Here are some alarming facts on illegal immigration that James Johnson, of NC FIRE, shared. They are also listed in the video clip I've linked and which will make you fuming mad!
1). There are 23.5 million illegal immigrants in the United States. Just 607,000 are from countries other than Mexico.
2). 79.3% of immigrants who entered the country before 1980 became US citizens. Compare that to the percentage of immigrants who entered the country since 2000 - only 11.8%.
3). Money that illegals have wired back to Mexico since January 2006 - $34.7 billion. Money that illegals have wired to Latin America since 2001 - $293 billion.
4). The cost of social services for illegals since 1996 - $400 billion.
5). The number of children of illegal immigrants in public schools - 5.5 million
6). The cost of educating these children since 2006 (K-12) - $172.2 billion
7). The number of illegals that are incarcerated - 455,614. Multiply each by the cost of incarceration (approximately $30,000 - $40,000). The cost of incarceration for illegals, for just the past 2 years, is $28.6 billion.
8). The number of illegal fugitives in the United States - 779,488
9). According to a recent government accounting data report, approximately 90% of the criminal illegal aliens sentenced in federal court in 2009 were convicted of immigration and drug-related offenses. The average incarcerated illegal alien had 7 arrests and committed an average of 12
offenses. 25% had greater than or equal to 16 offenses. Only 9% had just one arrest.
10). The number of anchor babies born in the US since 2002 -- 5 million
11). 14 million Americans are out of work. 12.3 illegal immigrants currently have skilled jobs (meaning they are employed) !! Illegal immigrants are taking jobs away from American citizens. If we get rid of illegal immigrants, our unemployment situation is solved.
*** Illegal immigration is indeed a direct threat to America on many levels -- our safety, our security, and our economy.
As Kevin Lehmann said: "I have nothing against immigrants who want to come here legally to make a better life for themselves and their families. Hell, my father was a German immigrant. But he did it legally. He didn't look for security breeches in our border and try to usurp the system so he could leech off of hard-working Americans. He joined the Army and became a patriot. He became a hard-working productive citizen. He contributed to the country instead of burdening it."
