Ohio;
■$239,100 to study how singles use online dating sites while they are lookin’ for love;
■$31,350 for a comic book mouse who teaches children the history of printing;
■$112 million in fraudulent tax refunds for prisoners;
■$1.5 million for a museum in Shelby, North Carolina, to honor bluegrass banjo picker Earl Scruggs;
■$60,000 to renovate a pizzeria in Waterloo, Iowa; and
■$212,735 to study the state of “civility” in U.S. politics in Pullman, Washington. Liberals rediscover the virtues of “civility” every time a conservative criticizes a Democratic president.

The midterms may have saved a superpower: Americans say no to US decline

Tonight’s emphatic conservative House victory in the US midterms is a powerful rejection of President Obama’s handling of the economy and his Big Government agenda, including his controversial healthcare reform plans. The conservative revolution has been largely spurred by disenchantment with the federal government, and a strong belief in limited government, lower taxation, and reduced public spending, as well as a desire to return to America’s Founding principles.
It is also a powerful rejection of American decline, currently being fueled by massive debts at home, weakened defences and a defeatist foreign policy. The federal debt has jumped from 40 percent of GDP in 2008 to 62 percent by the end of this year, the highest percentage since World War Two.
As I noted several weeks ago, when I wrote of the consequences of an unchecked presidency acting with impunity:
Under the Obama White House, economic decline, feckless borrowing and towering debts, which will rise dramatically further if hugely expensive health care reforms are implemented, are combined with a flawed foreign policy and national security strategy which is leaving America weaker on the world stage and more vulnerable to attack. From its decision to scrap Third Site missile defences in eastern and central Europe, to its failed policy of engagement with Iran and its timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Obama presidency is projecting dangerous weakness and compromise in the face of its enemies.
Ultimately, President Obama’s legacy to America will be the decline of a great superpower, weighed down by crushing debts and massive entitlement programs, and facing an emboldened set of adversaries, from Moscow to Tehran to Pyongyang. The damage inflicted by the Obama administration will ultimately be worse than the harm caused by the presidency of Jimmy Carter due to the scale of the long-term economic crisis now facing America.
The overwhelming repudiation of the Obama administration’s failing policies sends a clear message to the world that the American people will not accept the decline of the world’s most powerful nation. Now the hard part begins, and a very top priority for the new Congress must be reigning in the ballooning national debt, which the Congressional Budget Office predicts could rise to 87 percent of GDP by 2020, 109 percent by 2025, and 185 percent of GDP by 2035.
While the Conservative-led government in Great Britain has already embarked upon a $130 billion austerity cuts package, shedding nearly 500,000 public sector jobs, the US administration has defiantly remained with its head in the sand, while still talking in terms of further stimulus spending. That position is unsustainable. Dramatic spending cuts (with the exception of national defence) must also be coupled with a pro-growth agenda of lower taxes, private sector job creation, free trade and economic freedom.
After the immense damage of the last two years, the midterms have offered the United States an opportunity to reverse course and get back on its feet. The world needs a powerful, successful, dynamic and prosperous America, where individual liberty and freedom are the driving forces, rather than the overbearing deadweight of federal government. The American people have spoken, and the White House must be held to account.

The cost of entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security is racing ahead at the same time that the federal government is ladling out dollars to fight the recession. Meanwhile, we are contending with chronically high unemployment, insurmountable debt payments and a crushing tax burden that could kill U.S. competitiveness. Maybe, just maybe, those entitlements have to be redesigned, says Congressman Paul Ryan.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that federal debt will, by 2020, rise to nearly 100 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) -- compared with 62 percent today and 36 percent only three years ago -- if the Bush tax cuts are extended, the alternative minimum tax is indexed for inflation and current spending policies remain in place. According to the Social Security Board of Trustees, by 2037 the program's trust funds will be depleted, says Forbes.
To keep that from happening, Ryan proposes to freeze nondefense discretionary spending -- 15 percent of the budget -- for 10 years and move to means-tested programs to cover retirees and sick people.
Ryan's tax plan would eliminate itemized deductions and set rates at 10 percent for the first $50,000 of income on an individual return and 25 percent for income above that.
He would replace the corporate income tax with an 8.5 percent business consumption tax.
Other proposals by Ryan include:
Wiping out ObamaCare and replacing it with a voucher-based system in which adults get a $2,300 refundable tax credit to pay for health care.
Similarly, Medicare recipients under age 55 today would, on retirement, get vouchers to buy private insurance.
He would also raise the eligibility age for both Social Security and Medicare to 69 and 70, respectively, by the end of this century.

The US now owes more money than all of the money in the world combined.

I have argued that the real national debt is about $130 trillion. Let’s say I’m being pessimistic. Forbes, in a 2008 article, came up with a lower number: $70 trillion. Let’s say the sunny optimists at Forbes got it right and I got it wrong.
For perspective: At the time that 2008 article was written, the entire supply of money in the world (“broad money,” i.e., global M3, meaning cash, consumer-account deposits, checkable accounts, CDs, long-term deposits, travelers’ checks, money-market funds, the whole enchilada) was estimated to be just under $60 trillion. Which is to say: The optimistic view is that our outstanding obligations amount to more than all of the money in the world.
Global GDP in 2008? Also about $60 trillion. Meaning that the optimistic view is that our federal obligations outpace the entire annual economic output of human civilization.
So, John Boehner wants to roll spending back to where it was in the last year of the Bush administration. Okay, great. Nice start.

Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi tripled the national deficit last year by nearly a trillion dollars – something unheard of in our nation’s history.
After an unheard of record deficit last year of $1.4 Trillion the economy is on track to experience a $1.3 Trillion deficit this year.
Instead of focusing on the economy the past two years the radicals in Washington beat up on business and rammed through an unpopular nationalized health care entitlement program.

The US now owes more money than all of the money in the world combined.

I have argued that the real national debt is about $130 trillion. Let’s say I’m being pessimistic. Forbes, in a 2008 article, came up with a lower number: $70 trillion. Let’s say the sunny optimists at Forbes got it right and I got it wrong.
For perspective: At the time that 2008 article was written, the entire supply of money in the world (“broad money,” i.e., global M3, meaning cash, consumer-account deposits, checkable accounts, CDs, long-term deposits, travelers’ checks, money-market funds, the whole enchilada) was estimated to be just under $60 trillion. Which is to say: The optimistic view is that our outstanding obligations amount to more than all of the money in the world.
Global GDP in 2008? Also about $60 trillion. Meaning that the optimistic view is that our federal obligations outpace the entire annual economic output of human civilization.
So, John Boehner wants to roll spending back to where it was in the last year of the Bush administration. Okay, great. Nice start.
