August 30, 2012, 5:30 pm: Outer Banks Tea Pary at La Gogata in Kitty Hawk.
Speaker: District 1 Commissioner Candidate Sandy Semans Ross. OBX Tea Party will be meeting for its regular Thursday meeting on August 30th at LaFogata in Kitty Hawk. We have invited all of the Commissioner and General Assembly candidates to speak to us over the next six weeks. Our first guest is District 1 candidate Sandy Semans Ross. Come prepared with your questions for Sandy. Sandy's website: http://writeinsandy.blogspot.com/.
District 1 covers mainland Dare and Roanoke Island however all Commissioners are elected to office in a county-wide vote.
Sandy is the former editor of The Outer Banks Sentinel. She is registered as an Unaffiliated voter. She qualified as a write-in candidate when she was unable to procure enough signatures to get her name on the ballot. She summed up her campaign this way to Outer Banks Voice. "Some have suggested that I wait until next election cycle and change my voter registration from unaffiliated to one of the parties but that doesn’t work for me. Party politics — particularly on the state and national level — has become almost solely about supporting a party and less about representing real people." "Electing anyone to office should be about representing We the People — a collection of diverse opinions, attitudes, needs and resources. The growing number of unaffiliated voters seems to indicate that there is a new and different sort of party in the making."
La Fogata is located at 3924 North Croatan Highway in Kitty Hawk.
OBX Tea Party is dedicated to restoring our nation to its founding principles: Fiscal Responsibility; Free Markets; and Constitutionally Limited Government. Join us each Thursday at 5:30 pm.
