President Obama laid out three options for the size and scope of a deal he and congressional leaders could reach for cutting the deficit and raising the debt ceiling, but he made it clear that one option will meet his veto pen, according to a source familiar with the talks.
Meeting with a bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers at the White House Thursday morning, Obama said he would not sign a deal floated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other Republicans that would cut about $1 trillion in spending in exchange for a six or seven month extension of the debt ceiling.
