North Carolina--The Voter ID bill, H351

April 7, 2011

The Voter ID bill, H351, is one step closer to becoming reality....But, it is not yet finished. The bill was passed out of the Elections Committee and is now headed to Appropriations since there are some fiscal requirements.

As you can guess, the vote to give a favorable report to House Bill 351 went along party lines - 18 Republicans voted for the bill while 14 Democrats voted against. Democrats will continue to fight against Voter ID and the Governor has indicated that she may veto this legislation.

The bill will head to the floor after a vote out of Appropriations and we must continue to make phone calls to express our support of this much needed legislation. If we can turn a few Democrats, the Governor's veto will be useless as it can be overridden.

Those of you who live in Democrat districts, please call your representatives, and encourage them to stand with 84% of North Carolinians in support of Voter ID. Also call your Republican representatives and let them know how much we appreciate the hard work and dedication they have put into delivering what they promised.
