Below, please find a message that was sent to the Craven County and Pamlico County Boards of Elections on behalf of the Craven-Pamlico Christian Coalition regarding a proposal to allow voting on Sundays. Yesterday, the Pamlico County BOE voted to ALLOW Sunday voting in that county!
The Craven County Board of Elections is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Wednesday, at 11:00am in the Commissioner’s meeting room upstairs at the County Administration Building.
It’s open to the public and you are encourage to attend.
On behalf of the Craven-Pamlico Christian Coalition, we offer these comments regarding a proposal to add Sunday as a day of voting in Craven County:
We are absolutely opposed to any effort to open the polls on Sunday! In addition to a full day on election day, registered voters have the opportunity to cast their ballot by absentee or early voting. Low turnout is not caused by lack of opportunity to vote! It’s caused by other factors that will in no way be helped by Sunday voting.
In addition, it would mean many poll workers would be taken away from their worship services and their families on this “day of rest”.
Add to that the extra expense for taxpayers, it only adds additional financial burden to families already stressed to the limit.
Sunday is the Lord’s Day. Let’s keep it that way.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment, and God bless,
Jerry Schill, Co-Chair
