Letter: Rely on Butterfield to serve Pelosi
Here in the 1st Congressional District of North Carolina, we can take comfort in knowing that, as a key player in Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's leadership team, U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield of Wilson is guaranteeing that we get our fair share of the consequences of Congressional ineptitude.
That is, our fair share of continuing unemployment, higher insurance premiums, unpredictable tax increases, staggering national debt, political stonewalling and double talk. Butterfield's quick rise to a position of power in Congress has left him beholden to whatever political position that Pelosi takes on any issue of substance. His reliable vote is one of the many she keeps stuffed in her back pocket as a means of keeping her stranglehold on any form of reasonable political compromise.
Our congressman's world seems to be confined to the city limits of Washington, D.C., the special interests that hold rein there and the purse strings of political donors. He doesn't represent the 1st Congressional District, he represents Pelosi. Given the unpopularity of goings on in the halls of Congress, he is no more inclined to hold a local town meeting than she.
We are all the worse off because of politicians such as Butterfield, who only serve to empower themselves and their fellows. The only way to get rid of the people who have led us to the brink of disaster, is to get rid of the people who help to keep them in power. Throwing Butterfield out of office would be a good start.
