Normally I wouldn’t bother to challenge Barbara Harrison’s (officer of the local Democrat Party) letters but feel I must comment regarding her Oct. 10 SJ letter, “Conservative paranoia”. Her statement that President Obama cannot enact a complete ban on U.S. citizens’ gun ownership by signing a U.N. small arms treaty because it “ just isn’t possible under our Constitution” reflects her obvious ignorance of this administration’s documented successful end runs around the Constitution ever since taking office.
To wit: as just one example, shall we digress back to 2009 and one of our president’s earlier (of many to follow) violations of the Constitution, Article 1,section 6 which, in essence, states that one cannot be a member of Congress, vote a pay raise for the secretary of state and, before the term is over, be named to the same position.
Exactly the scenario under which Obama appointed Hillary Clinton as secretary of state and, therefore, should not have been allowed under the Constitution. Her appointment was an obvious violation.
Whenever his whim dictates, President Obama can and does “make things possible” by simply ignoring this bothersome document and misusing his Executive Order privilege.
