Tax holiday could be last one - News-Record.com: Local News

GREENSBORO — Kim Berg relies on the sales tax holiday every year to buy fall clothes, shoes and school supplies for her four children.
She has extra expenses this year because her 18-year-old son is headed to college, and one of the items she plans to buy him is a computer.
“When you have four, every little bit helps,” Berg said. “We save quite a bit on that weekend, so I would hate to see it go away.”
But that’s what would happen if the governor signs tax reform legislation headed to his desk.
Getting rid of the tax holiday, where back-to-school items such as clothing, computers and classroom supplies are exempt from sales tax, is part of a tax reform bill legislators approved Wednesday.

Gov. Pat McCrory has said he will sign the legislation, which would eliminate the holiday as of July 1, 2014.
