The stimulus weatherization project--the one that was supposed to help millions of low-income homeowners across the country save money on their utility bills by spending thousands of government dollars to seal the cracks in their windows and doors--has been suspended in Delaware and is under close scrutiny in nearly a dozen states. In Joe Biden's home state, an auditor found that weather-proofing contractors were going above and beyond in their duties: Instead of just sealing windows and insulating attics, they were doing extreme home makeovers to the tune of many thousands and thousands of dollars more than expected! As a result, the program has been on hold for over a year, and "only 689 homes have been retrofitted while roughly 6,000 families are on the waiting list for help." Gee, how many jobs did that program create or save?

It's a shame what happened to the Delaware Weatherization Program. I hate to see funds wasted like that, especially when there are other families in line to receive services. I still believe in the end goal of Weatherization, which is to increase America's energy efficiency. Our buildings could be a lot more energy efficient, if only we can work out the kinks in programs like WAP. I thought this was an interesting article from CNN about energy efficiency jobs, but I couldn't find the study they were quoting:
