From Our Chairman, Rick Hopkins
January 21, 2013
While the issue of Gun Control is at this moment an extremely Hot topic, I would like to take this opportunity to speak on this issue. I as many others, feel that this subject should be a settled issue as our founders had already sufficiently addressed it in the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution as well as the framers of the Constitution of the great state of North Carolina in Article I section 30. In both of these historical documents, it is stated that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. The intent is further clarified by being preceded with this declaration, “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State,”. It did not state, imply or in any other way infer that this right was necessary to insure our food supply by protecting our right to hunt. It was short, sweet and to the point and should have been easily understood by the least educated of us to the most scholarly. It was conceived and authored by men of a noble and principled desire to insure our Liberty and protect our Freedom by clearly defining our God given rights in these founding documents.
In no way did they ever perceive that the day would come when the President of this great land would be quoted as saying “that depends on what the definition of is is” and that the electorate would accept such a ridiculous proclamation without demanding his immediate removal. These great men new that what they had built was fragile and would only survive if Godly and principled men were elected to our highest offices. This however is only possible as long as you have a Godly and principled electorate. In this day of technology where every word an action is recorded by video, photographs and electronic documents all being distributed worldwide in a matter of seconds and plainly documenting what is actually said and the lies that follow at another time in another venue, it is difficult to understand the actions of the people wielding the power of the vote in this past election.
In light of the current actions and attempts of some to redefine the meaning of “shall not be infringed”, or to totally ignore it and attempt to overrule it with the stroke of a pen wielding a power they do not hold, it is necessary that We The People rise in unity to defend and protect our rights given to us by God and reaffirm the Constitutions of our Country and our State by having our voices heard that we will not tolerate any attempts to tread on our rights as free men and will not accept even the slightest attempt at endangering our Liberty by unconstitutional means such as executive order or legislation that cannot pass the test of Constitutionality.
At the February 19th meeting of CCTA, we will address this issue in great detail. We have invited and he has accepted, the sheriff of Craven County as well as local police chiefs from New Bern and Trent Woods. We also have local gun shop owners and concealed carry instructors on the agenda as well. We invite members of our military and any law enforcement officials who wish to attend and join in this timely debate and discussion and will encourage you to publicly reaffirm your oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”. At that time we will also provide resources to inform attendees of current actions and efforts to protect and insure our Constitutional Rights. We will provide information on methods and means by which our voices united can and will be heard. We encourage all to attend and participate in the exercise of our 1st Amendment rights:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty."
- Adolf Hitler
